  • #TheGoodAndTheBeautiful #HomeschoolCurriculum After 7 years of homeschooling, I think we found a curriculum we are going to especially LOVE! I can't wait to share a few reasons why we decided to go with TG&TB this year! This isn't a review, but a quick flip through inside some of the materials. Later in the year, I'll do an update on how it's working for us :)

    The word cards are like what my Children have done. I like how they want you to separate the words from learning, mastered and just started (or something like that)

    So looking forward to hearing your review of The Good & The Beautiful after you’ve had a chance to use it for a while! We’ve always used Sonlight for our family’s homeschooling adventures and it has generally been a great fit for us (we’ve just begun our 9th year), but I have to admit that I’ve been eyeing The Good & The Beautiful with a lot of interest! 😊

      Hey Angela! We are about 1 month in using the curriculum and we are truly loving it! I absolutely plan to do a review! I know another UA-cam mom who switched from Sonlight to TG&TB...her channel name is Grace & Grit. You may want to check her out and hear her thoughts! Thanks so much for watching and supporting our channel

    Thank you for sharing, it would be nice to see more African American culture displayed in their history books. I do believe The Good & Beautiful are working on updating that.

    • @ThisBlendedHouse
      @ThisBlendedHouse  5 років тому +7

      We honestly haven't opened the history yet this year so I'm not sure about how much African American history is included. I know that the readers we have have very diverse illustrations :) I'm Puerto Rican and I very rarely see any Hispanic American or even Asian American people included in history books, but it doesn't bother me at all! I can always supplement with other materials if I ever feel it is lacking :)

      Yes!! I was born in Bayamon :) I do speak Spanish! My parents moved to the states when I was only 2 so I wasn't raised there, but my parents spoke mostly Spanish at home :) I am actually terrible about speaking Spanish to my kiddos, but my mom makes up for it for me, ha! Thanks for watching and subbing! xo

  • @katherynshaw6860
    @katherynshaw6860 5 років тому +1

    Thank you for sharing! I love the Good and the Beautiful also but I've only used level K Language Arts and a couple hand writings. I'm curious though, how does this compliment CC? We do CC also and I felt like I didn't need a History curriculum in addition to CC or Story of The World. This is my first year homeschooling by the way, so I'm super inexperienced.

    • @katherynshaw6860
      @katherynshaw6860 5 років тому +1

      So part of my question is, do I need more curriculum to compliment CC?

    • @ThisBlendedHouse
      @ThisBlendedHouse  5 років тому +1

      @@katherynshaw6860 You may receive different opinions on this :) I personally would not attend CC one day a week and not do anything else throughout the week. We use TGTB handwriting, Language Arts & typing. We use Horizons for math. We spend about 15 minutes every morning going over memory work and then we move into these other subjects. As CC kids move into Essentials, parents may choose to do away with other LA curriculums. And as my daughter moves into Challenge A next year, she will only use CC curriculum. The beauty of homeschooling is we are the parents and we can decide what we want our kiddos doing. There is no "wrong way" :)

    • @ThisBlendedHouse
      @ThisBlendedHouse  5 років тому +2

      I have a video on teaching with both! For struggling readers (I have one!) patience is key! Do a little bit every day. And depending how young they are, take some time off and try again in a few months. Some kiddos just aren't ready. And depending how old they are, they may need to be tested for things like dyslexia.

    • @ThisBlendedHouse
      @ThisBlendedHouse  5 років тому +1

      Hi Lydia! I also have a multi-cultural family :) I was born in Bayamon, PR to Latino parents and all of our family is from there. My husband is Caucasian. Everyone is different in the extent of diversity they desire to see in a curriculum. I know that TGTB has taken very deliberate and intentional steps to make their curriculum diverse. The Year 1 Big Book of History Stories includes the story of Anja, a German girl and the Berlin Wall, the slave trade, da Vinci who was Italian, the story of Thebes, an Egyptian city, Joan of Arc from France, and the story of Joseph who was Middle Eastern. These stories are sprinkled among many other traditional American history stories like Paul Revere, Florence Nightingale and the Wright Brothers. I am personally content with the diversity, but others may not be. That would ultimately be something that only you could answer :)

    • @ljks1755
      @ljks1755 5 років тому +1

      Home & Arrows thank you for such a thorough reply. I really do appreciate it! knowing that you are a multicultural family and that you are enjoying it, is very encouraging to me. I am middle eastern and my husband is Caucasian as well :) I think I’m going to go for it, and from what I am researching online, it seems like TGATB is set up in a way that I can always add extra readers or books about other cultures as well! Again, thank you for your reply about their library books as well :)

    What about Math

  • @Nicole-xx8js
    @Nicole-xx8js 4 роки тому

    I heard the Good and the Beautiful is a Mormon based company. What are your thoughts?

    • @McKenzieIdeality
      @McKenzieIdeality 4 роки тому +1

      The founder is LDS but the company/curriculum is run/designed by moms from many Christian denominations. LDS people are Christian and believe in the bible just like other Christians, the only difference is that they believe after Christ's resurrection that He appeared to "other sheep" in the Americas - so they have another book of scripture in their faith based around that belief. But TG&TB as a curriculum focuses on biblical principles and belief only. It is completely non-denominational. There is nothing specific from one church over the others. No added books of scripture. The curriculum board is diverse and makes it suitable for all Christian Faith's. You dont need to worry!
      Side note: LDS people are really good believing Christian people. They are often misunderstood in the Christian community and judged. They are actually very similar to many Christian faiths overall. They aren't snakes, they LOVE Jesus Christ, they LOVE the bible:)
      I hope some of this helps!

    • @Nicole-xx8js
      @Nicole-xx8js 4 роки тому +1

      Mormons/LDS are not Christians. They do not believe Jesus is God. They do not believe the Bible is accurately translated. They believe Satan is Jesus’s brother (not biblical). Yes, Mormons are good people. My husband is an ex-Mormon. I come from 3 generations of Mormons. It breaks my heart because their doctrine is pure fiction. Look into the Book of Abraham-false. Look into their belief that Native American DNA is Jewish DNA-false. They believe they will become god’s of their own planets. This is what they believe. This is not biblical. Mormons are told not to investigate but if it is true there should be no fear in investigating it. Only lies have to be protected and hidden...

    • @McKenzieIdeality
      @McKenzieIdeality 4 роки тому +1

      @@Nicole-xx8js Wow. Your heart has really been shut to this subject. Based on what you have said it is clear you dont fully understand the doctrine of the church. I study it everyday. I read the bible. I know about my faith, I actually study it in every aspect because of my passion for Jesus Christ... it shows that I know our church history and all its complexities more than you just based on what you have said. I dont mean that to belittle you, but I take faith very seriously and immerse myself in Jesus Christ and His teaching daily. His life. His example. And you still deny that I am Christian. The bible itself says "the son of God" over and over again and yet you judge another faith for translating that differently than you. We take that literally. We believe that Jesus is the God and creator of this world. The only difference is we believe in a Godhead instead of a trinity. And both are honestly VERY similar. Both have Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. There is anti doctrine in EVERY faith. But you choose to tear apart one that loves and worships Christ. All the things you have mentioned I have heard a thousand times and yet it does not convince me....because I KNOW that the info out there is twisted and not even historically accurate because I have actually read and studied our history. Not to mention my ancestors were there in the beginning and kept their own journals and accounts. It's also not kind, and its predatory to people who do believe in something to suggest anti literature. So what that we believe that. We believe everyone has the right to worship how they may. We dont tear apart other faiths and feed them anti stuff. You have your own agency and I have mine. The bottom line is we both believe in Christ. We bother believe He is the Savior of all. We both pray. We both have faith. We are both children of God. Jenny Phillips has done an incredible job making a curriculum that works for all denominations that believe in Christ. I just hope you can see that through your clear animosity. Also we are not "Mormons" we are latter-day saints, members of the Church of Jesus Christ. And we are 100% christian regardless of if you include us or not. Its incredible to me how aggressive people are toward my faith but accept all others without problem. We are not Lepers. And even if we were, God loved the lepers the same.
