  • Hi from Miss Diorama!
    In this video I demonstrate how I made this miniature model Pine Tree. I think it looks most like a Western Hemlock Pine Tree; What do you think? Be sure to leave your response in a comment.
    I watched @art37 make his DIY Miniature Spruce Tree Step by step tutorial & have used his method to make my tree; Check out his video here;

    One thing I did differently was instead of making flocking out of a sponge the way he did, I used Woodland Scenics Coarse Turf, and I coloured it a darker green for my pine tree using acrylic paint (as you can see in my video). I did grind it to a finer grade using a spice grinder and then sent it through a sieve to separate the finer particles in a similar way to @art37 in his video. If I make another pine tree, I will probably invest in some Woodland Scenics Fine Turf in dark green rather than having to make fine flock myself.
    Here's the link to my Miniature Rustic Woodland Stone & Log Cabin Diorama video that features this Realistic Miniature Pine Tree;

    Materials Used for this Tree:
    Craft Knife,
    Sand Paper,
    Wire & Wire Cutters
    PVA Glue & Craft Glue,
    Brown & Green Acrylic Paint
    Jar with Water
    Drying Tray with Baking Paper
    Paint Brush,
    12mm Static Grass Flocking
    Coarse “spongy” Turf (I used Woodland Scenics Coarse Turf). Use their Fine Turf in dark green if you want to skip a few of the steps in my video. I used what I already had amongst my supplies

    Balsa Wood Dowel / Rod
    Fine drill or spike (to make holes)
    Bowl or Container for flock

    Using the static grass applicator was quite brilliant, nice job!

    Very nice! I really like the dimension you achieved using both products. Very realistic.

    I am stealing this!!! I am a diorama builder too. I am just starting to use large foliage in mine though.

      Hi @christopherjordan5423 I hope you like this method - I got this idea from another youtuber as well and I thought it was one of the best methods to make pine trees that I've seen - so far!

    Very informative, useful video 👍 Would also like to know how to make a live oak with sprawling branches, and palm trees.

      Great suggestion! I have made palm trees before in my Holiday Beach House Video using wire and hot glue and laser cut fronds

      @@MissDiorama I don’t have a laser cutter/printer. Any ideas,suggestions on making palm fronds another way? Something low budget?😄 (I don’t mind a tedious method; I hand carved all the individual treads for a Terminator HK tank)

    could you just use the course turf alone by itself instead of using the static grass w/it? is this possible

      Тогда не получится такой эффект. Поролон просто налипнет кусками на проволоку.

      Experiment and explore with a few scraps, and different flocking materials. This is the path to progress and see what’s possible.

    How long does it take to make a forest with this method?

      I find the best way for something like that is to mass produce the product by doing each step, (trimming,drilling holes,etc…),as many times as number of trees wanted. It might be slow going at first, but the result is all the trees will be done at the same time. This method also ensures consistency .
