Hi, thank you so much for these videos - they are very helpful! Quick question though, what is the difference between pair production and the quark confinement theory described in the video. My teacher didn't really know, and they seem to be quite similar concepts. Thanks!
Pair production is anytime radiation becomes mass. When this happens a particle and its anti-particle are created. Quark confinement refers to the idea that quarks can not be in an isolated state but only confined with other quarks.
+J. Armando Valle This isn't a matter of forgetting. It is a matter of not wanting to introduce spin. Spin isn't the opposite for anti-particles. I also didn't want to introduce quantum numbers. This is an introductory video, so I introduced anti-particles in terms of what students already know which is charge.
I was terrified of quarks and knowing which ones were where. This helped me so much, thank you!

Is this series for the 2016 syllabus?
And thank you for your videos, they are the absolute best for IB-Physics
Thank you. The videos are for the 2016 syllabus.
If quarks occur in pairs then how is that possible an odd number of quarks make up proton?
In mesons, they occur in pairs. In baryons, they occur in triplets.
now make a Gluon Gun out of that
You also forgot that they got opposite spin however, awesome video

Chris Doner Oh, no problem however it is a great video! huge fan from Mexico
