Flynn's ultimate portrayal! He was never as commanding & endearing as he was in this role. There will NEVER be another Robin Hood as wonderful as Errol Flynn. NAILED IT!
@@LBF522 as a kid but probably still, i always though of errol flynn as being like the later harrison ford indiana jone s and han solo. in a strange way. i know they are alot different and the characters and movies were alot different , but alot of the iconic line and scnees of errol flynn especially as robin hood swinging onto rock making greetings to sherwood, seem to be as iconic as han and greddo(preferably before lucas ruined it) or other han solo and indiana snce and quotes.
Agree. Here he is at barely 30 years old-- full of life with a gleam in his eye. A man in his prime. 20 years later he would be dead of a heart attack...a wreck of a man, only 50 years old. The Hollywood life of booze and drugs got him.
Errol Flynn was the best swashbuckler Hollywood ever had. None before or since has had such a blend of charisma, looks, or screen presence as Flynn did.
Yep, another good movie. I don't think there's a Flynn movie I've missed. Both grandmas, my mom& my aunts were "in love" with him, even dad used to watch them. I'm in my 60's now&grew up watching the oldies. I could name most (if not every) movie he was in.
I have a belt worn in this scene. It was worn by one of the musicians playing during the feast at Nottingham castle, as the scene opens, with the camera panning past the musician. The belt is clearly visible. Light blue, with gold braid. Very rare...
An elegant and masterful scene. Dramatically and skillfully staged and maybe even well written. Directed beautifully and brilliantly acted: Claude Raines, Basil Rathbone, others and of course; the incomparable Errol Flynn. Hollywood at it's former glory best. Lol! Terrifying torture for anyone with that much courage: The rack, drawing & quartering, disemboweling to putting somebody in a tight black hole in the bottom of a castle and forgetting about him . . Awww, screw it. What the Hell.
Current politics aside. It's a powerful scene. Love the closing camera on Flynn as he announces his "all means in his power to fight". True evil in the form of fascism had descended across the Atlantic & in the Far East. It's rumblings were becoming more audible.
I love this scene. This scene reminds me of the Bible where Elijah confronts King Ahab and warns him what is going to happen if he continues his wicked ways. In Robin Hood's case, he is simply warning Prince John if he continue his wicked ways, then Robin Hood warns him he will retaliate in the name the of people. Kinda almost makes Robin Hood a religious figure in a way.

It's sad that when you mention Robin Hood to young people today, they think Kevin Costner. Errol Flynn is the one and ONLY Robin Hood.

@@benjaminlumley9189 And that is because, unlike some (koff-koff) other Robin Hoods, he (Elwes) can speak with an English accent.

Yes he did a lot of movies in his career but his portrayal as Robin Hood is how he is most remembered.
The only one that's come close is Michael Praed in the 1980's TV version Robin of Sherwood, an all round excellent cast in that show.
Agreed

Awesome. I am glad there are people who love this movie. They were the glory days of film.
…Errol Flynn. No other actor comes close to playing this type of role.
It blows my mind that "Robin" has been dead for 60 years, and "Marion" is still alive.
Indeed!
Makes me so emtional 😭
Errol Flynn could have lived longer, but he was a hard drinking chainsmoker. Really did a lot of damage to his body.

I love how Flynn can just barely be bothered to do an English accent over his Australian drawl
I thought it was an American accent, I didn't realize he was Australian. A few minutes into the movie though I really didn't notice.

It should be noted that Hollywood, and this film also, where staunchly isolationist. Robin's converse with Richard incognito was telling.
