Floor is probably the most versatile and best female vocalist of our generation.
"Versatile" is accurate but doesn't really convey the total capability, and they've not heard the growling yet. . . . . . . . . . :-)
You are completely correct John.She is guest performer here , comes on stage cold, owns the song, even holds back a bit to avoid destroying Simone, we have heard Floor in full before.You can never hear Floor breath, she is on top of that is tight leather, and that is not very forgiving at all.So I will say she is one of the best live performers if not THE best vocalist in the world ever.
This was a 10 yr anniversary tour that is why the orchestra and choir was there. This isn't what they do all the time. Mark Jansen (No relation) started Epica. Before that he was in the band After Forever with Floor. Also Simone and Floor are best friends. Between bands Floor was a vocal coach and she helped Simone learn some vocal techniques. Simone was 3 months pregnant when she did this show. So that would explain her head banging and her energy level.They have done about 4-5 songs together. Great reaction. Don't worry about the bloopers because you are able to laugh at yourselves. That is what makes it good because you are just yourselves. Take care and stay safe. I am in PA and our governor is not going to move quickly. He is collaborating with NY, NJ because we and NJ have a lot of workers that live in these 2 states + Conneticut. Good luck.
Simone being pregnant puts a lot into perspective now. Love hearing about the background of the band members and the inter-connectivity between them. I wish our governor would take his time, I hear FL hasn't reached it's peak yet. They are just now beginning to open testing centers in the part of FL we live in.
@@muzikphiles6589 I heard on one of the news shows that after the beaches opened up your states numbers went up for those testing positive. Unless our federal govt. sets up a national way to do testing and fund the states that did what our federal govt. should have done and to do the testing it is not going to be safe for a long time. And then President Trump you are not going to be able to get the economy going which is another whole set of problems. I am so scared about where our country is going.

There are 3 Epica songs I want to bring to your attention.
1. EPICA - Consign To Oblivion - Live at the Zenith (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
This one is an old song of theirs, performed relatively recently live in Paris. + Big crowd, less symphonic, more heavy metal, not a showcase of Simone, it's about the spectacle.
2. Epica - The Essence Of Silence (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO)
This one shows the more current sound of the band, heavy metal mixed with symphonic elements, male growls mixed with Simone's singing, nice harmonising guitars, it's about the sound of Epica.
3. Epica - Kingdom of Heaven (Live video) (Lyrics - English / Español | Subtitulado)
This one is not official, it's filmed with multiple phones/cameras, the sound quality is surprisingly good. In my book that's their best performance, best song of theirs that there is a live version of out there.
Keep in mind that Epica is a smaller band than Nightwish in terms of popularity, so don't expect the same level of refinement or spectacle in their live shows.
P.S.: What I personally like a lot from them is when their guitarist plays with a violinist something from Vivaldi's Four Seasons (Presto) at their Retrospect live concert: EPICA - Presto (Retrospect 10th Anniversary DVD I)
That concert is also a source of good reaction music.
Guys check also Revamp- Wildcard, that is Floor's former band, and yea Floor doesn't seem to get tired cuz she sounds the same in the first song or the last song of a concert, never misses a note and those windmills keep coming :)
When you think how she sings right after half a minute windmilling it really hits how good shape she has to be in. And through a whole concert the same kind of things. What a stamina.
You’re right...Simone was pregnant at the time and had already been sing for a while in this concert so Floors mic was dialed back a bit to help Simone out,and yep,the orchestra etc was a one off for their 10th anniversary

hi from the uk, great to see you watching NIGHTWISH, floor jansen is an amazing singer and person,she is a classic trained soprano and vocal coach,she is from the netherlands where alot of symphonic metal is and in finland,europe throughout, floor was in a band from age 15, i believe called after forever. she also had or still has a band outside of nightwish called revamp. she is 6ft 1, tarja the 1st female in the band was opera too but she was fired by the writer and creator of nightwish,toumas,whos on the keyboards, him and tarja were in a sort of relationship,though it was far stronger on toumas side,but she was disconnected from the band and it was a very hard thing he had to do fire her,the poet and the pemndulum he wrote after her leave as he was very depressed and hurt, its about how he felt and how very sorry he was etc, personally i could not connect to tarja either, floor is perfect and you can see how happy toumas(thomas) is now. floor now lives in sweden with her swedish husband and has a 3 yr old daughter. she is 39. you should check out her and marko( the guy with the long hair on bass,singing ave maria....its beautiful. she is still with nightwish.

Then there is Delain with Charlotte Wessels. Suggestion: „Masters of Destiny“
Last but not least you should get to know Anneke van Giersbergen, formerly at „The Gathering“. There is an awesome duett with Sharon den Adel and a complete orchestra: Within Temptation „Somewhere“.

Couple of comments:
-- Don't be cowed by the feedback. Do things the way you like. It's your channel.
-- This show was a special show, 10 years Epica I think. They don't normally travel with an orchestra and choir.
-- Simone was three months pregnant here, she's taking it a bit easier.
-- This is one of Epica's softer and simpler songs. Normally they're quite a lot heavier than Nightwish, especially in their later output.
-- I recommend Universal Death Squad by Epica (lyric video) or Consign to Oblivion (live in Paris).
-- If you're looking for other bands from the same orbit/scene, there is a Dutch project/band called Ayreon, which is a prog rock/metal affair with some great music. It's the brainchild of producer/composer/multi-instrumentalist Arjen Lucassen. Everybody dies (live) is such a pun! I am almost scared to laugh. :)) Great song though. And yeah the latest AYREON even contains another operatic duo by Floor and Simone for an impactful part of a song [I will look up its title later when I function normally, it is 5 am at my place]. Arjen probably saw this one and went "whoa, I want to do that!"
This was a 3 hours show by Epica. Simone had to deliver those high soaring vocals during the whole show, and she was pregnant as wel for 3 months. Floor did 2 songs with them that evening.
As far as how long your videos are. Who cares. You do you. I actually enjoy your laid back an real attitudes. An not afraid to say yes or no about songs, bands, singers. Good mic, just need a filter. Got a background hmmmm.
There are so many bands an singers out there. For something a little special. Tarja an Floor singing over the hills an far away. That's what ended any Tarja an Floor beef. They have been friends for a long time. Even before Tarja left nightwish. Some fans still try to create some beef between the two. Even to this day.

A nice segue from Nightwish to Epica. Now, a nice segue from Epica to Kamelot would be “The Haunting” live from the One Cold Winter’s Night show. Simone appears in that performance.
Floor is always careful not to overpower the band's regular singer. Tarja brought Floor on to perform with her in a 2013 performance of "Over the Hills" right after Floor joined NW as a permanent member. You can see Floor keep motioning the sound guy to turn down her volume level because she was overpowering Tarja's sound level.
Yep Floor was signaling to turn the mike down while Tarja encouraged the same technician to turn up Floor's mike. :-)
This song definitely gives an empowering feeling. For quite a while I would listen to it prior to a challenging day or event just to get a little pumped. Keep up the good work!
The genre is symphonic metal, and branches a lot like; symphonic death metal, symphonic black metal, symphonic prog metal, etc. Epica is dark but tasty, melodic, while Nightwish is on its own genre. Tuomas is influenced heavily in film music, and so I see he integrated that to their music. Stay safe...

Live orchestra is an expensive thing to do, plus it is not very practical to tour the world with the whole thing (5? 6 more buses with people end equipment?) -- that's why Epica, like Nightwish, is using prerecorded symphonic backtracks on their shows. Retrospect show was special, 10 years anniversary, and that's why you see an orchestra here ;)
Epica is much heavier than this generally, I consider them "Symphonic Black Metal", I can recommend Consign To Oblivion @ Zenith as an entry point)

Simone is Floor's BFF. They shared an apt. when they started out singing in metal bands at ages 16 and 17. Their daughters are also fairly close in age. I think Simone's daughter is 4 years old and Floor's daughter 3 years old. Maybe the two daughters will take over singing for the Mom's some day. Floor guest stars with many metal bands and she used to bring on Simone to guest star with her old band Re-Vamp.
I'm pretty sure that the only thing that's true of this is that Floor's daughter is 3 years old. I don't know where you've gotten this information from but the ages you mention can't possibly be right since Floor is four years older than Simone. And as far as i know Simone doesn't have a daughter (she does have a son who was born in 2013).
Several viewers of "Sancta Terra" with Floor as the featured guest had stated that Simone was pregnant at the time of this performance which I thought was around 2015. One of the posters in an earlier viewing stated that both ladies were flatmates when starting out their careers at ages 16 and 17 which I inferred was when they were living together.

Guys....They are Besties. They sing at the pianos in each others houses. Epica special event is why the strings and choir. Simone was with child at this event, understandable she is holding back a bit.

Floor did a song with her at about 45 mins into a 3 hour concert. This song was at about 2 hrs 20 mins in. Having said that, Floor with the lungs of a 6’1” Valkyrie only needs one breath per song. 😜 Seriously, I’ve never seen her lacking for air. A good way to tell if a singer is running out of air is to watch their shoulders. If you see the shoulders raise then they are packing air to get through the next line. 🤘

To witness Simone headbanging with the best of them, plz see the song by Florida's own melodic metalers, KAMELOT, called "The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)" with Simone as the guest vocalist... That whole show filmed for DVD was fire!!! And if you are into this Power Symphonic metal stuff, KAMELOT will fit right in! Great job guys, keep digging for goods. ;)
And fyi, EPICA actually got its name after KAMELOT's benchmark album of the same name out in 2001. It is a confirmed bit of trivia. Afterwards, they did several tours together. Neat stuff.

Ron here. I've read that when she was younger Floor was into body building and she still works out frequently. She is 6'1" tall and weighs a little under 200 lbs, and as you can see she is very fit. Unlike most singers she is built for stamina, endurance and power in her performance, yet her vocal control allows her to sing almost any style of music. In 2019, she was one of seven singers on the Dutch popular show Beste Zangers in which she sings many styles of music and in several different languages. I hope you don't have a copy wright problem with this, but here is a link to most of the songs done during the nine weeks of the show's weekly episodes. The other six singers are also great in their own right.

Epica is a superb band. Many years ago I met Floor in the crowd watching Epica at a small gig in the Netherlands, a moment I treasure. Epica is, in my opinion, heavier and grindier than Nightwish. They, as others have observed, don't normally play with a full orchestra but do special shows which do include them. I love Epica, until Floor they were probably my favorite band, but then the Nightwish Floor combo that is simply an impossible comparison. Still two awesome bands I feel you can't go wrong with.

Floor is soooo good. She can do it all. Sing Opera, classical pieces, gently emotional songs, power rock voice, grunt (like men do)
In Europe we love to combine Metal with classical music and orchestra. Nightwish uses a lot of the London Symphonic orchestra they recorded for them. Classical music is very close to metal, how weird that must seem. The chords, the complicated rhythms and constantly changing rhythm and tone hight.
Floor has iron lungs and golden vocal cords. She is known for her unbelievably reach (5 octaves) and her breath controle and massive lungs. Floor never screwed anything p. Everything she does is professional to in the the points. And sorry guys....Holland produces the best female metal singers. Don't forget the mother of metal Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation, also a Dutch symphonic Metalband. The first to be honest.
In Europe we also like to combine Folk and Metal, Folk Metal. I love Scandinavian folk Metal like Wolfheart.
Simone Simons was VERY pregnant in this production. Listen to Epica before or after the pregnancy. She really is something special.
Simon had been on stage for a couple of hours and was 3 months pregnant at the time so probably was holding back a bit. She usually can produce a full windmill like Floor.!!

Good reaction Glad you found Epica. One thing though: No need to stop every 5 seconds. You can't get into the song when stopping so often. Nevertheless, your comments are good. I suscribed. I recommend "Consign to Oblivion" I was at the show in Paris, it was simply awesome. I hope will discover more symphonic metal bands. The Netherlands is a real breeding place for symphonic metal and excellent singers.

Nice reaction. I appreciate that you are pointing out stuff and evaluate the performance. Many reaction channels become all "postitive" about 99% of their reactions and it gets boring rather quickly in my book. But be prepared to also upset people, some can't handle criticism of their dearest band or goddess and that includes merely pointing out the obvious even without being particularly judgemental about it. Unfortunately.
Floor is regal. Within Temptation is a band that inspired Floor.

It is worth mentioning that Simone was also pregnant during this gig I believe, so she was under a little bit of extra physical stress.But I will also state that an underrated aspect of Floor is that she is as much a stage performer as a singer (which is really saying something). The only vocalist I've ever seen that puts as much thought, physical energy and adaptation into their stage presence is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden (I will acknowledge that for combo musician/singers this is a practical impossibility). Simone is superb, I will never say otherwise. But Floor is generational.
Floor is probably one of the most talented vocalists of our time, not only in Metal. However I prefer Simone and Epica by far. Simone’s apparent vulnerability (she’s actually a badass singer), attitude and unique talent make her sound much more emotional and enjoyable for me. Epica’s heavier, more complex and creative music and the contrast it creates with Simone’s voice make Epica my favorite.
BTW, Epica has more than 40 songs in this level or better. Only few of them were mentioned here in the comments.
Next you should check Kingdom of Heaven (Mexico), Design Your Universe (Restrospect show), Unleashed (Restrospect show), Chasing the Dragon (Restrospect show)

I'm not saying Simone isn't good... She is awesome too and I love Epica (I've been listening to them for like 10 years). Simone isn't that versatile but this style of singing really suits her.

I'm a massive fan of Epica. I liked them before Nightwish. But I have to admit that Simone is not Floor. Simone has a better ballad and sweet quiet voice (check her out on Tides of Time or Once Upon a Nightmare) , but Floor is basically the female Freddy Mercury. It's not a fair comparison.

Floor's mic was turned down a bit, that much has been revealed. But Simone had been singing a whole concert and was several months pregnant, whereas Floor was essentially 'fresh', so the mic adjustment was to keep them roughly on par with each other. Floor is as much of a non-diva as you can find and she'd never want to take over the spotlight.

Floor takes the spotlight when she is on the scene , she is just that awesome. But I agree , from what I have seen and heard , recordings and live too, she is an exemplary artist
@@horiapantea3106 I think my version makes her that much more of the Queen. To paraphrase Game of Thrones, one who must say "I am the Queen", is no true Queen. Floor doesn't try to take the spotlight, i.e. she doesn't metaphorically go around shouting "I am the Queen". She is humble, and it is through her shear level of talent, professionalism, and presence that she just is the unparalleled magnificent Queen of Metal without needing to prove it.

Ron here. I've read that when she was younger Floor was into body building and she still works out frequently. She is 6'1" tall and weighs a little under 200 lbs, and as you can see she is very fit. Unlike most singers she is built for stamina, endurance and power in her performance, yet her vocal control allows her to sing almost any style of music. In 2019, she was one of seven singers on the Dutch popular show Beste Zangers in which she sings many styles of music and in several different languages. I hope you don't have a copy wright problem with this, but here is a link to most of the songs done during the nine weeks of the show's weekly episodes. The other six singers are also great in their own right.
