  • Feeling so conflicted on so many things. Where to move...I don't think I want to move somewhere hotter and more humid than here, but I want to move somewhere cheaper where we can actually live. I don't even know if we're going to move...we have no plan. But living here right now is not really working out. I hate not knowing whether this is our "forever home" or not. I feel like it's not because even now, this house isn't working well for us. I also talk more about my faith journey I've been on. Try to figure out why Catholicism uses Tradition and the Church Fathers so much to explain things because how do we know that they even had things right?

I think you're thinking too much about "religion" rather than just focusing on Jesus and loving Him. You should read about Jesus' teachings, rather than the old Bible scholers. His teachines were very simple really. Just believe in Him, believe he died to save us, pray to Him, not just when we want something, but all the time, be thankful to Him. Love your neighbor as yourself, in other words be kind to everyone. Teach your children to pray each night before bed to let them know that Jesus loves them, and cares for them and they need to depend on HIm. Just look up Jesus' teachings. They are not complicated. Jesus didn't have a church - he taught people outside, or anywhere he found them. It's not as important about what church you go to, as loving Jesus for saving us and believing in him. That's what's important. We are asked to gather together with like minded people - that love Jesus. That's all we're asked to do as far as church goes. No one will ever understand all the old teachings but that's ok. Just believe in Jesus. And love him with all your heart, and love all people. Hope some of this makes sense :)

Thank you for that. 🤗 Since posting this video I think I am finally starting to see the difference between religion and faith… I kind of feel sad that my whole life I have missed out on the faith part and the trust and know Jesus part because all I knew was how to follow church rules- rules I didn’t even understand, at that. 😕

    • @valeriehughes5726

@@MommyEtc You're exactly right - it should all be about faith, not religion. Every church has "rules" - but the only rules we should follow are Jesus' rules. We can go along with church rules, as long as they are Bible based, but it won't get us to heaven. Only believing in Jesus and knowing in your heart that he died for your sins so that you can go to heaven, and live the kind of life he has asked us to leave, that's what will save you. As long as the church you choose has like-minded people - people who love Jesus and believes in the Bible and follows it's rules, then you don't need to worry about the rest of the church rules. Jesus said where one or two are gathered together, there I will be too. So weather in a church building or out in your community, if you are with other Christians, then Jesus is there too. Just read the New Testament and learn about the things Jesus has asked us to do. Afterall He died for us, so we just need to listen to Him and do as He has asked us to do. You'll get there. Reading the Bible and praying will get you there for sure.

Exactly this. It's all about Jesus. Not the "scholars" - rely on Christ and not men. The Catholic church focuses too much on what people have done/written. Look to the Holy Bible for all the truth you need. The Bible needs no supplements.

We moved from AZ to NC two years ago and absolutely love it. It is hot from late May through August then starts cooling off in September. I love the seasons because out west we didn’t have them. We live about 45 minutes from Charlotte. Lots of people including some of my neighbors are from up north like you and they came down here for our more mild winters. I can’t think of a better place I’ve ever lived!

My suggestion would be to attend RCIA to confirm that you truly don’t agree with Church doctrine, but to attend with an open heart. You will either confirm that Catholicism isn’t for you, or you may find answers to your questions about why Catholics believe what we believe. At the very least, it will help you continue your faith journey with more clarity ❤

We moved to NC from NJ six years ago and consider it one of the best decisions we've ever made. We're on the outskirts of Raleigh. Still cannot believe how low the property taxes are! We get the four seasons but winters are much more mild. It does get humid in the summer but it's not unbearable. Many of our neighbors are from NY and NJ too!
Since the Catholic Church was started by Jesus and He left us with His Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist, I personally could never leave the church. If you can, find a church with perpetual adoration, stop in any time to visit the Blessed Sacrament. Just sit quietly and be in the real presence of Jesus. And pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance in your faith journey. ❤

I live in middle Tennessee, so the weather is similar here to Georgia. First of all, the central air does just fine even days when it’s in the 90s our house stays at 69 where the air is set.
Second, the summer is never so hot you can’t go outside. The thing is, there might be some really blistering hot days, but there are always the cooler days sprinkled in. But even when it’s really hot, you can just involve water outside and it’s all good!
Not to mention we really only have a couple super cold months and even then warm days are always popping up.

It’s expensive everywhere. I’m in South Dakota and you can’t buy anything decent for under 250k unless you’re willing to live in a run down nasty area. Rents are ridiculous too. My sister lives in Mississippi and she resorted to living in a trailer because anything nicer was wayyyyy out of budget. I dunno, I just think it’s high everywhere.
Also, we don’t have state tax in SD but our property tax is almost double what it was in NY 😳

hi Jill, i'm way late to the party but as a born & raised North Carolinian (and someone who is also on a faith journey!) i wanted to leave my 2 cents. if you're looking for a place with milder winters and less humid summers, i recommend the high country of NC (Boone, Asheville, Hendersonville, etc). the piedmont/middle region of the state and the coast are WAY more humid and without a/c, pretty much unbearable from May - September.
as for your faith journey - i have been and will keep praying for you! if you're interested in reading more about what's "real" and not just what's said by the church, i recommend reading the book The Church of Rome at the Bar of History :)

I remember in College i had a sociology class and the professor said people made up the idea of religion because they couldnt stand the idea that this is all there is.

I'm with you on moving. I'm in northern Ohio. We don't have any time that it's nice enough to have the windows open. We go from furnace to air conditioning. It's hot and humid in the upper 80s to 90s all summer and below 30 most of the winter. It sucks. I want to be able to have windows open for more than a week. I don't want to have to scrape ice and snow off the car and shovel snow every other day. Our weather is similar to yours but you seem to get a bit more snow. We are couped up year round.

Kids also love using snow scrapers! 😄 This past year we've had wonderful weather, I think. But also, maybe I'm just learning to be content in all circumstances? 😏 ❤️ hope you find joy in Ohio.

Hi, Jill! Ever think about moving to the Rust Belt/Great Lakes region? There are lots of beautiful places that are cheaper than New Jersey and also colder than the south. We live on the coast of Lake Erie in northern Ohio and are really happy here. I think Michigan could also be a good fit for you guys--I think it might be even cooler (temp wise, lol) and less expensive than Ohio, depending on where you live. Regarding religion: I admire your search for the truth. I was raised by secular humanists but have always been drawn to a universal and very real concept of love, God and spirit. I went to Catholic school and didn’t really like the dogma, but practicing the rosary was a deeply meaningful experience to me. I think daily deep prayer, meditation and reflection combined with reading widely are good practices for seeking truth. I believe God is beyond words and lives in each of us and can be felt in the heart. People take these God experiences and shape them into religions that can only ever be a partial view of God. These religions can do good and bring people together, or they can do harm and divide people, and sometimes all of that can happen at once. I think when Jesus is known and loved by people, it’s his compassion and love that resonate, and so I like the United Church of Christ because they focus on helping people in need and loving everyone rather than condemning certain people. Just my two cents! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Homeschool laws here just changed and they're amazing now for us. We are outside from late March to early November and it's very reasonable. Summers in NE Ohio are slightly windy and not too humid and in the 80s at most. Fall and spring are gorgeous in Ohio.
Winter can see temps down to 15 below zero but average is more like 25 to 35 degrees. See? Ohio. 😉

Jesus said “this is my body” not this represents my body. There are a ton of great resources and miracles of veins and real blood coming out of the Eucharist. I encourage you to ask a priest these questions as they can explain it better than me. I hope you’re able to find the answers you’re looking for! I was in a similar place to you a few years ago. I spent a long time asking questions to other Catholics and priests who helped me to understand! And even a few months ago I wouldn’t have had the courage to comment this, trying to explain my faith better. Ive come to a point in my life where while I’m no where near as knowledgeable as some, I feel I know enough to reach out to people to know they’re not alone in they’re questioning and that there are answers out there! I’ll end on this. Bishop Fulton Sheen said “there are not 100 people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church, but their are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be”. There’s so much to Catholicism and I’m learning more everyday! So much is misunderstood. I pray your faith journey takes you down a path of learning and understanding! God bless!

    • @MommyEtc
      @MommyEtc  10 місяців тому

He also said stuff like “I am the word” and “this cup is the new covenant in my blood”, so do we also believe that Jesus is language and the cup is the covenant, instead of the blood in the cup? I feel like it can be interpreted different ways. Even when the disciples were walking away because it was a “hard teaching” and Jesus asks if it’s difficult for them, he let them walk away because they weren’t believers. He wanted them to believe in what he was saying and they didn’t, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t actually meant to be symbolic. Further down in scripture Jesus says “it is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing.” So that seems contradictory to him saying everyone must eat his flesh to have life in them. It’s all very confusing to understand what the actual meaning is.
Thank you though, I’m glad you are feeling secure in your faith and I hope one day I will as well.

Other than reading the Bible itself, you might benefit from reading A Case for Faith by Lee Strobel. He was an atheist investigator who looked to prove Christianity as a cult and found Jesus and His truth instead and became transformed. Maybe even pick up A Case for Christ, also. Both are by Lee Strobel and they helped when I was in a place of questioning. Sending prayers that God brings you to the things you need to answer the questions you have. The best place to start is the Bible. Sending hugs!

A good way to judge the reliability of anything anyone says about Jesus & anything He prescribes is to measure it against what the Bible says. But also, Valerie Hughes is right, it's about a relationship with Jesus, rather than what you do or don't do. Pray, ask Jesus to show you the truth. He's always ready to show people the truth when they genuinely seek it. He wants us all to know the truth about Him. And don't rush things. I'm 43 yrs old & it's only in the last few years that my faith has gone from that of a mustard seed to more mature, even though I gave my life to Jesus when I was almost 8 yrs old. We all have our own faith journey. Sometimes God reveals a lot at once, other times, He reveals just a little at a time. But like I said, pray & ask God to show you the truth.

I think most religions started with good intentions and have taken over more of a cult feeling. I think theres probably a lot in the bible that inaccurate, i mean those stories were told for hundreds of years before being written down(ever played telephone in elementary school?) Just be a good person, pray, love jesus. Check out different churches and find one you like. You wont get sent to h*ll because you went to the wrong church or didnt read the right scripture, you get in for believing and being a good person

But who says any of it is true? Who says the Bible is true? Maybe start with the history of Yahweh and ancient Canaanite gods. Where the Bible came from, and how it was put together? How the Catholic Church was formed for political reasons? Biblical scholars like Bart Erhman have a wealth or knowledge and expertise. That is, if that’s what you’re looking for. For me, I needed to lay it all out on the table and look for truth, whatever it is. There is a lot we don’t know on both sides. That’s why it’s important to think critically, trust yourself. Don’t listen to people who say you’re thinking too much or the wrong way. They may be well meaning but if something seems off, there’s a reason for that.

Do you not believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God? I forget what you believe, I know you’ve probably told me before.

@@MommyEtc I don’t personally. I believe that Bible is historical fiction. My point is though, you don’t have to accept anything that doesn’t make sense or land right with you. I don’t believe there is one right way for everyone so it’s important to figure out what we each believe! You are doing great asking questions and thinking for yourself! Keep going! It can be confusing and lonely but worth it! I’ve come to a place of peace now, but still learning and sorting things out. There’s so much to process 😅 Time is needed.

I doubt anybody believes everything their church believes. Concentrate on the bible. Jesus Christ is our Savior

The Catholic Church teaches that it’s all or nothing, you have to believe and accept everything the church teaches or you aren’t really Catholic.
