You could also notch and triangulate. While the sam can see you easier at 40,000' at 50 miles you still have a TON of energy advantage. So you notch, find range by how long it takes to require 10 degrees of heading change to keep it abeam. When you know you're in range, turn in and fire, continue the turn to notch cold. The sam is going to waste all it's energy just getting up to you and Ideally the HARM should destroy the track radar before it gets to you because it's accelerating down while the sam is decelerating up to you, and your already doing better than Mach 1 away from it.
Love your videos! I feel like I'm 007 being briefed by Q when you show button presses on the DDI's, and even pause and say "Right!" on occasion. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the videos. They are all well done and I learn a lot about DCS from them. For example, this video is the first one I’ve seen to show how to actually activate the EW. At the 2.52 mark.
I don't know about this, one huge reason to use a missile like HARM is to suppress / destroy long range air defences without exposing yourself to low-altitude IR SAMs. 15k feet AGL is kinda the safe minimum to fly at over enemy territory and I think your latest tactical PvP illustrated that pretty effectively. The only other reasonable option is to go all the way down to the deck, keep your eyes open and hope for the best but you can't really do much down there. Even though SAM range increases with altitude your vertical angle to the launcher increases too which does improve your missile range relative to them. With longer distance comes longer reaction time as well and I'm yet to find an AI operated radar SAM that can't be defeated at high altitude (30k+) by relatively simple maneuvers on mil power alone and losing maybe only 10k feet in the process. If you're feeling adventurous you can crank into the SAM which reduces their launch range but makes the incoming missile a little bit more dangerous at the same time.
Well...I always seem to have a problem getting selector switch to light up the next SAM. It's hard to see if you have the right one lit up with the box around it if you know what I mean. And....um..... well............um......sometimes the missiles attack the Stennis off the coast where I just left it.
The Wild Weasel pilots in Vietnam had their eyes, an RWR, rocket pods and huge balls. Imagine the size of those balls. How did they even fit in the cockpit? Guess that’s why they had to switch to the F-105.
Wow 4 years later and this tutorial really helped me a lot, but what i don’t understand is when you switch to A/G your DDI won’t change, everytime i change modes it gives me the presets wich is very annoying.
I guess I’m all little confused on how this is any different than TOO mode other than the selection of the target is from the RWR. That’s pretty much it…right?
the launching technique is practically the same, the difference is in how the aircraft manages threats. while in TOO you get to choose on your own timing and requirements, SP stands to protect. it practically overrides the Master-mode to automatically select the HARM and arm it in Hand-off mode (H-OFF symbology over the boxed target in the RWR, HUD and HARM view screen). why would you want this? to respond *immediately* to a lock on you from ground targets by launching the HARM and eliminate them
The friendly troops in close proximity at the receiving end understand it very well. XD I suppose it's better to "regret letting that easy target go free" than "wishing you hadn't blown up all those buddies" afterwards....

Affirm thx
i love the fact your vids dont faff about, its just in, info, out, as quick as ya like it haha

Love it, such an amazing plane. Been studying the aircraft by using your videos and Wag's videos.
Enjoy :)

That classic iron hand tactic used in Vietnam by a6 crews

I've waiting for the HARM to come out so I could watch you guys use it.
the tutorial for sp harm was so freaking confusing
agree
Awesome. Thanks Cap

Great vid as usual !

V. Intersting, Cap. An example of K.I.S.S.!!!!!!!! Best, Pete.
I got a question, what will be the F-16 HTS equivalent in hornet systems?
Lockheed is developing the new AAGMR HARM ER with much greater range, sleeker body and goes faster.
SmithN' Wesson Hammer nice
Yup pretty much it. Just fire and split S out. Nice vid.
thx

Great vid!
Was the enemy SAM still trying to track you after you launched your HARM?
yes hence it not being able to shoot the harm down
Grim Reapers got it, thanks

Yup that helped! I just used it to kill a SAM with.
I like it, I like it alot...
I don't understand the point of the system not allowing you to fire a weapon that you need to fire.
The friendly troops in close proximity at the receiving end understand it very well. XD

Can’t wait until my F-16c gets HARMs
Is this still valid? as neither of my missiles hit when I tried this
Are you in range?
I'm unable to get SAM appear on the display above the right DDI. Any ideas?
strange. Done a DCS repair?
simple!
