Hamburger Helper was a staple in my house growing up and my mom always served the stroganoff with mushrooms, topped with sour cream and french fried onions.. so good and defiantly a comfort food to me as well.
My kids embarrass me when they tell people that they ate stroganoff with Doritos for breakfast before. I was still sleeping and I hadn't been to the grocery store for breakfast stuff, so they took matters in their own hands. 😰
We take the simple pleasures for granted .So happy you finally got your Hamburger Helper! Mushrooms were an excellent addition. Peas are good with it too. Crusty bread with sweet butter🥰

When I ground the beef, I add bell peppers and onions, drain the fat and then add spinach, mushrooms and paprika and add the rest of the box ingredients and cook until done. Add some sour cream at the end and serve with garlic bread. A great cheap meal

The magic behind good stroganoff is the beef broth. You gotta cook it with a nice broth. I haven't found good store bought broth, so I make my own.
