Calvin’s eye removal and recovery (dog double enucleation)

When Calvin’s glaucoma got too painful the vet advised removing both eyes (double enucleation) to permanently remove the pain. I was devastated but it ended up being harder on me than it was on him. Calvin is now six weeks post-op and doing wonderfully. He was already mostly blind due to cataracts prior to the eye removal so it’s been a pretty easy transition for him. He’s been able to map out the house quickly and navigates well.
Along with no eyes Calvin also has no teeth so that’s why his tongue hangs out most of the time. But even with no eyes and no teeth he’s still a happy little dachshund!
