this might be my favorite movie of all time, if not very close. It's genuinely scary and heartbreaking, but also beautiful in other ways. It's the only movie to ever make me feel so many different emotions all at the same time in a great way. Theres a tension that continues to grow and grow the entire movie, and it sticks in my mind after i watch it for a long time every time. Also that cliff scene, CRAZY

The old man who jumps to his death was a very famous model in the 1970's. There's a documentary out about him called The Most Beautiful Boy in the World

If you look in the trees behind everyone as they carry Dani on the platform while she’s standing after being named May Queen, her sister face with the gas mask is hidden in the trees. It’s huge. You’d never notice it if you didn’t know.

It shows more of Christian & Dani’s relationship, and makes him even more unlikeable!😂 I think Dani’s smile at the end represented her acceptance into this new family- she was all in at that point. At 21:38 - "Does this happen in the real world?" Well... Part of the traditions are general Scandinavian traditions (with the May Pole and dancing to celebrate Midsummer). Part of the traditions are Viking pagan traditions. Part of the traditions are Norse pagan traditions. Part of the traditions are made up from whole cloth by Ari Aster, but the aesthetic is made to make this look hundreds of years old. So... "Does this happen in the real world?" Short answer: some yes, some no.
ari aster is so good at putting those guttural, soul wrenching sobs into the movies and making them work. in hereditary, it was the loss of charlie, then the loss of dani's whole immediate family triggered it. i love just how disconnected everyone is from dani, she's so vulnerable and needs so much help and no one is giving it to her, it's really no wonder she gets pulled into the cult immediately. his friend knew what an attestupa was, and didn't warn dani when her sister just committed suicide. christian is the worst at comforting and connecting with her when she's at her lowest, and he's supposed to be her boyfriend, who should care the most! he just leaves her hanging for all of it! even if i know she's stuck there with the harga now, she's obviously just lost her mind, but she's not feeling that weight and intense grief. she's truly free. in real life, it would be horrific, but in the setting of a movie, i feel both happy and worried for her. i know they don't really care, or i assume they don't, but at least someone is mirroring her emotions! i know it's a cult tactic, but god, i just want her to be happy and have someone understand her. i'm so conflicted about this movie, but i also love it. note: they're not grossed out by the broken leg at the attestupa, they're mirroring his cries, to feel the pain and share it with the cult. they do the same thing during christian's, uh, mating scene, and dani's screaming scene, and again at the end. the jingle bell hat is because he's been made into the jester, the fool, and he's been skinned. earlier in the movie, the harga kids are playing a game called "skin the fool."

you know, something i've noticed not talked about a lot in these reactions is the fact that dani is perpetually high as a fucking KITE the entire time she's with the Harga. from the moment she sets foot on their land, someone is shoving a powerful psychedelic into her and christian's hands every ten hours or so. it's why christian went along with the mating ritual: he was fucked up beyond belief. it's why the background shifts and moves, and why dani sees her parents. it's so much harder to think rationally about the danger you're in when you're high off your ass on mushrooms.
yeah she's high as hell in a strange environment after a traumatic event. like you said that's gonna impede your judgment *and yet* in the director's cut - well into their stay after christian decides on his thesis (and most importantly after they've seen them jump off the cliffs) - she says they need to leave and he just does some more gaslighting

Its kinda difficult to care for any of them.
omitting crucial scenes and then offering the "UNCUT" version on patreon is kinda shady. the video showed alot of graphic detail, but in other parts it just skipped entire parts that were alluded to before. not really my thing, but i tried ;-)
I’m assuming you have absolutely zero idea as to how UA-cam works… I LEGALLY cannot post the full movie (or much of the movie at all) on UA-cam because it’s copyrighted work. That’s why the UA-cam edit has to be cut substantially. Nothing “shady” about literally following the law lmao. This is a reaction video. You’re supposed to watch it for my reaction not for the movie. I only include scenes where I have a vivid reaction to.
@@mjj1017 I apologize if it came across as condescending, but I feel like this just had to be said... Don't call something "shady" if you aren't properly informed on it. It's completely fine to not know everything, but that's why we don't assume things.
@@MovieFusion well, thanks and i agree, but the thing i was specifically referring to was simon's death. you can see that he is suspended over the plants, christian enters and then the beginning of the reveal and i was wondering why include that at all, if you won't show christian's or your own reaction to that. yes, fair use laws are complicated, where probably global copyright laws would come into play also, but i think you can "get away" with showing alot more with the guide of fair use.
@@mjj1017 I won't include something if it don't have a distinct reaction to it. I knew it was Simon but I wasn't like "OH MY GOD SIMON!!!", so I didn't feel the need to include it. I included the part where I did have a reaction to the scene. As is, my videos constantly get blocked and copyright claimed so no, I cannot really get away with a lot more without costing me hours upon hours of extra editing that I do not have the time for lol. 20 or so minutes of the movie is certainly enough for the UA-cam reaction.
as if after the first people jumped the normal people wouldn't just pack up and get out of there. and call the police. you're better off watching the original Wicker Man.

The boyfriend was dragged every single time he wanted to breakup with her (he was not a good character, but you could understand that he was with her for pitty, and not having any chance to leave) the friends are assholes and knew the situation. Its kinda difficult to care for any of them.
i might be in the minority but i don't like this movie at all. it's beautiful but the story is just not my thing.
omitting crucial scenes and then offering the "UNCUT" version on patreon is kinda shady. the video showed alot of graphic detail, but in other parts it just skipped entire parts that were alluded to before. not really my thing, but i tried ;-)
I’m assuming you have absolutely zero idea as to how UA-cam works…
I LEGALLY cannot post the full movie (or much of the movie at all) on UA-cam because it’s copyrighted work. That’s why the UA-cam edit has to be cut substantially.
Nothing “shady” about literally following the law lmao. This is a reaction video. You’re supposed to watch it for my reaction not for the movie. I only include scenes where I have a vivid reaction to.
@@MovieFusion lol, yeah, thanks for the condecension. subbed!!
20 or so minutes of the movie is certainly enough for the UA-cam reaction.
its not real movie its just antropologists porno
as if after the first people jumped the normal people wouldn't just pack up and get out of there. and call the police. you're better off watching the original Wicker Man.
sort of how religion works my guy
that's kinda the way a cult works
@@tink6225 paganism was never a cult.
@@iainsteele5737 I'm sure they're were and are pagan cults.
@@tophers3756 of course, but the stuff in this film is fairly standard stuff in lithuanian paganism
man you're so good to look at
