I think a Remus Repeal would be a good one to blind against it. It has a similar age and price. This bottle dropped in my area last week for $109.99, I was happy with the purchase
I'm a huge fan of everything from Old Forester. 1920, 1910 and even their 100 proof rye have done extremely well in every blind tasting I've had them in. The Single Barrel Barrel Strength beat out EHTBP in a high proof blind tasting. So I had to purchase a bottle of 1924, even though the pricing is a little hard to digest. I'm looking forward in trying it in a blind with other 10 year old bourbons to see how it does.
I was going to get it if I saw it but pulling back on that idea now. I’m a big 1920 fan and I can get two of those or one of this so I’ll go with the 1920. Every other 10 year is under 50 in my area so not sure why OF priced this that high. And they should have gone with cask strength. Just saying.
@@brettsurrett4596 I couldn’t ruin a perfectly good bottle getting a 1924 isn’t on my radar. But if you are interested in getting one then by all means do so.
@@umami0247 I have gotten six bottles. Got with the Brown Foreman rep and we discovered the blend . Didn't ruin a thing. Distillerys blend liquor all the time. If you think it's a perfect bottle, the why don't you have one?
Got a bottle of it over the weekend. Agree on the nose, its AMAZING off the nose. The palate was very dark, rich, some berries and lots of sweet oak and some leather. The finish was very lacking for a $100+ bottle. Really my only gripe. The finish wasnt very long, but it was really nice. Solid A for me. Great review as always.
My thoughts exactly. Love OF, the price for this is a little steep for the product. I think $70-80 would be appropriate. The nose is incredible, but the finish is lacking. Very good, but not great considering the SRP. Having said that, I am thrilled I got a bottle.
100 proof blind tasting: OF 1924 EHT SB Early Times BiB Henry McKenna BiB Knob Creek 9 or 12 Could also throw something smaller and more craft in there. J Reiger out of Kansas City has a really good BiB bourbon that I feel like has a similar flavor profile to EHT.
You guys should go back in a few weeks to see if it's opened up. I've noticed, especially in 7+ year old bourbons, they can really benefit from some air time. Eagle Rare is a perfect example, as is Russell's 10. Both can taste wildly better after a few weeks of being open.
Agree 100%. Price is too high but an absolutely delicious bottle. Will always try and have a bottle when one runs out. I’ll just have to drink it slowly.
I'm ready to thump our distributor for this one! Just a little friendly thump! I need to taste this bottle, and if it's going to be part of the whiskey row line it shouldn't be that hard to find and priced under $100.00 for a bottle!
From what I understand, 1924 isn't actually going to be a mainstay on the shelves alongside the rest of the Row series. Heard it's going to be an annual release.
I want to see a little 1915 in the blind (half 1910 and half 1920), because realistically I can buy both of those bottles my me for pretty much the same price as the 1924 - actually I’d save about 4 bucks, and I’d have twice as much whiskey
I’ve always enjoyed the Old Forester Bottled in Bond. I’ll give this a try when I find one. Thanks for the review guys. That said, for the price you are getting close to Calumet 16 at around $150.
Fantastic bottle! But, per the OF website, though part of the Whiskey Row series, 1924 is a limited annual release, so you can be guaranteed price hikes. Cheers!!
I was referring to retailers marking it up. Sorry I didn’t make that clear. Love your channel! I live in TN and scored 3 bottles. 1 at MSRP 114, and the others were around 140.
I wish I had a bottle of this on hand. I would like to try a AB blind comparison between 1924 and a 1915 blend. I have a suspicion that the 1910/1920 blend would add the age and depth that it sounds like 1924 is missing. Thoughts?
@@ThelifeofKingfish Let it marinate for a couple weeks and it'll be that much better. Seriously some of the best juice you can be repeatably enjoying for such a reasonable price.

let people hate on it! I'm really enjoying it and I'm not even a huge Old Fo fan. Would def take 1 of the 1924 over 3 ER or even a EHT SiB. Of course I wish it was $80 tho 😂🥃
I do wish the whiskey row series had more distinct titles. Whenever I see them in the store I cant remember what ones I've tried before. All the 19XX blends together and my eyes start crossing.
I think the only reason I am disappointed by this release is that the finish is flat. Other than that, it’s a very good release. Maybe not worth the $115 msrp, but still a very good bourbon
I can find Eagle Rare for $50 here in TN (obviously it doesn't sit on shelves but you don't have to rush out to the store during your lunch break to get it like you do 1924). 1924 is probably better but I haven't seen it for any less than $150 here.
I'll buy one of these to try it and then always take the 3 ER10s instead. I'd also rather pay up a little and get a Mich10 (bought one for $159 last month) instead of the 1924...
All the old forester blue label single barrels seem too hot to me. I’m more of a fan of the black label single barrels … these are normally around $100 bucks. So with this age statement I’m good with the 130ish final price .
Had a chance to buy this at 130$. I passed based on the price, sadly come to find out they had JD 10-12 year for 99 and 115. Next time just go to the store when they post it.
In the european bourbon market, where i can't find the whisky row series, i'd probably get this for 115. That being said, i might pay like 80 for another 1920. Easily one of the best bottles i have open rn.
I thought Birthday Bourbon goes for like $170 or $180. Not that I've ever had a chance to buy one at "normal" price. But am I wrong at those numbers for SRP on BB?
Happily gonna pay $150 to get a bottle from my local store to drink with the club. Doubt I'll have back ups of this bottle at that price, but I think the proof bump from 1910 and the age bump make this a no brainer to experience at least once. To some extent, this is also a new, buzzy thing, so if it's one time, I prefer to have some first hand experience to bring to the discussion vs. passing and relying on others to tell me if it's worth it.
For $150 or 180 I’d get a good single malt scotch first! This sounds good! Pricey but then all whisky is skyrocketing upwards. I’m in Canada and it’s even more insane for cost.
