Gatsby expected Daisy to wait 5 years, yet he had trouble waiting 2 minutes...I love this movie/book, the more you read it the more you discover. It is infinitely layered
Not because he’s full of himself. But because the stress. The intense ness is eating him up inside. You can see him jitter and studder. The rest of the movie he is so confident and well put. But in sight of her he just melts. And can’t handle the pressure. That’s why.
The real layer is Nick is an unreliable narrator, closeted, and in love with Gatsby. He was the most duplicitous character in the book, which was exactly why he kept insisting hw was the only honest person left in New York.
If you realise something that is so so sensitive here :O Gatsby was crying and now I remembered that quote "when it rains, no one can see you crying" and also that he's been through "wind, dust, storms and war"...
Thanks for the comments, I had not thought of it that way. I thought that Gatsby was so wound up that he needed to be in the rain to calm his nerves from meeting Daisy again
this scene is funny as hellllll. between daisy thinking her cousin is in love with her “did you ransack a green house.. oh he is in love with me” and gatsby behaving like a school boy and showing up at the front door like an idiot🤣🤣🤣 i dieddd
I dont understand how Daisy is said to be the most beutiful girl in their entire town earlier in the movie, while in my eyes she is solid 5/10 and somebody as wealthy as Gatsby could do better.
F C they KNOW they're related, it's in the book if you read it. "Daisy was my second cousin once removed, and I'd known Tom in College". It's also the reason why addresses Nick as "my dear"' a lot.
My god, the acting between Carey and Leo is amazing. Two people who loved each other seeing each other again. A man looking like a young boy, infatuated with a look of pure adoration on his face. Any girl would want to be looked at that way.
Before I used to think Gatsby's love for Daisy was completely genuine but.. Over time I began to see through the cracks of a fantasy relationship. Sure it started off as a cute little romantic story. But he only idolises her for just an unrealistic perfection to climb 🪜 the high social society. It was more of an idea of greatness rather than real relationship goals.🎆💍🎬💮
@@Bellarose36 it's interesting I actually wrote a thesis paper on this. Daisy loved Gatsby too, but he idealised her way too much. He idealised her to the point of him loosing her actually, not because she didn't love him, but because she realised that he wasn't in love with her, but the idea of her. But Nick as the unreliable narrator that he is of course doesn't catch that. Instead he thinks she doesn't go with Gatsby because she is after Tom's money
@@Bellarose36 Gatsby was a social climber and a snob. He was ashamed of his humble upbringing and thought marrying a blue-blood old-money girl like Daisy would legitimize him as not just a financial elite, but also a society and cultural elite. He didn't love Daisy. He was a narcissist in love with himself. Ever since he was a kid, he thought he was entitled to money and a well-bred arm candy trophy wife. He was willing to reach his goal by any means necessary, including illegal means. Everything was a means to an ends. Everyone was just a disposable stepping stone.
@@KoriStreamori Well, she is right? But... That's fine. People can marry for money - it's not a crime. Gatsby could have respected that and been her friend, forever. Instead, he pushed things to far and caused his own death.
Daisy is the villain in this movie. Gatsby took the blame because of daisy. He died at the end because of what daisy did. She did not even go to his funeral.
She was a horrible person, but she's not the villan. People were. Everyone in the story just wanted to take and take and take. The only person with any semblance of decency is Nick. In the end, he was Gatsby's only friend.
She is a flawed person, but she's not the villain. She never intended for Gatsby to die. If anyone is the villain, it's Tom, who told Wilson who Gatsby was while knowing that Wilson would probably kill him
I think the book did a better job portraying how flawed every character was. Gatsby is a shady man who wanted to be wealthy and have the American dream. Daisy was the American dream to him, and when he realized she was human and not a fantasy, he was confused as to why things weren’t exactly the way they were before.
killerbaits She was a product of the society she was in. I understand why she made her choice, it was for self-preservation. You understand her character more in the book. I wrote an essay on how tragic she was as a character for English. Though I do agree she was selfish.
"I'm certainly glad to see you as well" GOD the emotion Leo pours into one line,,,, it's a common phrase saying he should've gotten an Oscar for this movie but he should've gotten one just for the delivery of that line.
I think it's so cute how nervous and anxious Gadsby is about seeing Daisy again. Shows that although he's confident and secure around others and during business dealings, Daisy has him acting like a, well, man in love. Longing and desperately wanting/needing her approval.
It breaks my heart because Gatsby is obsessed with Daisy, but I don’t think Daisy truly loves him the same way. I always thought she loved the attention and things he could give her (lavish mansion/flower shops worth of flowers)
I had a similar experience exactly like this a few days ago itsbeen 5 years since ive seen this one special girl and I went to her door and when I got in everything slowed down like ive never experienced and it was such a wonderful reunion.
There's a man who loves me the way Gatsby loves Daisy. He doesn't see me as I am, but as a beautiful manifestation of everything he has ever wanted to hold. Their whole meeting emphasises the beauty and depth of Gatsby’s love, but also it’s destined failure. Gatsby has clearly imagined this moment a thousand times and planned it to perfection, filling the room with flowers, scourging the house clean, but when it comes down to it he freaks out because he is so terrified she will reject him. It’s awkward and painful at first, but they later clearly say what they need to say and reunite lovingly. But the flawed reality as opposed to his perfect dream is embedded in their relationship from the start. It’s always doomed to fail.

As unlikable as a character Daisy might be, I think it was rather polite of her to tell Nick the chauffeur's name, she didn't have to do that. Then again I'm always somebody that finds like tiny good things and characters like her so I might just be overlooking it.
I'm also having a similar case to Gatsby meeting Daisy after a long time, in my case, it's 9 years. For me, things didn't go like the video but I'm happy that I finally met her for the last time.
I don't think Gatsby was really in love with Daisy. I think Gatsby was in love with what Daisy represents. To have a woman like Daisy by his side represents wealth & status. Something Gatsby has aspire to gain since childhood. I think Gatsby failing to obtain Daisy all those years ago is what's really driving him to obsess over her. Remember when Gatsby was younger he managed to obtain wealth from a man he worked for only to have it snatched away. Causing Gatsby to start all over again to find a means of wealth. It's the same with Daisy.
I don’t think so. The only reason Gatsby ever cared about wealth and fame is because he thought that’s what he needed in order to have Daisy. It was always about Daisy. It may still not be love though… more like infatuation and obsession.
Nobody gets her sense of humor. I used to ask thus guy I was just friends with if he was stalking me and girls would roll their eyes. One girl got it 😅🤣🤷🏻♀️
