I loved what Sandra said about understanding the older generations mindset. How they didn't come from a disposable society and how they had to save up to buy these things. That is very true and important to remember. My grandmother had the same furniture that she bought as a newlywed couple. They bought the best things they could at the time and they ended up keeping them their entire life. Things were also made a lot better, solid wood etc.

I've been getting rid of things for two years to prepare for our eventual downsize. Of course, I didn't do this non-stop. I tackled one cupboard, drawer, cabinet, box, etc. at a time. Two summers ago, all I worked on was two things: digitizing papers I want to keep and uploading nearly 500 CDs. (I did this a little bit each evening, over several months.) One thing I've noticed through this process is that our big house feels a lot better with less stuff in it. And so far, we haven't missed a thing we've gotten rid of. We will be downsizing to a space that is 1/3 of our current square footage this spring. So, between now and then, I've got to finish the rest. I'm glad I got an early start on this. There was a lot of emotional and physical work that I had to go through. I wouldn't have wanted to do this under time pressure. With the benefit of time on my side, I've been able to ensure that everything we gave away ended up in the right hands.

Went through something like this when my mom and dad moved from a nearly 4,000sq ft home to 1,500sq ft. I kept trying to use logic to tell her all the furniture she was trying to take wouldn't fit. She kept getting upset. I told her to measure and she really got upset. When I left her alone about it, she came to the conclusion on her own that not everything would fit. I realize now it must have been overwhelming to change your life so drastically. Those things represented the home they had built over the years. She's ok now.

Starting early is SO important, a full year before the move, bit by bit and everyone’s comfortable

Great Informative Video,, Great that the subject came up about not getting rid of things that the younger Generation, don't usually ever realize the attachment that there is to certain items. Great Video,, Short video,, yet hopefully effective concerning all the options. Have a Great Day!!

Just Me it is overwhelming. I did it and am finally ready to let go of so much stuff. It starts with a small step. One corner or one room at a time. Get help if possible, someone who is not emotionally invested in the stuff. Once you get started it is so uplifting and you feel so much freer. Start small and see what happens. Good luck

Si reduces el tamaño desde joven, puedes vivir una vida más fácil, no hace falta esperar a ser mayor para hacerlo.
