AstroSurface and My Jupiter Data...

  • Today's video is all about AstroSurface and my Jupiter data from last season. I have been looking for a RegiStax replacement for a while now and I think AstroSurface may be that replacement I've been longing for. Watch as I show 2 ways to bring in that data and then use the tools in AstroSurface to process the data. At the end of the video, I'll show a comparison between RegiStax and AstroSurface features that I would use. So far I have found AstroSurface can do as well or better with my Jupiter data.
Thanks for watching and here's a link to the AstroSurface download.

The planets are gone for me until at least July. When they make their appearence again. I'll do more. I also want to try some Deep Sky to see how it does... My season is just about here and with spring right around the corner. Galaxy's will be my first target to start my new season off with. Thanks for watching... ;-)

Jeff -- thanks for excellent tutorial. I caught some Saturn video last night which looked good at f/20. Have never processed a quality planet image, and will try Astrosurface.
Can you recommend good tutorials on prepping data in PIPP and Astrostakkert3 so I get all the ducks in a row? All the Best! Dave [PS: have your NINA vol 2 vid queued up ]

What telescope did you use for Jupiter/ powermates? Very impressive!

Bill These were shot with my C14 at f/11.4. In stacking I drizzled the data to get a little bigger frame. The planets are very low for me and a Barlow doesn't work that well as I'm looking through so much atmosphere. By using the native focal length of the C14. I can get much better looking data and if it's real good. A drizzle helps in processing. Hope this helps...

    Amazing tutorial Jeff.
U got really good data off ur Jupiter video. Can u pls tell me how to get this data, i have a 6 inch reflector and nikon D5600 dslr, with dslr i have to use eyepiece adaptor to get a very faint band visibility with barlow jupiter is just a bright white thing. With dslr alone i cant get the focus probably due to the limit in travel of focusser.
Is it possible to get a better raw data like urself with the rig i got, i would be so glad if u could pls help me with this

Thanks, If you can't get focus. There isn't much you can do as it stands now. Are you racked all the way in or out? I assume it's out... you are going to need spacer(s) to help you achive focus... If you need to add spacing. To find out how much. With the camera in video mode. Slowly move the camera away from the scope as you watch the monitor. When it looks like the planet is coming into focus. Look at where the camera is and that is the amount of spacer you are going to need. Hope this helps...

@@jeffrh Thanks for the quick revert, actually the problem is inward travel limit, things start coming into focus with secondary mirror but the limit for further inward travel gets reached. But i am achieving the focal point with the help of adaptor and eye piece of 25mm and 10mm but the clarity of capturing the video like urs isn't there. Am i doing it wrong? Or it is the limit of my reflector. Btw it is explore Scientific 150/700.
I am a newbie to all this btw, started just 15 days back. Had a thing about space since i was very young but got the courage to buy the telescope now

@@vikramsinghchauhan9083 That is unfortantly a much harder fix. If you had a dob. Shortening the struts would let you get focus. Not sure how that can be done with a newt... What you are doing with eye piece projection sound like your best option. Not sure if a larger number for the eye piece would help you get better results. That much power will be hard to get things right if you don't practice it and using a largernumber will be less power and help you get a feel for doing it. Then you can drop in those smaller numbered eye pieces. Hope this helps...
