Yes!!! Please please please do a video about homeschooling a child with special needs! Our daughter, age 5 1/2, adopted from India almost 3 years ago, has some significant developmental and cognitive delays and trying to figure out how to do school with her is incredibly difficult.
Hello! Your comment caught my eye because our story is so similar. Our daughter was adopted from India at 19 months and has pretty serious cognitive delays as well.
Homeschooling vids are some of my most favie! 💚 I really love for you to talk more about teaching history. I have *huge* concerns about whitewashing in particular!
Check out Beautiful Feet for history or even MasterBooks! I wanted to like TGATB's science units, but I didn't find them to be as rich as Apologia. My kids did enjoy the ones we did though! 😊
Love this homeschool recap video. Can’t wait for your back to school series! And I agree, Usborne books are just amazing. So well-made and a wonderful homeschool resource.
Thank you for this video, Angela! I use MathUSee and have been considering masterbooks math, so it’s good to hear your comparison. Also, I would definitely love to see a video of teaching a child with special needs! I currently homeschool our oldest (finished gr 3) and will add my 2nd (finished gr 1) in the fall. The youngest of our 4 kids has DS and, though she’s only currently 2, I like to explore my options for the (not so distant!) future. So it would be awesome to hear about that from you. 😊
How do you handle teaching different levels? Like, how does your day look? I’m looking at The Good and The Beautiful for my twins going into first grade but they will be on different levels for language arts. Does Rosie realize she’s on a lower curriculum than her brothers? I’m not sure how to handle one twin knowing he’s not able to do the same work as his twin. They were in different classes in public school last yr. I’m worried his self esteem will be squashed. I always tell him him as long as he’s doing his own best than that’s great, not to compare but that’s hard for a 7 yr old.
Tiffany, my daughter had cerebral palsy, she went to private school. My attitude with both my children was as long as they got good remarks I didn’t care about the results.
Janine Bell I’m not worried about the level he’s at. I’m worried about his self esteem knowing that his twin is able to do much more than he is able to.
My daughter always new that she would never be the level of her brother but we worked on things she was good at. English was never her good point but she was good at maths. She loved music and theatre and did those. She did English as a second language.
I just looked up the Math Lessons for a Living Education that you mentioned...I'd never heard of them! Those look great! Might have to try that for my little guy next year. Glad you had a great time at the convention!! Hugs xo
I just ordered TGATB for our first year as homeschoolers. I found your channel when I first started pondering the idea of homeschooling. That also led me to The Sister Show. I love it btw!! Youve been an amazing help. 💜
Great video! I love what you said about TG&TB Language Arts. I was starting to feel uneasy about the level my 11-year-old son is on. But, he started out in public school, so I am filling in those gaps and giving him a strong foundation with TG&TB. It's also an excellent review for me! We love TG&TB Science Units as well. I looked up the kits to go with the units: toolboxesforteaching.com/ 💕Thanks!
I adore TGTB. It doesn't visually frustrate me to teach from. I can adjust it to my child's understanding. I never used the pre k but I would love to see your video on special needs teaching using TGTB. I hope to stick with the company because their layout is so consistent and organized.
I totally get that the sister channel doesn't work out for now, but i have to be honest...i am sooo sad-i loved you 2 together! It was so much fun and something different! Too bad, it has come to an end!
Love that you're doing more homeschool videos!! For Bible, you could look into Master Books morning basket resources. They have so many great books! Also, it seems people like their history too, if you're looking to change that. Just thoughts....love your video! :)
Love your take on choosing a level not based on grade! We just received our Level 3 for our 4th grade son and he doesn't care at all, but my own pride took a little hit! I chose to go with what was best for him and not worry about my feelings. I don't want him to struggle from the start!
For youngers grades I totally get that but my experience in high school was that we really learned the skills. where other programs I may or not retain what I was taught and apply it to a different class. Mostly my precalculus book saved my butt in college all the time and I regular loaned it out to friend who were struggling with their calc classes as a resource. Note this was the physical book version so I could resuse them and it was a one time fee at purchase. I am not sure how I would handle the online version with constant fees.
We love The Good and The Beautiful, but felt the same about the history. We are switching back to master books for that, my son seemed to do much better with it.
Angela Braniff - we loved bookshark also but it was a little too overwhelming with all the reading (for us). Masterbooks America’s Story and World’s Story is awesome and very interactive.
I love your homeschool videos! As a former homeschool kid (currently in college) i love watching them and relating to some things. Would love to see more!!
Hi! Can you give me a little more information on the Toolbox for Teaching for The Good and The Beautiful Unity Studies? I've searched the internet but I'm not finding it. Thanks so much!
I have done several of the science units with my kiddos, and I think it would be pretty easy to make them secular since the mention of a divine creator is very minimal (and doesn't go into great detail).
@@cassandramarie8046 You are welcome! I love the science units. Although I am religious myself, I have done secular science until now because I don't like the "new earth" and "universal" models. I've even had a friend review them that has a significant science background before we went "all-in". I have been so happy with these unit studies (we completed space, introduction to energy, and half-way through the human body--which we will complete in the fall).
@@kerstinanderson6172 that's wonderful! I'm pretty sold on this curriculum, so far I have just loved it! We are an agnostic family, but I think it'll work for us until we get to the point of learning about evolution and history. Thanks for your input once again, it's very helpful! 👍😊
I absolutely love how the good and the beautiful is set up .. only thing I wish I could change would be rather than using level k than on to the numbers .. just keep it letters that way it doesn’t take a hit on the littles Confidence level. My 10 year old was like ummm I’m not this grade and we tried to explain the system and he’s like that’s nice .. I’m not this grade. The curriculum it self is amazing!! Love it 🥰
The cheating with TT....I am oblivious! Lol! Can someone tell me how?? We use it and have for two years...I know my boys are not aware of this either...yet!😉😃
I love the Good and the beautiful. It has made home schooling so easy. My friend works for them too so its been fun to hear all the projects they are working on behind the scenes. Theres lots to look forward too.
My 3rd grader who finished 2nd grade ABeka math is using Teaching Textbooks level 4. I compared all the scope and sequence of ABeka math 3 and Teachong Textbooks level 4. They are very comparable. This enables her to do lessons without Mom or me (grandma) teaching her. She found it very easy to start. 15 lesson trial is free. She always wants to do extra lessons!
I am new to both of your channels. Watched a lot of your videos, plan to binge watch one of those days. I just wanted to introduce you to other channels of large families with international adoptions and homeschooling. I enjoy watching them as well. I understand that you have very little time but maybe any of their ideas or hacks could help your family. "Knorpp and South" - they have 4 biological kids and 5 adopted from China, one with special needs, they love RVing as well, they homeschool their kids. "Our tribe of many" - family with 9 biological children (10th is on the way), both husband and wife are pastors, they homeschool the kids, they have interesting approach to food shopping - large haul to 3 major stores monthly and small shopping for milk and produce every 2 weeks, they use a lot of on-line orders and pick-up. Sorry for such a long comment. I will be waiting for new videos on both of your channels! Good luck with new adoption!.
When my almost 2-year-old granddaughter is a little older, I plan to start TGTB preschool curriculum. I used ABeka with my older ones and though they did do OK, I think maybe it was too intense and I as too intense teaching K3 and K5 together using ABeka.
I was just wondering what made you kind of on the fence with The Good And The Beautiful History program. I’m only asking because I was thinking about using it this year for our 7th, 4th, and 3rd grader this year.
Could you link the box you mentioned where it comes with all the stuff you need for the science units, please? I tried searching for "teaching tool box" and the like, and I couldn't find anything like that. Love that idea, though! Thank you
Am so glad I came across your video this morning and Very much appreciated the information you shared. I plan to check in regularly with you SO keep up the great work....especially looking forward (and DO hope you find time) for that video on homeschooling special needs ❤ God Bless You and your Family and Thanks Again.
Do you have any dyslexic children? Good and the beautiful was difficult for us but part of that was also the level stuff, and trying to play “catch up” I preferred all about reading for reading, but I still like aspects of TGATB.
Love it when you do homeschool videos!! We switched to Master Books math for one of my daughters this year too. She is super wiggle and has a short attention span. She loved her math book this year!
I know this is old, but I cant find the link to the science kits you were speaking of. If you see this, can you tell me the website? Thanks! Love your videos.
So many questions...so do you feel that MLFE is the same set up as LOF? You mentioned using it in addition. Can you do a video of a flip through of both because it sounds like they sound apples to apples?
Are you continuing with Masterbooks for math? If so, are you doing it in addition to Life of Fred? The Good and the Beautiful math wasn't for us and Math Mammoth isn't working fully either. :/
We're in our 15th of home schooling here (5 kids, 3 have graduated). We've tried so many curriculums over the years. What I've found for math for my highly distractable child is Christian Liberty Press. They have K through 2nd grade. They use grayscale and one color so the pages aren't overwhelming. I've been very pleased with the content both in what they teach and how they present it. Just thought I'd mention that in case you need to try something else with your littles in the future. One thing I should add is that Christian Liberty press math does not come with an answer key. Even though I don't have a math brain, I've never struggled to figure out an answer for the k through second grade books but I could totally understand it being easier just to see an answer key to check their answers rather than doing the math yourself with many kiddos like you have, that might be frustrating for you. I'm not insulting your math skills at all just looking at the time factor, LOL!
Thank you for this informative overview! Seems like we have very similar homeschool curriculum choices! I am loving all of the things we have gotten from The Good & The Beautiful so far. This is our first year using their curriculum and we’ve been really enjoying the Handwriting and the Language Arts along with a handful of other supplementary materials I’ve ordered from them. I was considering their Math for my first grader, but after watching several negative UA-cam videos about it, decided to buy the same Masterbooks Math for a Living Education that you have. We are enjoying the more Charlotte Mason approach of it, but I feel like I want just a little more written practice and critical thinking than what we’ve gotten so far. So I’m planning to order a Mathematical Reasoning book for her to do as well, which I only heard about from a review I read of another parent combining the two curriculums. Are you familiar with the Mathematical Reasoning books? I’m planning to get one for my older daughter also who is doing the first level of Teaching Textbooks (which I also love).
I wasn't impressed with TGATB history either, mostly which figures/events they chose to study. The format was very interesting I thought, except the game-that was useless for us. Starting the history in 5th grade might have worked better honestly, its just a lot for littles to pay attention to.
Off- topic... but where'd you get that shirt from?? Love it. Back on topic... As a recent college grad with no kids, but a former homeschooler, I am so glad you are so fluid with curriculum. I was (and still am) very behind in math because my mom was a fan of math-u-see which worked when I was younger but as I got older didn't click. I have no clue what would've helped me have that solid foundation in math.
Could you do a more in-depth review of TGATB History and what you liked and didn’t like? Love your videos!! I am really starting to figure out what I want homeschooling to look like for my daughter when it it time for us to start.
I can really relate to art appreciation woes. I myself am that way still and I am way beyond school age! I had to laugh at your comment "It's a house, a tree." I am enjoying your vlogs. I am a retired Georgia public school first grade teacher and like learning about homeschooling. 😊
We also use the good and the beautiful. We did preschool, then primer and then Kindergarten but had to stop because it was pretty challenging compared to the level K primer and my kids got very discouraged. I do think it is a great curriculum- just the jump between primer and level K seemed to be a little too big for my kids. Glad to see that my kids weren't the only ones not on "grade level!" Keep the homeschool videos coming!
Thanks, this vlog really helped me in the curriculum decision making. Right now my oldest 2 use ACE curriculum but my 5 year old is going to need more manipulatives, and he loves stories. Still researching but I think The Good And The Beautiful may be a good fit for him.
I can’t wait for your videos on special needs! I have a daughter with ASD and ADHD so I would love to see how you work with your kids with special needs!
I’m so glad you said Jonah gets bored. My 4 year old will not sit down to do the pre-K workbook. He only wants to do the cutting part and refuses to trace anything
You are the first homeschool mom I’ve found with a child with Down Syndrome! I homeschool three boys, my oldest, 7 has Down Syndrome too. I’d love to see videos on her curriculums and pace you go at, things you’ve learned works. My son did TGTB primer last year, but a lot of it was to difficult, so this year I ordered TGTB pre-k and a lot of it is to easy. So we are also doing All About Reading, but moving at a much slower pace, with lots of review. I laminate the work sheets so he can practice them more than once. What do you use for handwriting? I did Hand Writing without Tears last year and he really struggled. So I’m doing it again same curriculum this year. It’s so hard to find good handwriting curriculum. He struggles writing letters still. I also just started using So Happy To Learn! It’s a curriculum for children with Down Syndrome! He loves it, so we add that in too. It’s great, but there isn’t a lot of structure or help, it’s all printable worksheets and reading. For math we are doing TGTB K, but I’m worried a lot of it will be to difficult. And he needs hands on for math, abstract concepts are to difficult. So you recommend a different math. I’ll let you know how math goes for this year, I also have a couple other books to add in..
Dakota Jean not sure if you are still looking but rightstart math is excellent for children with special needs.. my daughter has brain damage and we use rightstart it’s very hands on and she loves it. It’s the program that has the most manipulatives, it’s pricey at first bc of the manipulatives but cheap every year after that.
Just wanted to let you know that i love your family and especially little Rosie. I have a 4 year old girl with Down. And every time i see Rosie i can see what she will be like in a few of years.
Thank you so much for this encouraging word. I'm starting the good and the beautiful with my child this year and I was nervous about picking the right level for her. This helped calm my nerves a bit.
I would love to know what type of apps you use to reinforce there studies. My 6 year old struggles with math and following the directions for it . She needs something that will get her attention and keep it .
Thank you so much for making this video. I recently found the first one when you referenced using the good and the beautiful and I was curious what your thoughts were on it. 😊
Love you homeschool videos! I would love to see a video on the apps that you use to help reinforce their learning experience!
Home schooling is what brought me to your channels and now i watch all the videos you post on both channels! :)
Please keep doing homeschool videos ! Love them !!

I think that having kids look at art and respond to it is not just about art education it's also teaching them the skill of inferencing which helps with literacy because often when you read a book you have to infer information that isn't being directly said to you.
Yup! Also teaches them to see things from different perspectives. My daughter went to a magnet school for elementary school and they did this and asked a couple incredibly open ended questions and the responses were amazing.
Can you do a video talking about the history program and what you like and don’t like about it ?

Even though I don't have a math brain, I've never struggled to figure out an answer for the k through second grade books but I could totally understand it being easier just to see an answer key to check their answers rather than doing the math yourself with many kiddos like you have, that might be frustrating for you. I'm not insulting your math skills at all
just looking at the time factor, LOL!
We love masterbook’s math too
Thank you for your recap! I always love watching your homeschooling videos!
I would love to see the home school room and see how you have things in that area.
I can really relate to art appreciation woes. I myself am that way still and I am way beyond school age! I had to laugh at your comment "It's a house, a tree." I am enjoying your vlogs. I am a retired Georgia public school first grade teacher and like learning about homeschooling. 😊
I was born in Georgia 😊 so glad you’re here! Yes, teaching art appreciation is whole different game 😂
Love the video. I can’t find the boxed units for the science units. Can you add a link?
I don't know if you'll see this but wondering where you got your abacus from?
Love your videos❤️ Check out Memoria Press Simply Classical for your special needs kiddos. It is short, sweep but deep.
Would love a book haul! We love usborne too. Would also like videos about topics like you did before with the human body
Girl, I can haul ALL the Usborne!
@@angela.braniff Haha I'm probably not far behind you!
Thanks, this vlog really helped me in the curriculum decision making. Right now my oldest 2 use ACE curriculum but my 5 year old is going to need more manipulatives, and he loves stories. Still researching but I think The Good And The Beautiful may be a good fit for him.
I’m getting ready to purchase TGATB preschool book. Loving your videos 🙌
I can’t wait for your videos on special needs! I have a daughter with ASD and ADHD so I would love to see how you work with your kids with special needs!
I dont see a link for the teaching tool box kits you were talking about
Would you link the teaching toolboxes you talked about? Love your homeschooling videos!
Maybe it’s an “Amelia” thing. I have Amelia that can’t sit still either 😂
Love your makeup in this video! What lipstick are you wearing?
I’m so glad you said Jonah gets bored. My 4 year old will not sit down to do the pre-K workbook. He only wants to do the cutting part and refuses to trace anything
Great video! What is the name of the teaching tools kit that you spoke about with all of the items needed for the Math courses? Thank you!
It’s the program that has the most manipulatives, it’s pricey at first bc of the manipulatives but cheap every year after that.
are you doing class tests or something? and do they get a graduation or which kind do they get?
Just wanted to let you know that i love your family and especially little Rosie. I have a 4 year old girl with Down. And every time i see Rosie i can see what she will be like in a few of years.
Thank you for this video! I cannot find the link for your unit study source teaching toolbox or toolbox for teachers? I’m so intrigued. 🙂
Could you do a QandA video prehaps with your older kids to get their perspective? Also how do you do assessments?
Thanks for sharing Angela!! We started the good & the beautiful K math with our girls. Great advice/encouragement for levels;)
i love your homeschool videos and I would love to se what you are doing for this next school year. Thank-you so much for sharing with us
Absolutely LOVE the HS videos, TY
TOOLBOX FOR TEACHING IS CLOSING THEIR DOORS THE END OF DECEMBER ;(
Thank you so much for this encouraging word. I'm starting the good and the beautiful with my child this year and I was nervous about picking the right level for her. This helped calm my nerves a bit.
Great video! Do you have your girls go a grade level up for Teaching Textbooks? I have heard a lot of people go that route.
What other history curriculums have you used? Do you have any other math resources? Loved this video
I’m interested in seeing what you choose for teaching the Bible to your littles. We love The Good and the Beautiful as well!
I would love to know what type of apps you use to reinforce there studies. My 6 year old struggles with math and following the directions for it . She needs something that will get her attention and keep it .
Another math curriculum you could try is development mathematics for your older kids.
Aww why are your comments disabled on your other channel ?
Thank you so much for making this video. I recently found the first one when you referenced using the good and the beautiful and I was curious what your thoughts were on it. 😊
