Sometimes, things hit you at the right age. I was 13 when I first saw the movie, "Army of Darkness," after already playing the original DOOM and Shareware Duke for years. That movie changed my life, and everything I loved started to come together. Horror Films, B-Movies, etc. I now have a love for all of it. I think this game hit you at the perfect time. Another example: My buddies and I were in 6th grade when South Park premiered. That's about perfect. We essentially grew up with those guys, and 'matured' along with them. I avoided Forever when it came out. (i rarely buy brand new games these days. 50/50 chance it ain't even done yet.) But, I eventually watched some gameplay videos and reviews. Last summer, I bought it for my PS3, for $1.99. Knowing full-well what to expect from it, I love it. I can still play through the whole thing in a weekend, if I'm busy. It's like Michael Bay directed a sequel to my favorite Jim Wynorski movie, and it was one of the biggest bombs of the last decade, and I get to play through it whenever I want. (It also rather comically represents one of the last times we had a "macho action hero," but it's so over the top I don't understand how people even got offended.) -P.S. I think the twins are supposed to be obnoxious, so that we're not supposed to care when they uh... burst.
The first time I heard about DNF was back in 2002 when I watched the 2001 E3 trailer. I waited 9 years for DNF to release, almost checking the Duke4 forums every day to get some news. Finally, when the game was released in 2011 I enjoyed every minute of it. Recently, I decided to replay DNF again, after playing Doom Eternal (just to set the bar high). Well, I can say I still loved every minute of it. Especially the Doctor Who Cloned Me DLC. Love this game.
I actually like this game too. Sure, it's not the perfect game, but it is not a bad game either. I played it since it's release and had fun. The only things i dislike, is that underwater level and final mission on moon in DLC for this game. Other than that, in my opinion, it is a good and underrated game.
It's nice to see DNF from a different perspective. I was in elementary school when I saw that famous 2001 E3 trailer and I was in high school when I finally played the actual thing. I wasn't pissed by any means, but it didn't blow my mind either. My only critique is that they relied on references a bit too much. There's a mod that overhauls the gameplay to be closer to DN3D which came out recently. (No 2 weapon limit, faster movement etc.) I've been meaning to replay the game, and the DLC which I've never touched, with it. Nice retrospective, have my sub. :)
Firstly, you made a very good video! I like that you don't really like or dislike the game, you just enjoy it! I recently finished Duke Nukem Forever (26 days ago to be exact). Firstly completed on Hard mode, then I couldn't believe that I finished the game so I replayed it on Insane mode while running for more achievements. I became a big Duke fan in around August-September last year. I knew about Duke Nukem for 8 years that time, I only played DN3D when I was 11 years old then completely forgot about it. Okay so the point is...I love Duke Nukem! I loved DNF, I understand what people don't like about it but I LOVE IT! I still hope for a new game, I want more Duke, WE NEED DUKE! Hail to the king, baby! P.S: I just realized that you are a small channel and yet you made a really good video! Good luck with your UA-cam journey, my friend!
Wow man , your video really deserves respect . I want to thank you , I also wanted to make a DNF video and your video will simplify my task . Thank you and good luck in the development of the channel ! !!
You are correct on that. In retrospect, I could have worded that a bit better, haha. Gearbox's website does specifically list Halo CE under their "developments" page, which I feel could be a bit misleading, too. Thanks for the comment!
And their port is widely regarded as the worst way to play Halo (barring the original release of CE:A, which you guessed it, was built on top of the botched port)
Duke Nukem Forever for me was a very average FPS. It was trying to be both classic and modern it failed miserably, the violence should have been extreame and full of gore.
It was ok but not worth the wait. I still remember waiting for my parents to leave the house so I could play Duke 3D without having to worry about them walking in at a bad time when I was thirteen and looking forward to Forever which had been announced a few months before I got Atomic Edition (Which was the earliest non-Shareware Duke 3D I owned) I think the biggest gameplay mistake they made was imposing the two weapon limit. I don't mind it in games like Call of Duty or Battlefield but IMO being able to carry the full arsenal or at least most of it fits Duke much better.
I love this game, really. I own it on every platform it released and also played thru it on every platform multiple times + dlc. I sunk hundreds of hours in it's multiplayer. I even had a playthru a few days ago. In my opinion it was the last fun shooter before military shooters took over completely and woke culture had it's iron grip on society.
yeah you lost me when you said gfx on this game are good and DUKE3D are ancient graphics. LOL DUKE3D looks 50x more appealling in terms of ART STYLE, than this pile of dookie.

It's wild that DNF has been out almost as long as I waited for it. Awesome retrospective!

Gearbox did not develop Halo, they did the PC port.

and butchered it

Gear Box did not develop Halo: CE, they merely made the PC port

Not bad!
Thanks! It was really interesting to learn exactly what went wrong with Forever. Glad you liked the video!
If you think Halo driving mechanics are the worst, I think you haven’t played enough video games.
We saw a new DUKE3D campaign at least in Duke3D World Tour. Was way more enjoyable than this piece of crap.
