    This is pretty sweet. You mentioned not wanting make a permanent spot for the mag stop for convenience, but you could get the best of both worlds. Just add a section on the far side that has a slot that normally catches on the yellow wings, but when you twist it, it drops into place. This will make it so that it doesn't drag on the table, but it can be set with just two quick twists. With a 3d printer and a heavy fill, you should be able to make something sturdy and precise enough that it won't wobble fairly easily.

    Hahaha I love how perfectly timed your videos seem to be for my planned purchases. First, I was finally considering purchasing a good reliable (accurate fence) TableSaw. Then just a week or so earlier you’d posted your Laguna vs. Sawstop review, update, commentary thing. Which I loved and ultimately also went with the F2 just 2 weeks or so later! And have been wicked happy with it!
    Now, you make a video that includes some good (accurate but not outrageously expensive) setup blocks! When not just 4 hours earlier I’d finally pulled the trigger on a set from Amazon that ironically cost near the exact same amount plus or minus a few cents. But I love the case these come in WAAAY more. Haha so I bought these now and will return the ones I went with.
    Thanks again. Always love the things you do. Would love to see a follow-up Laguna saw review one of these days.

    Really cool upgrade, Travis~! I must've seen/imagined it wrong from the beginning, but if you swapped the positions of the 1-2-3 block and the mag switch (or similar design mod) and made a caddy for the mag switch, you could activate it from it's "stored location" clearance hole to make contact with

    That's a pretty cool solution for the relevant clutter that's always on or near the fence. Just curious but I wouldn't think you'd need to clamp the far end of the fence since the material is already cut at that point and the feed pressure is much closer to the front of the fence where the workpiece contacts the blade and the fence is much more rigid. There should be no feed pressure at the back of the fence under normal circumstances. I think it's recommended that the fence be set up so that it's actually a tiny bit farther away from the blade at the back end. Comments?

    Ok, this is probably not the best place for this, but I just had an idea. I can't draw but still had to share. Miter saw cabinet for small shop built like those fold up craft cabinets. Back section - about a foot wider than the miter saw on either side (3-4 foot total width), Flat back panel. Top has open shelving, then a counter for the saw with dropdown, then shelves or drawers below. On each side is a wing that is half the wideth of the back section. It is attached by hinges to the FRONT of the top shelf and the front of the bottom shelves/drawers. Top of it has another open (with small rails or doors to keep things from falling out)shelf, bottom has counter that matches with the counter on the back, and then more drawers below. All of this is on locking wheels. When closed, it forms a big box with cut outs on either side between the top shelf and the counter. When open it is a 6-8 foot miter saw station with storage.
    Ok, I got that out. I am good now. *deep breath*

    I love your 3d printer. My friend bought one and I was about to, but then I learned how long it takes. You did yours overnight, but some of his creations are taking 20-40 hours! I'll bet if you had to wait on your printer, you could have created the same thing with a block of wood and router in less time than it took you to start the printer, LOL. I love it, though. It looks great.

    • @StormGod29
      @StormGod29 2 роки тому +1

      Learning how to speed up prints is a skill unto itself. I learned early in the pandemic when I was printing face shields 24/7 for local hospitals. One shield initially took like 3 hours to print. Over the course of a week or so I was able to get that down to two shields every 30 minutes...on the same printer with the same filament. There are a huge number of optimizations possible, so don't let your friend's experience dissuade you from jumping into 3D printing!

    • @Lakusus
      @Lakusus 8 місяців тому

      @@StormGod29 What did you use for the clear part of the shield? I'm not familiar with any filament that's crystal clear like what would be needed for the vision part of the shield? Then, again, I haven't really looked, either. lol I ask because, being such a pain to put a dust mask on then a face shield with goggles and then ear protection on top of that everytime I want to use the table saw or miter saw, I thought how nice it'd be to have a clear mask that I could slip on like a helmet, but with room for the over-the-ear ear protection that I use because things stuck in my ear (like ear plugs) really irritate the heck out of my ear canals. To have the ability to plop a full-head mask on over my ear protection would save probably about 30 seconds of prep time. The old rule is true: The faster and easier it is to use PPE, the more apt we are to actually use it. So, that being said, if I could find some material to use, even as an insert (probably the only way, really), I could 3D print something for my head and affix the clear stuff onto the face opening. Any suggestions are appreciated and thanks in advance! :)

    • @StormGod29
      @StormGod29 8 місяців тому

      @@Lakusus don't get excited over a new filament, the face shields were PLA and then you slip in a sheet of transparency film to form the shield. Everyone was really printing headbands and then getting the shield from Amazon. I hear you on PPE; the easier and more comfortable the more compliance you can expect.

    • @homer009x
      @homer009x 2 роки тому

      I would say no. Look into alternatives from harvey, grizzly or king Canada depending what’s available in your area. They all offer the same 2hp cabinet saw in different branding made in the same factory in Taiwan. Brand doesn’t mean much as they aren’t doing any engineering or design, they are just picking specs and features out of a catalogue.

    • @homer009x
      @homer009x 2 роки тому

      To add my personal experience, I was set on the laguna F2 until I touched it in person next to the king Canada. The laguna was much less stout in every aspect but had a nicer look and better throat plate.
      I was so turned off by the laguna (especially being the more expensive choice) that I decided to wait 4 weeks for the king Canada saw even though the laguna was available same day.
      In the end, thanks to covid, the king Canada was delayed further and that pushed me to a sawstop 3hp PCS. I don’t regret it at all, but do understand it’s not affordable for everyone.

    • @ShopNation
      @ShopNation  2 роки тому

      I was not thinking permanent attachment but a cut out so it would be held in place by sides and you could lift it out vertically. Similar to the spot you made for it on the organizer. That way when you need to hold some art work up on the fridge it just lifts out.

    Don't most table saws have an adjustment screw/bolt to tighten the fence lock down? That amount of play having to necessitate a Mag-switch block is a deal breaker for that saw. Seriously, if that's the best it can do, a major design flaw on a major component like the fence = find a better saw. And no, not gonna look for a good aftermarket fence to fix the manufacture's poor design. Nice design on the accessory tray.

      I wouldn't quite go that far...yes the fence flex is a concern but not scam-worthy

      His video on the Laguna was VERY clear that he wasn't endorsing or even reviewing it yet, just explaining why he went that way. I bought a Laguna for a lot of the same reasons he listed and though there are limitations I would neither blame him nor regret my purchase. (Also Laguna support has been stellar when you reach out to them).

      The fence is literally the most important part of the saw. If it flexes the saw isn’t worth the price tag.

      @@StuartGeers does their customer support sent a fence that doesn’t flex when you call with concerns? It isn’t a cheap saw, you should not be getting flex like that when you spend that kind of money. They should stick to bandsaws.

      The laguna fence is definitely undersized vs competing saws in the same price range. I guess it was a trade off for the fancy looks and paint.
