Showrunners are the lead on production, meaning they choose the above the line crew and report directly to the AMC board and producers, and follow through on getting everyone under them acclimated. Andy and Danai might offer input and funds but they have no bearing on the production means and facilities, that's beyond their purview. It can be argued their role is even smaller since exec producers are usually in-name only versus a regular producer role. Not trying to berate you, but a lot of people confuse very different roles in the industry when the responsibilities are completely separate.
I agree with you the show was never the same after Andrew Lincoln left it. The whole comic book series Rick was in it from the beginning to the end, Rick is the walking dead. It's like having a Batman show with no Batman.
Andrew Lincoln actually wanted to leave the show in the season 8 finale, but the writers convinced him to do 5 episodes in season 9 to send him off the show properly. His family lives in the UK so he wanted to spend time with them and take a break from acting. TWD writers have a lot of flaws but they’ve also been dealt some bad hands with all the main actors leaving the show and in my opinion they did the best they could with what they were given.

This was great episode. It nice to see Rick and Michonne back. It was worth the wait. But man i felt bad for Rick trying to escape and get home to his love ones but it ends in failure. To him chopping his hand off. To almost considering self deleting. But that scene was intense as the CRM chopper was shot down. But happy to see Rick and Michonne reunited. Even tho I didn't expect it to happen in this episode. I do wonder if we will see some past characters like Heath. But anyway I hope you have a wonderful day.
