Loved it, the last 2 videos you're really showcasing whats its like to be a Private Pilot and flying for the fun of it. Its always good to stop and smell the roses sometime. Keep up the videos!
I recently got my RA pilot quals and passenger endorsement and am in the middle of my cross country Navs. I'm already loving the freedom of being able of to just decide to go flying. It's only going to get better with RPL and controlled airspace.
It reminds me of the flight I did half a year ago. From YMNG to Moruya ,did an epic approach parallel to the coastline ,went to beach and took my lunch after touch down. Chill a little bit and flew back. It feels so nice to be a private pilot and enjoy the view from the cockpit, much more fun than be an ATP.
Thank you, Stef, for sharing your passion for flying. Your enthusiasm is contagious, and you’re such a wonderful ambassador for GA! And while I’m at it, I should also say your videography, editing, and storytelling have become next level. Cheers!
I got my PPL at just 17 years old and haven't properly driven a car yet😂Thanks for your inspiring content Stefan. Saw your video flying into Le Touquet! I had my first flight lesson there!
Teacher: So how was your weekend? you: oh yeah pretty good I can now legally fly a plane teacher: ...Can you even drive a car??? you: uhhhhh psht yeah mhm 100% can drive a car it would be stupid to be a pilot without a drivers license
That’s why I film my flights. I ‘m a low hours private pilot, and when flying I’m only partly enjoying the views, but seeing the vids I can enjoy it again, if that makes sense.
Beautiful day for flying and filming Stef !! RAAF base at Sale...probably the Roulettes doing a practice...now that would be fun to watch from EYZ !! We are very grateful for your video content Stef and of course Milkshakes contribution ! Might be a silly question but what would happen after you had landed and you found a major oil leak or similar and could not make the return flight ? You can't ring the RACV ( or NRMA) so what would happen to the aircraft if this was the case ?? Great stuff again mate!!And a great place on the South Coast of NSW ( don't go there over Christmas...you cannot move !!)
Thanks Craig, the Roulettes were out on my return leg actually. I didn’t see them but heard them around East Sale. Re your question, I’d call the engineering team and discuss, and if we agreed the aircraft needed to be grounded they’d fly an engineer out to take a look. Alternatively if I was at an airport with a licensed engineer I could always ask them to look. But always preferable to call out Blue Demon from Moorabbin, as they know the aircraft better than anyone else.
Thanks for the 'Windy' app tip - just downloaded it on to the EFB. Yes, Merimbula is a top spot to take the aeroplane - easy flight from Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
It's a phenomenal bit of tech, I probably use it every day. It's my long range forecasting tool and honestly I can't get over how accurate it is, even a week out.
Yeah the whole Airservices team are awesome. We’re all a family up there, and it’s humbling (and still really cool) when I get a hello from ATC or other aviators.
I’ve been following your channel for a while now and one thing that always stands out in your videos is your constant passion for GA. Love the ATC acknowledgement at 7:40 👌
Merimbula's airport and beaches brings back memories for me of when I was doing my ATC training in the 1970s. I was sent from Melbourne to Sydney to undertake 4 months of field training at Sydney Airport, Bankstown Airport and Armidale Airport (and a stint at the Williamtown AFB). On the drive up I stopped at Merimbula Airport and took a joy flight just for fun. Have been back many times since and love the south coast of NSW.
That's so cool! One question: did you do something special to keep propeller almost matching framerate? Is it some gopro cirrus edition or you adjust rpm for this? ;)
The internal front facing camera has an ND filter on it to smooth the prop blur. The external (wing cam) doesn’t but I am adding one very soon. No special camera, just a GoPro Hero5.
I see you're enjoying your new plane and good on you. Fly the wings off it, well not literally, you know what i mean. It'd be nice to see you do some island hopping. Thanks Stef.
Thanks Spiro, yes I’m keen to get some over water miles on EYZ as well. A trip back to Tassie is definitely an option, would love to take her further too...
Hi Stefan. Hervey Bay Qld is a nice place to fly to. I'm flying to Murgon this weekend for a fly-In overnight camping trip with many others expected. There is also a STOL competition proposed. I have been watching the weather for a week like a hawk. Nothing beats Flying Freedom! #crayonboxflyingadventures
You got balls planning through East Sale 🤣. How was that? Easy as a normal - or is there more involved?Even on weekends I fly under the deactivated steps because I’m terrified it may be still active.
I called East Sale a few days prior and they had no issues with me planning through their airspace IFR as long as I used recognised waypoints. I had no issues getting cleared there or on the way back, and even requested alternate routing on the way home (which is in the next video). I found them really easy to deal with, perhaps give East Sale Centre a call before your next flight and ask them how they’d recommend you request to go through the zone. They were really helpful to me.
EYZ wouldn’t like that. I’m sure I could land on a beach, not sure if the plane would be usable after though 😅 Those bush pilots that do it are pretty awesome though, respect for that level of flying.
Thanks Cameron, I was only there for around half an hour, a quick dip and some filming and a rest between flights. Definitely a good idea to spend a little more time down there again soon though, it'd be a good run up and down the beach to the headland.
It's a beautiful beach, I think I'll be back over Summer for sure. And thanks for the question but I don't share my flying hours in public, just something I prefer to keep private if you don't mind. Thanks mate.
Great background music! Every great landing starts with a great approach. Prior planning, in the safety and comfort of home, long a habit of the most successful pilots, surely beats scratching your head in flight, and wondering why things are happening as they are. Superlative! 😎👍 #coflightplannermilkshake
Nice flight mate. that was the day i did YMMB to Lakes Entrance to Mt Hotham. Sale CTA gave me VFR clearance at 8500 in their airspace direct to Mt Hotham which was handy. was an amazing day to fly and it was an incredible flight!
So, how to you make a steady income being a private pilot. Because I want to do this its my dream to do this specifically but I don't know if i could make a living off this? plzzz reply.
Lol weather. In Australia. Crikey it’s hot and sunny. What’s the weather tomorrow? Hot and sunny. How bout after that? Oh mate, weather pattern’s changed...it’ll be very hot and very sunny!😉
If you get a water bottle for flying, DONT get one of those ones with a built in straw. Once you open it at altitude you'll get a nice water feature display in the cockpit.
Ha, thanks for the tip. Also don't fill your water bottle with carbonated water. Philippe did that once on our European trip, took ages for his trousers to dry out.
Nice video ,Stefan. Same reason why so many pilots prefer corporate flying to big commercial passenger planes. I not sure, but do use your plane for business meetings , as well? Your Spring ,our Fall. Cheers, Rik Spector

So amazing, thank you for sharing your experience. I aspire to have the freedom to explore this planet while flying my own plane! A dream!!
Considering a PPL and trying to make sure I'm grounded in my "why". Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
You are becoming a routine for me.....'oh a new Stef video...ok make coffee, grab the remote, chill on the couch for 10-14 min'.
Ha thank you, that’s really nice to hear. Glad to know you’re enjoying the adventures. Thanks for watching.

I really appreciate that Tom, thanks. I’ve been trying to focus on story and creativity so hat feedback is really encouraging. Thank you 🙏

That’s brilliant, congratulations Emily. That’s a massive achievement and you should feel really proud. Enjoy your flying, stef
Awesome video. Once I graduate high school im going to get my private pilots license hopefully!
You`re living my dream life man keep it up, and inspire more people!, my only problem is money but I believe that I can pass it if I believe

hey stef, will you be attending air venture in parkes this weekend? If so cant WAIT to see you there! cheers will

Nice to have the time and money to do that. I would love go do it any time I felt like it. Love the video though, I start getting itchy feet!!!
Another great video mate,
Always the best music!!!! Keep up the good work!
Very nice panel!
Precisely what it should be about! A great video Stef.
Loved the video! Very well done!!
Very nice, the only way to spend a day off :) , your watch appeared to be on UTC time otherwise the sun rise at Merimbula is pretty early lol.
Thanks Paul, yes I set my watch to UTC when flying. Easier when filing departure times or working out estimates for waypoints etc.
@@StefanDrury Agreed :)
loved the music! and the advise.
Very nice Stef .. better than Southend innit though.
Southend has the world's longest pier though doesn't it? Merimbula beach is decidedly pier-free.
Stefan Drury . Indeed you are right there Stef . 😀. I’ll be seeing Southend Pier next week , I’ll check it out from aloft . Love your videos mate .
Forecast scenes at Merimbula this weekend: 6 aircraft in the circuit and another 4 holding, waiting to get in.

Great video buddy. I can totally relate.
Next time you (plan to) head to YMER gimme a yell... Will come down from YSCN to meet!
Imagine knowing the *correct* weather days before you fly.... #novascotia
Hey Stef, love your videos👍. Do you think you will ever fly down to Lakes Entrance?
Absolutely. The Blue Demon team were there the other week but I couldn’t make it. KJN and TDS had fun though, it’s on my list.
@@StefanDrury Awesome! Hope I see you there 1 day.
Lunch at the club is also very good there.

Jeremiah’s Student Pilot Adventures 🤣
Wait until you get a hold of a Contigo water bottle. They are pretty slick!
Just Googled Contigo water bottle - those things look amazing, almost too perfect for flying...
They are pretty sweet they are self closing, double walled easy to clean and sanitize. I use the Sheffield model.
Land on a beach! Land on a beach! Are there beaches that you can land on? (Apart from Barra)

I'll get mine one day. Unfortunately don't have the substantial disposable income required, or time for that matter.
an oyster farm near the airport! landed here few times
Awesome airport, anytime you can walk from your plane to the beach, it’s a good airport.
Jesus...looking at all these ,I just decided stay with my piaggio fly 125..
Lol, I thought it was Frankston Beach because you fly from Moorabbin
Haha, that would have been a bit of an anti-climax (sorry Frankston, nice beach but you’re no Merimbula).
that was sweet! as an aside,, what were the "trees" with the dark purple color?
