    Grape Pool Water will be the name of my first whiskey release.

    This video was sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting for Josh's reaction for the reveal! It is SO easy to buy into the hype of a brand or highly sought-after bottle. I have always dreamed of OF Birthday Bourbon. All I can say is my flabbers are also gasted! 😂❤😂❤

    When you (Josh) made your price projection wants, I almost literally got to the edge of my seat for the reveal…then Erin’s eyed bugged a smidge…fantastic. A friend’s store got one of our (Oklahoma) state’s rare Old Forester Single Barrel allocations…I told him to please have it proofed to 100. All I ever see are the blue labels, and I never like them…and apparently that isn’t an unpopular reaction…if Ryan Cecil agrees with me.

      the barrel strength bottles can be awesome--I had to figure out which warehouses and floors and proofs worked best for my palate. And they do all benefit from water, though most of the time, I drink them neat because I'm very picky about which ones I buy. They often come off hot and need to breathe as well. Cheers!

    Man. Old Forester really needs to get it together, between 1924 being overpriced and thin, 1920 being a shadow of itself, and with the consensus being that many of their blue labels are hot. and now this.. what's going on?

    • @johnspartan9383

      Old label 1920 used to drink way above its weight class and was a FOMO killer and now it’s almost undrinkable. I’m lucky that I have a store that still has a boat load of the old label in stock.

    The BB doesn’t surprise - it’s a hit and miss release. The SB 100 is a huge surprise - I really love those. The SBBS can run hot and sometimes lack the flavor you want in a high proof sip. The SBBS rye is most often spectacular.

    I'm glad I saw this. I would rather have the OF 1910, 1920 or the 1915 blend. The lesson is spending lots of money does not guarantee a greater experience. Great video.

    I received a bottle of Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Proof Store Pick (that's a mouthful) from my sister and her family as a birthday present two weeks ago. Haven't popped the cherry on it yet, but after watching this, I am thinking: soon.

    I've enjoyed the Single Barrel Cask Strength from Old Foster and found it very good. The price point was about $90 but, I haven't seen it again since. I hope that I can find it again. Great show as always! Cheers!

      A lot of folks give them flack for being too hot, but every blue label OFSBBS we've had has been great (and some of them have been exceptional).

    I’ve said it before about how 1910 and 1920 both were not for me (to be nice; 1910 being mildly better). Y’all gave your pours a lot of the disappointing notes that I also gave mine.
    I’m telling you, I know lots of people love OF, but OF should automatically be considered as a polarizing brand. Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t BAD. But OF likes to lean into its ethanol and tannins in a way that I haven’t yet found in other brands.

    • @Scott-co4dq
      @Scott-co4dq 4 місяці тому +1

      Same here. 1920 was not a rebuy for me and the 1910 I currently have has the same somewhat bitter finish note that 1920 gave me. So fare the most enjoyable OF bottle on my shelf is the 100 Rye.

    Regarding your advice at the end to go after things that fit within your preference scope ...
    One thing I've struggled with a bit is resisting the temptation to purchase an expensive bottle that is highly touted by whatever channel when, *from the tasting notes* , it sounds like it would be outside my preference scope. The reviewer says it's a "must buy" -- but it doesn't sound like something I would like.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  4 місяці тому

      We feel you big time there. That's why we try very hard to contextualize pours we love or don't love, because the context is everything. Pretty much everyone said Knob Creek 18 was a must buy, and I feel into the trap and bought one at $200, even though I don't love paying more than $60-70 for stuff 100 proof or under *and* I like-but-dont-love Jim Beam products. Guess what? It's a good bottle, but for my palate it isn't worth anywhere near $200. For $200 I want barrel proof with dense, rich flavors that will wow me. That was a big learning lesson for me--one I won't soon forget--and had I taken a second to think about my own personal preferences I would've known that Knob Creek 18 wasn't the right bottle for me to splurge on.

    So...they say that 75~95% of what we commonly think of as taste comes from the sense of smell... I think Old Forester took them too seriously. I've always suspected that this was not correct. Y'all are backing my assertions. Also, resist the useless fomo. Yes. But, you can grow your palate as well. If you let your palate get too comfortable, and only drink what you think fits into your preference zone, and drink the same stuff all of the time, after a while, you may find yourself in a rut of sorts, and things you used to enjoy, may not be as enjoyable any more. Try new and unexplored stuff from time to time. Keep the journey going.

    I think we are starting to see the limitations of Old Forester and their "hyper- aging" process. I don't understand the craziness of the birthday releases. High-rye is generally not my thing with bourbon anyhow.

    Wow. Super surprised. I personally do not like OF products. Don’t like the flavor at all. But most people love OF and all releases. I am so glad your channel does blinds.
    I have had 2023 OF Birthday Bourbon and it was so weak and not very flavorful at all. Still had to at off putting taste that I get with all OF.

      @@stuffandwhiskey no old forester sold early times. So they were left with obviously lots of early times juice. How do you think they just came out with all of these 1924 1910 1936 1819 crap. It’s a know fact. Sorry to disappoint. Love your channel btw.

    No just not something I’m looking for. Yes OF is a great bourbon but it’s not worth this. Single barrel is something I would consider but not birthday bourbon. Price for quality just isn’t here. Again a single 100 proof is way better. Just saying.
