@@FashionableObserver oh yes I remember. Since showing up Michonne has always being there for Rick. He saves and cares for so many but Michonne is the only one who can save Rick. I love their bond. It is so powerful in such a messed up world.
This definitely takes place after Rosita died. Gabriel wouldn't do her dirty like that. For me, this episode showed how Ann/Jadis is different from Rick. He had his soulmate to fight for and save him, Jadis gave up on love and went all in on the CRM plan. She could have been making art!!
Jadis has sucked since season 7. Kidnapping, backstabbing, liar is who she always was. She saved Rick for her. He punched her ticket into the CRM. Rick was too kind, I'd have let her turn.
Gabe & Anne meeting timeline: - 3 years ago: about 5 and half years after the bridge. Rick would’ve cut off his hand already. Judith wouldn’t have brought Connie and gang to Alexandria yet and Gabe was already dating Rosita. - 2 years ago: whisperer war ended and the Commonwealth has not shown up to Alexandria’s gates yet. Michonne left to find Rick. Gabe and Rosita should’ve still been together, but the relationship was rocky. - 1 year ago: Ezekiel is now governor of the Commonwealth, Rosita passed away and Gabe lives at Alexandria raising Coco.
ITA! The proposal is romantic and traditional to solidify their union onscreen. However, Rick and Michonne have been married for eight years as referenced by you❤❤❤😊.
Rip Jadis. Polyanna McIntosh did a great job playing that character and bringing her to life. Also really cool seeing father Gabriel again. So from what I know from timeline wise: when we see Gabriel and Jadis kissing that was after Rosita died. So they didn’t get back together until after the finale of the main show. Hope that helps Katie thanks for the chat video.
I'm right with you, the moment they held hands on that couch, Rick and Michonne have been married! Rick referring to her as his wife for the past nearly 8 or so years he's been gone lets us know he feels the same. It was nice to see them verbally commit to each other on screen though.
I liked the episode a lot. It did feel like an older TWD ep. Especially, the "honeymoon" episode: "SAY YES".. Jadis' death was handled beautifully. Gabe slowly brought "Anne" out of Jadis. She was slowly shedding her CRM skin, as it were.. Manifested visually as Jadis' clothing slowly got lighter/brighter thru each yearly meeting. Plus, the long black duster was a great gimmick that kept the audience guessing: "Is this Gabe or Jadis?.."
I really enjoyed this episode, and it was a fitting send-off for Jadis/Anne, played so brilliantly by Pollyanna Macintosh. It really was all about her, and her inner conflict, and her inability to resolve it. Having close-ups of Gabriel's face bookend the episode was really quite perfect. The conversations between Gabe and Anne (because that's who she was with him), are a counterpoint to the action in the present. I don't think Gabe was "cheating" on Rosita. Their first encounter in the woods was 3 years before the action of the episode, so that would place it before Gabriel and Rosita got together. If my memory is correct, Rosita and Gabriel got together shortly after her fling with Siddiq ended, about 2 years before the end of TWD. Gabriel and Anne's second meeting was right after the Whisperer War ended, and their last was around the time TWD ended, so after Rosita had died (and they had broken up about the time they moved to the Commonwealth). So during their last time together, when Gabriel and Anne kissed, Rosita had been dead about a year, and Gabriel had had time to mourn her. At the end of the episode, when Gabriel has realized Anne won't return, he looks so bereft, it's quite heartbreaking. When I first watched the episode, I remember thinking that the song used over Rick and Michonne's road trip/second honeymoon didn't quite suit them. The song is "The Good Life" (the Frank Sinatra version, I think). The singer is telling their lover that what may seem "the good life...seems to be the ideal," in which they must "hide all the sadness you feel," and can't "really fall in love, 'cause you can't take the chance." The singer further warns their erstwhile lover that though they may think they want "to be free and explore the unknown," it will lead to "heartache when you learn you must face them alone." However, in the last lines the singer reassures their beloved to "remember I still want you" whenever she decides to "kiss that (false) good life good-bye." By the end of the episode I realized that the song is from Gabriel's perspective, and encapsulates his feelings for Anne. 😢 Anne has been living what she wants to believe is "the good life," in a safe, powerful community that has a plan to re-make the world. Anne wants to believe in their mission, and she takes on the persona of Jadis in order to fit into this world. However, as she moves up the ladder in the CRM, she participates in deeds that make her escapades in the war with the Saviors look mild. She meets with Gabriel and tries to recapture the bits of herself that she buries and hides from the CRM. She's an "ambitious survivor" as Huck characterizes her, increasingly torn between the world of Jadis and the world of Anne. In many ways Anne is a tragic figure, motivated by fear. She laments that she has lost every community that she has had, but in truth she has thrown her communities, and the people in them, away with both hands. She lost her original people in "the Heaps" trying to play both sides in the war with the Saviors, she actively participates in the destruction of other communities or groups that the CRM believes to be a threat, she kills Huck, a friend and confidant, and arranges for Huck's mom to be imprisoned. She saves Rick from certain death after the explosion at the bridge, but thereafter becomes complicit in his coercion into the CRM, keeping him from Michonne and their children. As Anne dies she has her epiphany, that only her life as an artist was about "truth." She gives Rick the ring that Gabriel had found, and gifted to her, and with it her assent to the destruction of the CRM, and it's hollow, Pyrrhic promise of "the good life."
You made some excellent points! I actually loved this episode as much, if not a little more, than last weeks because it was a perfect counterpoint. It had humor, pathos and romance and when Rick says to those idiots in the forest "Why don't you just LISTEN" I screamed because OG Rick Grimes was back baby, lol!! Then when Michonne takes back the noodles... perfection. And although I've never been a Jadis fan, I was sad to see her go - that's a testament to the performance of the actress who made me care about a character that did some evil things in her time. Finally, the proposal was everything and I loved your description of it. I think the reason we all thought they were married is because they considered themselves married.

those were the perfect words for Rick to say, but i think they could of got a better looking ring, i also like how they buried jadis/Anne as who she wanted to be with the A on the stone at her grave
Pollyanna did an amazing job. I wanted Jadis to die but I’m going to miss Pollyanna. I could watch a hundred episodes of Richonne. I loved the toothpaste callback. I definitely wanted to know when they started to develop romantic feelings. I wish we’d get a similar confession from Michonne.
After episode one, this was my second favorite. I loooooved seeing Gabriel. It felt like the original show. I think Gabriel and Rosita were broken up by the time he was meeting Jadis. I feel like they didn’t last long after Siddiq’s funeral. Pollyanna was fabulous!

People watching The Ones Who Live, who haven’t seen TWD, is like people watching Better Call Saul, who never watched Breaking Bad…but if it brings new fans in, then it helps to keep more episodes coming! Jadis losing her garbage dump community, literally having to put down all of her friends, was very similar to Rick’s ‘mental break’ moments when he lost Laurie and when Carl lost his eye, but it led to different paths for two very different characters…although without Michonne (and Carl) Rick was almost fully brainwashed by the CRM.
I have been surprised how many people either didn't watch TWD or stopped during Season 2 who are watching TOWL. I love that Michonne knelt as well. There is something symbolic about that. I think there will be a s2, given the reception. Perhaps wishful thinking. 💗 Ep4 was the best. 4,1,2,3,5 for me. Can't wait for 6.
Unrelated: Your shirt reminded me of that animated video about tea and consent. Have you ever seen it?? Hilarious and awesome-highly recommend! My daughter and I still bring it up and laugh over it.😂
This episode was definitely a throwback to the feel of the old days . I really enjoyed it , I was a little skeptical after episode 3 I will admit but after Michonne un-brainwashed Rick ,I get why it’s important for Rick to stay and finish the plan to disable the CRM . I just hope they don’t get stuck to long in this storyline , like they did with the Negan storyline . I think that was detrimental to the show and caused a lot of people to stop watching. I hope we can see Rick and Michonne make it back to Alexandria . Before this series ends !!
Hopefully Michonne doesn’t die I’ve been hearing theories that she might die and that just breaks me because the show is about them together and how unstoppable they are.
I think the first visit (3 years) is during the Whisperer War bc he says the walls are down bc of another group. He and Ro were together at that point. He doesn’t say that Michonne went looking for Rick when Jadis asks about Rick’s wife so this must be after alexandria was trashed by the horde but before Michonne left. The second visit, when he asks for food, I think it is just before they all go to Commonwealth. I don’t think Gabe and Ro were together anymore bc remember, at Commonwealth, they have an exchange that implies that they are co-parenting Coco. The third visit, when Jadis doesn’t show up, is after everything and Rosita is dead. So Gabe didn’t do her dirty. (Please note I’ve only watched seasons 8-11, and each episode of TOWL once, so this is going off of my memory 😬)
I wonder if the last episode will see Alexandria being attacked but the only people there are a contingent of Commonwealth troops posted there. Maybe Judith, RJ etc are all living at the Commonwealth now (would make sense).
This definitely took place after Rosita passed. Also, anyone else half expecting Rick and Michonne to run into Althea and her GF out in the woods somewhere?? Unless I am mistaken, weren't they headed to a cabin in the woods that her GF had?? That would be so cool since her GF (I cannot remember her name, maybe Isabella?) was a part of the CRM she may be able to help Rick and Michonne...doubt it'll happen, but it would be cool ❤️
I enjoyed the episode. Episode 4 is still my favorite, but I felt like it was appropriate end to the character. I was also glad to see Gabriel back in the show. As a fan of the original show, particularly the Rick and Michonne characters, I decided not to watch streamers reviews, with the exception of yours, for The Ones Who Live. I did the same with Darly Dixon and I’ll likely do the same with the Book of Carol or any other spinoffs. Simply put, I don’t care what others have to say about the show. I just want to enjoy it and come to my own opinion. You are the exception as your content is uplifting, funny and entertaining. Thank you for your content.
I was glad to see her go but Pollyanna made it less enjoyable at the end and made her character more human lol dang it. I sorta felt bad for her a bit. Great acting! Great show! Great vid! ❤
Nah the first couple meetings were during the whisperer story which is when Rosita was with Siddiq (Coco's father!), people have terrible memories smfh, the meeting where she pulled the gun was the only one after rosita died.
Rick wanted to take down CRM by forgetting about his family, staying and slowly take them down, one day. Michonne from day one wanted to take them out immediately, since Rick was a prisoner there. She wants to go home, but she feels if they have to go back for the dossier, they might as well see what the CRM's big plan is and then take them out.
Very good point Katie. Both sides had valid reasons.Rick as well as Michonne I would say up until the their helicopter broke. Then at that point Michonne became 1000% correct in her view of the situation. There was no need for him to stay.and no danger in him leaving. So Jadis has files on them. They already knew where he lived.Jadis wasn't the one flying the helicopter that picked Rick up.He didn't steal money from the CRM.He didn't kill one of their leaders with Jadis being the only one who knew. All her files on them would say is that they were in love possibly.Plus, would the CRM risk their own soldiers just to go bring back a man just so he can stab walkers wit a pitchfork thru iron bars?I dunno. If Rick stayed to help the CRM what would he change? He doesn't have the authority to make changes to their community. It's not like he has "The Miracle Cure" in his blood like Ellie in TLOU.Anyway, those are my thoughts.I'm siding wit Michonne. So let's see how the finale plays out?
Love your content Katie, and I've always noticed that you're a big TWD fan and I'm sure you would support the idea of more seasons for The Ones Who Live, but in my personal opinion, despite being a fan of this universe since day 1 and being completely in-line with every single show, I think it's splitting into way too many spin-offs. The Walking Dead has Fear that continues Morgan, Sherry and Dwight's stories, it has Dead City, Daryl Dixon and Ones Who Live that continues the stories of other major characters, and it has World Beyond which features the CRM and Jadis which are also somewhat connected to the main show. I think it's becoming too chaotic and confusing, especially for new viewers. I think the universe is amazing, but I am starting to wish that it ends sooner rather than later because it feels like it's becoming more of a cash grab milking rather than a passion project. I love this universe and I want it to be good, not for the characters to be destroyed by bad writing or bad decisions. The Ones Who Live is a brillaint show, I don't want it to become a multi-season disaster.
Oh yeah Katie. On a side note:I was talking with my roommate the other day about TWD Universe inspired by your reactions and,she said the reason she stopped watching wasn't because the show got boring or anything. It was because Glenn got killed in the Line-up.That really upset her she said.Because of my watching your reactions on the Flat Screen in the living room she's re-thinking of starting it up again where she left off.Just sayin
So I watch several reactions and have an observation. The males thought episodev4 was fine, where the females thought it was among the best ever. I think it was so emotionally intelligent that the sex who doesn't think that's a thing appreciated it less.
Im probably one of the few people that didn't want jadis dying. I really wanted to see a redemption arc and i really wanted her to take Rick and Michone to Gabriel to have a mini reunion
Hi Katie, I love yr reactions and yr chats. I hated Jadis she ws always lying and always putting herself first in every situation. What Michonne said was 100 percent correct she definitely stole Rick. I wanted to love ths episode but for me it wasted time and we only have 6 episodes in total. My favorite scene was Rick asking Michonne to marry hm but the rest was very dragged out. Just hw I feel but I love the series overall.
Great chat, but too much about R&M rekindling their relationships, in fact, way too much in season 1. Another problem is not enough characters. That sucks! By the end of the S1E1 of the original TWD series, there were 6 main characters, allowing you to pick which one you liked best... The plots of this first season's episodes are very different from the plots of the original series' episodes. If the original equations from the original TWD work, _WHY_CHANGE_THEM_? If there is a second season and it's plots continue-on like those of the first, I'm going to have to pan the show!
Well Andrew, Danai, and Scott specifically said this is a love story about Rick And Michonne... and only 6 episodes. You can't introduce that many characters and actually you got multiple new characters. Outside of Rick and Michonne, Nat is my fav character. Does the focus of love between 2 people in a story make you uncomfortable?
some of the scenes with rick and michonne together feels like im watching a couple on a honeymoon 😂
It was like episode 7x12 of TWD.

I'm quietly hoping this is Season 1 (PART A) and after these episodes there will be more lol. Wishful thinking?!
I believe something serious is going to go down which will include 🔥
When Jesus saw Michonne and Rick for the 1st time, they were butt naked 😂
At least Jadis caught them with some clothes on...their boxers.
The Ones Who Live is a brillaint show, I don't want it to become a multi-season disaster.
it works it works very well, my only criticism is its only 6 episodes
Im so scared for the next episode with the major character death😢😭
Katie I’ve never been so afraid of a Sunday keep hearing one may die😰😰😰 no dried eyes in sundays episode🥺🥺🥺
This was a beautiful episode and the death of Jadis was a shocker, just worry about the last episode and who is going to die!
Right....
I was sad for 2.8 seconds but she screwed ppl over more than helped
Oh yeah Katie. On a side note:I was talking with my roommate the other day about TWD Universe inspired by your reactions and,she said the reason she stopped watching wasn't because the show got boring or anything. It was because Glenn got killed in the Line-up.That really upset her she said.Because of my watching your reactions on the Flat Screen in the living room she's re-thinking of starting it up again where she left off.Just sayin
I stopped reading the comics because Rick and Michone weren't a thing.
i like irish awesome people
:}
So I watch several reactions and have an observation. The males thought episodev4 was fine, where the females thought it was among the best ever. I think it was so emotionally intelligent that the sex who doesn't think that's a thing appreciated it less.
Jadis is actually one of my favorites.
Im probably one of the few people that didn't want jadis dying. I really wanted to see a redemption arc and i really wanted her to take Rick and Michone to Gabriel to have a mini reunion
Hi Katie! ILY💀
I like to think that Jadis died as “Anne”…
Hi Katie, I love yr reactions and yr chats. I hated Jadis she ws always lying and always putting herself first in every situation. What Michonne said was 100 percent correct she definitely stole Rick. I wanted to love ths episode but for me it wasted time and we only have 6 episodes in total. My favorite scene was Rick asking Michonne to marry hm but the rest was very dragged out. Just hw I feel but I love the series overall.
❤
I think Gabe was with Rosita, it was the time she just had anther mans baby.
