    Just did this on my 1996 DC2 Momo steering wheel and honestly I’m shocked with how well it’s turned out, going through the different stages you could see the transformation. Cost £25 in the U.K. off eBay and it’s worth every penny of that!!

    Wow! how great to have a product that works!! Just did the steering wheel on my 2013 Mazda CX5 with 160,000 miles on it. Follow the instructions. Use the hair dryer to aid in speeding up. Do not wipe on the dye: that just smears it on. Dabbing worked perfectly. Thanks for great directions both printed and on the video!

    Just finished my second wheel. On my Range Rover this time. It’s looks nice but it’s rough. It’s smooth after the binder (sanded and cleaned after binder). Very light coats of the color and it looks nice as it builds but then it is just rough feeling.
    Edit: looks like wet sanding very lightly on the rough spots with the 1200 grit paper works well. Very lightly and wetting the paper first.

    Just did my wheel on a 2011 Mercedes E550. It went fairly smooth but I think you need to make sure the binder is really dry between coats and especially before the 1200 grit sanding. Use the hairdryer and give it about 20 minutes. The video doesn’t really tell us times so it seems like it’s all a fast process. I initially cleaned with 50/50 vinegar water and it did well. Everything else went smooth but I would give adequate time for the binder to dry and also wear gloves before using the color to save some hand-scrubbing.
    Definitely use a towel around the wheel so nothing accidentally gets on anything else. I also would use blue tape on the steering wheel trim to avoid having to clean the binder and colorant off.
    So far it looks pretty good. Not perfect bc of user error. But much much better than it was.
    Next up is the wheel on my Range Rover. I’ll do that tomorrow.

Next up, the wheel of my own Audi S6. There is enough product in the kit for use for more than one steeringwheel.

    I've just done this on my M5 and it worked really well. One thing I was concerned about was the coloured stitching on the wheel but it didn't prove to be a problem. I used detailing APC to clean the wheel making sure the stitching was especially clean. The leather in between the stitching was fine so I was just careful not to get the dye on that. It's a good match for the original colour (black is usually fairly easy to match) and it's not obvious which bits haven't been recoloured (which was just the bit where the stitching was).
    I had been going to mask off the stitching but I decided not to because I thought that might leave a more obvious line. I cut one of the sponge pads into quarters to enable me to be a bit more accurate with the application of the dye and it worked very well.
    My wheel was a bit discoloured but was generally in good condition. I used about a quarter of the degreaser and alcohol cleaner but probably only about 1/5 of the sealeant and dye. I might dig out a paintbrush and touch up a few tiny scratches there are in the leather elsewhere. All things considered, I think this was very good value.

I've applied a thin layer and because it's alcohol it evaporated very quickly so I saw it drying...To my surprise the steering wheel felt very sticky so I used a hairdryer to be sure it was dry. After 5 mins it still felt sticky so I thought that's how it should be. The next step was applying the leather binder and it made things even worse... Still convinced it was supposed to be like that I started sanding the steering wheel about 10-15mins later. Now My steering wheel is full of sanding dust which sticks in the leather binder. I've put my steering wheel aside to let it fully dry so I can sand it down again with the 1200 grid and hopefully apply the color afterwards...

    Hi, I have forgotten to use the Leather binder and I applied the dye straight after cleaning the steering wheel. Can I apply the Leather binder on top as a protective layer, or shall I not bother?

    • @FurnitureClinic
      @FurnitureClinic  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, the Leather Binder is designed to be applied before the colour. If the colour has already been applied, there won't be any benefit to applying the binder over this.

    How long it we’ll stay?

    • @FurnitureClinic
      @FurnitureClinic  Рік тому

      Once applied to leather the coating is as strong as new leather, this has been tested to British & European Standards. It is difficult to give an exact timescale as to how long it will last, but we are confident to say that it will last as long as your leather originally lasted.

    Hi! Was wondering why use sponge instead of paint brush to apply the paint? What are the differences both when applying the paint and in the final result?
    Thank you.

    • @FurnitureClinic
      @FurnitureClinic  2 роки тому +5

      Hi, a sponge allows you to get into the grain of the leather and prevents any streaks or brush strokes. It will give the best results in comparison to using a brush. I hope this helps.

  • @moo8698

    "long lasting" - interestingly, if you start rubbing it as a test to see how it will hold up.. You'll see the paint coming off quickly. The problem is that the people that tried these and the company that sells this never states it afterwards that it won't last. Color is one thing. The other thing is when you repair cracks. It really works for a few months because that filler keeps shrinking for some reason also/or as you use your seat the seat doesn't know that the crack is filled up. So it will keep stressing the same exact crack. The result is again, after a few months your crack is there just as before the repair. These are temporary fixes! It turns out it would have been cheaper to change the leather as a solution instead of doing "repairs" 2 or 3 times a year. Just a tip.

      This is for steering wheels. Not for cracked seat leather. That’s not what this product is for and wouldn’t work.
