Awesome..!!! My all time favorite car I would kill even for a 1960 model. I would forever be grateful to ghostbusters for introducing us to such a great car.
When I started in EMS (emergency medical service) we had a 1957 Caddy M & M (nickname for Miller Meteor). It was full rigged as an ambulance, sole function. It had the low roof like yours quite cramped, but you could handle 4 patients lying down, one on the main gurney, one on a wheel and let stretcher on the floor next to it and then two on folding cots hanging from hooks in the ceiling and sides. I think about the windshield wiper you showed, I assume vacuum like ours. The trouble was that when you were running code on a rainy night, you had to let your foot off the gas a bit to build up vacuum to make the wipers go. These were great old machines, 90+ MPH was not uncommon when running code (lights and siren) Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!
The most beutifull car ever made IMO. Ever since Ghostbusters (1984), that car have been my dream car to own, and boy I would really fight for one to a bloody end if getting the oppertunity to aquire one, mark my words on that. No one will then stand in my way for that car. Just so sad that there are not many of these one out there :-(
That is my dream car. I have been to literally hundreds of junkyards from Virginia to Georgia to Texas in the last 30 years looking for one. Specifically, I want a 1960 Miller-Meteor, but if I ever found a '59 in this condition, I would have to buy it!
Nice car I have a 1960 Cadillac conversion hearse has a red light and a siren and has in the back door emergency vehicle thank you for this video thank you for showing your car
Great tour of this well known vehicle. I feel like some of the features they used to have in this car were kept and upgraded in newer models. I think even minivans got some of the compartment and fold away utilities that were in the Miller Meteor.
First video I've seen an in depth of a combination anbulance/hearse which was interesting. Others only describe a combination ambulance/hearse & not show the details. Thank you for sharing!
Interesting combination vehicle. If a patient was sick the ambulance would take him to the hospital, if it was too late, the hearse would take him to the cemetery!
I like the fact that you explained that a commercial chassis could be ordered and then coach built. Rolls Royce & Duesenberg would do the same thing. The coachbuilder for Cadillac was Fleetwood at the time when I last rode in one. (Cadillac later bought them out.) I remember as a Catholic altar boy that jump seat as well. If I was serving at a funeral on a Saturday morning, my parents would drop me off at the church or I'd be picked up at my home wearing my Cassock & Surplice by the funeral director. I'd serve the funeral Mass & then attend the committal service at the grave. I'd be driven home. Neighbors freaked the first time that a hearse was at my front door; but, they learned that everything was ok. As to extra storage, there is something called a, casket truck. It is the collapsible casket stand with a skirt on the bottom.
I absolutely love this car and I hope the restoration is going well. I was especially glad to see the interior shots since I have a 1/25 scale Ecto-1 model kit that I'd rather build as a stock ambulance/hearse combo, just like the car in the video.
8 of my uncles worked at the fleetwood body plant it used to be great them coming by with a new Cadillac with the wire wheels and big leather seats to drive for a day from work great memories sad when they closed the plant and clark st where they were put on the chasis and assembled at thats when they opened hamtramck assembly for the smaller Cadillacs im a 4th gen autoworker (chrysler) my dad grandpa and great granpa all worked at the ford river rouge plant in dearborn one day i would like to have one of those old late 50s early 60s Cadillac thanks for the tour of yours
in its condition yes id love this for my last ride. plenty of payload for the heavy. and will accommodate. 7 footers. that was my favorite long travel family car. da 59 coupe de ville 4dr of course. its a gem fella,,
My guess is the beacon light and siren were either after market add ons or added on as a custom order detail. You are correct about the vent window (or I heard them referred to as wing windows growing up) and you didn't need a/c. The last car I had with those was a 1988 Crown Vic. I wish so badly they would bring them back.
On a combination coach the beacon can be added or removed through a threaded rod and wing nut on the roof through the zippered headliner. A switch was mounted on the dash for the light and siren, that was mounted under the hood.
Zipper on the headliner is for taking a beacon on and off the roof for when it is changed over between being an ambulance or hearse. The siren was mounted under the hood.
So Awesome!!! what a beast!! ultimate driver to have and cruise on NZ roads.. pop many an eye ball 😆 cheers for knowledge about it.. 59 fan here for sure... I'll take it 😊
This one was found via someone contacting me, the first one I found was dumb luck. Took me 8 years to find the first one, and then this one comes along a decade later. It'll take a while, but you'll find one!
I had a 60 Cadillac Superior coach combination car from 1980=87 no radio no AC BIG generator, mine had a siren in between the radiator and the grill , you'd flip a switch on the dash board and hit the horn and the siren would go ,
Funeral homes bought them.... the funeral director would purchase them and act as a "medic" / funeral director.... the funeral director mainly had a basic first aid training and would use speed of the car to get them to the hospital a/s/a/p ... the unit was equiped with small oxygen deliver system and engine manifold vacumn for suction of the patients mouth / throat. I actually used one on an occasion.... the ride of those big cars were wonderful.... All of our ambulances were out on calls and we had nothing else to use....
I think thats the pre Ecto in the beginning of the ghostbusters movie that had gray primer on it and on this car you can se some slight gray primer on it
Wow, that was very interesting and informative bro! Haven't seen a Caddy like this before, kinda bare bones & creepy too, but you did a excellent job showcasing this beast! 21' long Geeeze. 😎
Here’s an idea.. (that someone has probably already said) Ecto-1A doesn’t really have any replicas made after it. You can see where I’m going with this.
wonder how many persons took their last ride aboard that guy . nice tour . i "think" that the crankcase ventilation was vented at oil cap ? i seem to recall down draft tubes before pcvs?
I've often wondered the same as well. The crankcase "vent" is indeed part of the oil fill cap. It's the little slit at the bottom. It contains a steel wool like material to prevent spillage. Make no mistake though, it's not the same as a PCV valve :)
I would love to own this car , I am sure 1000,s of other guys would also . Cool video , cool car . New sub to you today. Watching some of your videos now, very cool . Mike Espo .
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is not the same as Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV). The vent in the oil cap is the filtered intake of the PCV system. Elsewhere on the block is a Road draft tube which is where the PCV valve would be on a modern engines PCV system, It releases oil fumes out into the air (not good today) relieving pressure in the crankcase. The EGR takes unburned Exhaust gasses and recirculates them into the intake manifold to be re burned. This system is an emissions requirement staring in the late 60s and early 70s .
Peter Venkman: You can't park that here! Ray Stantz (gets out of car): Everybody can relax. I found the car. It needs some suspension work and shocks, brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear end... Peter Venkman: How much? Ray Stantz: Only $4800. Maybe new rings, also mufflers, a little wiring.
Awesome..!!! My all time favorite car I would kill even for a 1960 model. I would forever be grateful to ghostbusters for introducing us to such a great car.
Were these ever used as Cadilac Stationwagons? At most I see Buick Wagons but not Cadillac.

You're welcome!
I believe '58 was last year for vacuum wipers. We had both a '58 and a '59. The latter was first year for electric wipers.
My dad passed in 59' and this is the same year Hearst he rode in to his resting place!
It reminds me the 70's coroner cars while seeing Columbo or Manix movies 😂
It's straight out of that era!
The most beutifull car ever made IMO. Ever since Ghostbusters (1984), that car have been my dream car to own, and boy I would really fight for one to a bloody end if getting the oppertunity to aquire one, mark my words on that. No one will then stand in my way for that car.
Just so sad that there are not many of these one out there :-(
It's a beauty. It's huge but more to love. Usually they are left outside and the elements take their toll. I bet it cleans up nice.
That is my dream car. I have been to literally hundreds of junkyards from Virginia to Georgia to Texas in the last 30 years looking for one. Specifically, I want a 1960 Miller-Meteor, but if I ever found a '59 in this condition, I would have to buy it!
i love how you almost did the doug demiro intro
Glad you caught on to that!
This is the exact car that the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 is
Nice car I have a 1960 Cadillac conversion hearse has a red light and a siren and has in the back door emergency vehicle thank you for this video thank you for showing your car
Great tour of this well known vehicle. I feel like some of the features they used to have in this car were kept and upgraded in newer models. I think even minivans got some of the compartment and fold away utilities that were in the Miller Meteor.
It's quite interesting to see how space utilization in cars has evolved over the past 60 years.
The hearse showcased in Harold and Maude was probably the best representation of these.
I've always wanted to take a closer look at one of these cars, thank you for the video!
You're welcome! I'll be uploading a more in-depth video relatively soon covering items I didn't in this one.
Very nice beautiful old car🙂👍💪
I liked the DeMuro joke. Lol.
Beautiful. I need that for my Halloween display.
What a beautiful car!! Such fantastic lines!! Would love to have one.
Interesting tour of this beast. At one time I had a 1961 Superior ambulance, which had a unique rear chrome bumper and tail light configuration.
Amazing car !!I have a 1970 Cadillac M/M combination hearse
First video I've seen an in depth of a combination anbulance/hearse which was interesting. Others only describe a combination ambulance/hearse & not show the details. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for posting! Absolutely beautiful
This is so cool. Thanks for explaining it. Being so young dont get to see cars like this much anymore very sad.
Interesting combination vehicle. If a patient was sick the ambulance would take him to the hospital, if it was too late, the hearse would take him to the cemetery!
That has to be the longest car I seen in a long time
Nuh its cool it’s been in a movie ghost busters

Very cool car. Definitely a piece of history. I'd love to have one like it. Hope u do right by it
I absolutely love this car and I hope the restoration is going well. I was especially glad to see the interior shots since I have a 1/25 scale Ecto-1 model kit that I'd rather build as a stock ambulance/hearse combo, just like the car in the video.
Hearses don't have interior door handles in the rear for obvious reasons, but the dual purpose does. Interesting. Rare coach.
Great to see a MM hearse in its original condition. Also great in depth tour of it.
That thing is huge. That has to be the worlds biggest Cadillac.
Wow,she's awesome. I'd love to own that car she's longer than a hearse she is basically a caddie wagon limo
Seems like with the van-life stuff going on this might be a cool camper conversion car.
I love this car it was built in the same year I was born.
As a residential contractor and Old Cadillac Fiend, I would Love to have one of these as my Light Work vehicle 😁😁
Thanks for sharing this great video! Perhaps someday I can see one in person.

💖WOW !!!!!! The MOST HUGE ICONIC AMERICAN CAR🇺🇸💕
The moment weve been waitin for!!!
Beautiful car.
Thank you! :D

Imagine you dad owns this car in your childhood
3:20 The ashtrays are designed to be opened by pushing on the BOTTOM. Use some WD-40 on the sliders.
I mean, they pivot on a fulcrum, so pushing from the bottom or pulling from the top still results in the ash tray being open???
Sure would like to have one of these
Very informative! Thanks for the tour.
Glad you liked it! You're quite welcome.
How yall find these amazes me. Been trying for 3 years and can't find one
This one was found via someone contacting me, the first one I found was dumb luck. Took me 8 years to find the first one, and then this one comes along a decade later. It'll take a while, but you'll find one!
I want that car it is very big and it is very beatiful thats my favorite car
I had a 60 Cadillac Superior coach combination car from 1980=87 no radio no AC BIG generator, mine had a siren in between the radiator and the grill , you'd flip a switch on the dash board and hit the horn and the siren would go ,
Wow is that thing LONG!
The length is remarkable.
I may have been looking at the Ecto 1
Well, I must say, it LOOKS like theres alot Less work this go 'round... Keep us posted on the restoration L. !
You know what they say...looks can be deceiving ;)
Cadillac hearse é uma lenda americana lindo carro..Brasil 🇧🇷
Funeral homes bought them.... the funeral director would purchase them and act as a "medic" / funeral director.... the funeral director mainly had a basic first aid training and would use speed of the car to get them to the hospital a/s/a/p ... the unit was equiped with small oxygen deliver system and engine manifold vacumn for suction of the patients mouth / throat. Thanks for the insight John!
Lovely video! thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for sharing
0:00 almost went a little Doug DeMuro there
Seeing it without all the movie props on the side really illustrates how long one of these Cars are truly.
“Everyone can relax, I found the car”
Very nice example.
1959 Cadillac Miller Meteor ambulance : ❌
Ecto 1 : ✅
Fantastique, cette Cad est magnifique j'adore 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I was a kid and when we walked to school, we passed a funeral home. This hearse model scared me!
da hora esse cadillac muito bonito.
That car would be a fantastic candidate for an interesting restoration, although doing it "right" would be fantastically expensive and time consuming.
I love this car. It's too bad they have nothing like that in Australia

@@TheAutoCollection Hey, why no more videos of this cool car?
Unfassbar..sehr geiles Auto...so schön 👍👍
The Jump seats, would also be used by Clergy, & sometimes a Family member whom would accompany the Body to the Cemitary.
Love it!! Does it off-road? Let’s take it on a trail guide... kidding, can’t wait to see your work again!
I don't know about rock crawling, but we can DEFINITELY do some overlanding with it!
@@TheAutoCollection the ghostbusters have needed a good overlander... I mean there’s ghosts in the wilderness, right?
@@coloradomallcrawlers Exactly!
❤ Fantastic!
Badass car
Cadillac is the best.
Love the Doug DeMuro fake out at the beginning
Here’s an idea.. (that someone has probably already said) Ecto-1A doesn’t really have any replicas made after it. You can see where I’m going with this.
Great video 😌
Quite interesting...
Esse carro é muito lindo!
This car looks so eerie, it’s like a ghost in a wedding dress. If anything should be a ghost car it’s this.
Well it has “trapped” ghosts in the past
i want one!!!!!1
Holy saint mother mary magdalene of passadena! look how gagantic this beast is!!! 0:03

Whack an A/C and an alternator in her and what a great getaway tourer / camper.
I really wish that carmakers would start making stuff with tailfins again.
I would love to own this car , I am sure 1000,s of other guys would also .
Cool video , cool car .
New sub to you today.

how did any of them survive with such a long frame ? interesting vehicle for sure
Great question. The sheet metal is so thin that if the car were t-boned it'd fold in half.
I want a '59 cadillac so bad, since my last car past away I been riding a bike to save money for a 1959 cadillac series 62 sadan
Nice original condition! Be worth it to restore the mechanicals to factory spec and leave all that nice patina just as it is!
That thing is longer than my friggin' house!
Are those cicadas droning throughout the video? That would drive me nuts.
My Cadillac fleetwood 59 had the steering wheel thin peice broken

DUDE! I thought this was your ecto1 before conversion!!! Brother has 2!!!!!!
MM coach hog lol.
Make it as a ECTO 1A from Ghostbusters 2
