If these gems could or would man a machine gun, they would hardly miss the target. So much of our culture in the US after the World War was administered a balm of laughter after such a tremendous tragedy and loss of life and resources. These guys, whether they knew it or not, were helping us all to carry on.
Look how effortless these men back then wore suits. Each one were made for their shape and size, none wore off the rack and if they did their tailor would get that piece fitting perfect. My father grew up in the north end of Boston and he said there were tailors everywhere and cobblers. It’s hard to find someone who can shorten your sport coat sleeves if you have working buttons today.
I watched these shows back in the day. Two absolute geniuses. I sure do miss real comedy. It died a long time ago. The stuff today that passes as comedy is not the least bit humorous.
The show only lasted a week as a trial run and had replaced Thicke of The Night which was cancelled because it couldn't compete with Carson. You couldn't take on the King of Late Night in the 80s.

It feels like yesterday I was anticipating this show. Times were already changing fast and, unfortunately, the show only lasted a short time. Sinatra was even on one. Amazing how young everyone still was from the "golden" age of entertainment. Now everyone's gone and the younger generations barely know who these people were. What they missed! Imagine nowadays getting applause mentioning Vaughn Monroe?! LOL They be dumbfounded by the name Marilyn Monroe!

Watching Charlie,,if you notice how he straitens things on Jerrys desk,,i think he was slightly OCD,,,,back then maybe known as a quirk,,,that & certain little movements he does...but he was still a funny guy,,limited but funny.
I'm gonna take a lot of heat for this, but Lewis as a talk show host was insufferable. This is, if possible, even worse than his 1963 disaster with ABC. At least this one only lasted five days. Ugh. Truly awful. Lewis' forced, over-the-top laugh, especially at things that are not humorous is annoying, as if it's an inside joke the rest of us peons are too stupid to get. Callas, who was funny with the physical stuff, ruins it by doing a Ben Casey joke. KNOW your audience... folks, even in '84, didn't remember an obscure medical drama on 3rd rated ABC in 1965. However, Lewis was popular with a lot of people and he made a lot of people laugh, or so I understand.
