this! people will say its payola but if apple really did commission them it is huge. being featured by apple is a privilege and honor because apple rarely features artists. nwjns rly caught their eyes
Totally agree with you, but unfortunately SK netizens were being so harsh on them for advertising their national brand’s (samsung) biggest competitor. It’s such a backwards mindset but I’m all in for newjeans in changing the kpop commercial game. In fact, all members are iphone users so why bother pushing a brand that they don’t use 🤷🏻♀️ same goes to other groups who were samsung’s ambassadors
The main thing that draws me to this group is that they look like theyrre genuinely HAVING FUN. Whether in the mv behind the scenes or in interviews they seem to just be having so much genuine joy. Like how in their interview with IU she was expressing how their schedules must have been at a lot for them at this age and they pretty much just went “mmmmm not really, we’re just having fun 😊”. Whenever a group explode in popularity like this the members are overwhelmed and overworked but it seems like management is doing a really good job at treating them well
Maybe they are "lying/acting" but you can truly see in their faces and body language that they are truly happy and comfortable with what they’re doing and are being treated good, and that’s what makes them so appealing
I think this also related to their stage presence as well, I love how they look like they are dancing and interacting with friends rather then just perming a somg
maybe im missing or zoned out to your video, but one thing also worth to point out is.. their dance, they interact like they are having fun. people said like "they're like bunch of friends dancing and singing."
I think I remember hearing them mention that one reason their dance is so difficult is that they are intentionally not synchronized, not doing the same thing, making it appear they are just having fun, as opposed to dancing to a choreography. Also, dunno if it was intentional or not, but Minji was surprised when she first saw… was it Ditto or OMG? The scene they are dancing in the roof, she made a mistake and they left it in the video! I don’t think any other groups have choreo mistakes in the MV that I can remember…
from a musical perspective, what New Jeans has that most other kpop has missing in the pursuit of maximalism is *groove*. New Jean's music is a polar opposite of groups like Aespa, which is musically complex, progressive, and very unexpected. While Aespa and Blackpink blasts you with "wall of sound" music that demands your attention, New Jeans music allows you to sit within the music and just vibe. You can keep New Jeans playlists on repeat without fatigue. Musically, they accomplish this by leaving a lot of *space* in their music. This can be observed by extremely tight percussion. Comparing New Jean's production to other Kpop, New Jean's producers make space by not playing too many instruments at the same time, while also cutting the transient of their individual sounds extremely short. This is especially the case in percussion, where New Jean's percussion is extremely dry (the sound, not the mood) and very rarely has reverb. New Jeans embellishes their percussion with a ton of samples and non-traditional sounds, like cow bells and blips to keep things interesting as well, yet appropriate in the modern era. A final thing they do with their percussion is that they carefully place hits sometimes behind or ahead of the beat, to give it a more human feel, although the rhythym sections are clearly programmed and extremely locked.
@@hmmmk7630 they were constantly promoted though , like having pre debut videos , songs , featuring on big artist songs and mv even in advertisements in korea

Let's talk other than music wise... NewJeans could set a trend of healthy idol environment for the future generation in kpop, here's my points of thoughts: 1. The CEO, Staff, and the members are working forward together progressively! I've always seen all of them being supportive towards each other, like i.e insta story of their staff being happy with the members, min hee jin giving prizes to all of them occasionally. Heck even the fan itself who attended music show were getting freebies and it's vary in each different day too! That of course would create such a strong bond between NJ and their fandom. 2. Phoning... this is probably one of my fave ideas tbh. Them having their own APP to be able to chat with fans, even doing live, etc. Imo it's just kind of filtering those nasty hate comments towards them, cause like you need to have a subscription to be able to talk with them. Which i guess it could be such a risk in demand wise.. but it'd create the whole members vibe to be happy as always mentally and it's just like they were living in their own world with their actual fans in it. Supportive message is really important for the idols! 3. Them having no fixed position role.. i just think that this points would really create a sparks of curiousity as what the members could offer in the future. Them having no official position is just like creating such a freedom for each members to be able to do any parts of their music in the future.. cause who knows what'd happened right? Every idol will always progressed whether vocal wise or dancing wise. Like i never even imagine Hyein out of all the members to be able to stand out as a main vocal nowadays tbh. 4. Them singing in their own tone register without being forced.. this could be a huge slap to all of those producers who majority seems to always push their idols a little bit too much and resulting them to sounds off and shaky. In the end, music with pleasant and suitable vocals will always be superior! That's just my little thoughts about them that i've reviewed over the last few months. I'm just excited to see what's more to come from NewJeans.. Cause at this point, i'm already impressed that i wouldn't be demanding too much from them, as long as the members are healthy physically and mentally, i'm happy 😊
Point 3 already happened in the 4th gen and, if I'm not wrong, the first group I saw with no fixed positions is LOONA. New groups are actually removing this position of a thing, and I'm glad 'cause it doesn't really make sense to me lmao (and causes a lot of "wars" within the fandoms). This also explains why they prefer referring themselves as "all-rounder" groups. I'm sure there are also boy groups with no positions like TXT. Once again, I'm glad the "roles" in a group (except the leader one) are slowly leaving lol.
NewJeans gets me excited about Kpop again. F(x) used to be my fave girl group, but the world was not ready for them and they debuted way too early, and to me, it feels like NewJeans has taken up the torch of f(x). Seeing as both groups are Min Hee Jin’s babies, it’s truly beautiful to see that NJ will be able to grow so well under MHJ’s tutelage.
OMG f(x) was my favorite group musically too! i'm so happy someone else made the connection that nj is like a reincarnation of f(x) bc you are right: they are really ahead of their fucking time. i wish they debuted in this era bc the bangers they gave us really stood the rest of time.
i definitely see the connection aesthetically, but tbh newjeans's music isn't edgy enough to consider them the new f(x)...i would put the "new f(x)" label on billlie imo. i see nj more as what jyp intended wonder girls to be!! girls with youthful energy making refreshing pop music that's very marketable in the west :) omg is to gen z what tell me was to millennials haha
New jeans is the F(X) and Red Velvet that Minji wanted to create with her whole creativity since the beginning. But unfortunately, SM didn't let her to control the whole group management. SM wanted her to work for the concept, not for controlling the group system.
YES FINALLY SOMEONE SAID THIS. I feel Min Hee Jin’s burnout were also contributed by lack of freedom in creativity back at SM. In contrast with her managing newjeans on her own, you can see how happy she is when she finally get to do so
@@hyuncake Red Velvet could have been the biggest gg during their prime time, if only SM took them seriously. Cause the company spent so much wasted time just to get NCT the hype as much as BTS. Eventually it didn't work out. At all
It's crazy how new jeans is popping off with this concept in Kpop when in Hollywood almost all the pop girls try to achieve this relatable aesthetic them being quirky ect I mean most of the pop girls now are not the beyonce or Brittney more of a girl next door aesthetic that you see with billie and Olivia Rodrigo idk I just think this fact is very interesting and how different culture adapt to media
I initially wanted to ignore them cause of all the "minor" label. What Ador has done with them is rejuvenating! I can't help wanting to listen to their music, its so catchy! Same for their MV's. Their concepts are always fun to figure out! Refreshing take on how the future of K-pop looks on the horizon!
@@mimiasenofor real, everyone is making them out to be middle schoolers, when there are three teenage adults (two 18yos and one 19yo), one seventeen year old, and one fifteen year old. That means they'd all be in high-school or in college (as for the 18yos and 19yos).
I’m not into so much Kpop but i do really like NewJeans! If you’re into Marketing, Advertising & Arts you will appreciate this group a lot. Min Hee-Jin is a creative genius.
Wow finally someone who talked about marketing stuff, yes I'm into marketing, advertising and art and I study about Newjeans Team Production and see kpop industry in business perspective.
This. Working in the creative industry makes you appreciate this group as a whole, especially ADOR. There is just things they do that we understand better compared to others with little or no background in marketing/advertising and arts.
In my opinion, their biggest appeal is that their music is simply great. I’m only a really casual listener to kpop music, but I always come back to their songs.
Since Black Pink, that girl crash thing got so popular in my opinion. I think people have been getting bit tired with that concept, and NJ suddenly came up with totally different concepts and it was so refreshing. And the most important thing has been the songs. Just great songs. Min Hee Jin discovered great underground artists like 250 and FRNK, and let them do what they do to create such great songs after songs. Yes members of NY are charming and lovely, but it all comes down the direction of Min Hee Jin and great producers like 250 and FRNK. Pumping out a good song after a good song like Ditto, Hype boy, Attention, and OMG won’t be easily duplicated even by NJ.
finally someone who talks abt 250 and FRNK! she did such a good job in finding these guys and i'm glad i was able to find some interviews with the producers behind their sound because there's some depth that is missing when analyzing their music. it does hit the koreans in a specific type of way we cannot describe as non koreans and i find that suuuuuper cool. 250 came out with an album called ppong and MAN is it emotional. glad he won producer of the year!
When you're on top, there are always copy cats. Even some of BP's peer groups switched their image from trying to be another SNSD to more BP (mainly looking at Red Velvet). At least I can see a market for NJ and Ive with the younger generation, but not for grown adults. That was always the problem for the cutesy groups is that their fanbase will eventually grow up and grow out of them. BP haters only talk about their title tracks and ignore the fact that a majority of their songs don't follow the same "formula" and vary greatly. Shutdown is supposed to closed the door on their previous discography and open their upcoming music to a much different approach but still be them...probably with a variety of Western producers and collabs.
@@marksmith8210 Plenty of groups went girl crush because of BP but in what world did Red Velvet become anything like BP. They're one of the most original groups ever in kpop.
@@mochibun3890 1...they are not that original. 2...any group that puts out a song like Red Flavor kind of makes it tough to view what they've put out the past few years as either original or theirs. Both eras seem to be following the lead of others. They're closer to GIdle really than BP now but they started as an SNSD 2.0 competing directly with Twice. I like them individually, but SM is really a mess whem it comes to branding them as a group.
imo its because new jeans does not feel like a kpop group (this isnt a bad thing) they take more inspo and reference western culture and execute it perfectly / just like the original ( most if not all kpop groups reference western trends and cultures but they still feel like kpop idk how to explain this correctly) despite her controversies, mhj is very smart and knows her ways around creating concepts and knowing how to make them just right. i applaud her direction but i applaud the creative team a lot more because they are essentially the masterminds behind new jeans' character branding. i work in graphic design, and you can tell if someone is just using references as is without any depth / only scratching the surface, but new jeans' creative team and direction really understood where they wanted to go with the girls and rly understood the depth of their references and inspiration. ngl, newjeans felt very familiar to me because this was EXACTLY how i'd make a kpop group if i ever had the chance 😂 i've had some thoughts / imaginations about what kind of kpop group i would make, and i thought of the keywords youth and raw, kinda weird but i have kind of had the same idea before new jeans even debuted. so happy because the label really brought out my vision and with the "depth" i was talking about. speaking of my statement before where i said "new jeans doesnt feel like kpop", try and think if newjeans was a western/jpop/ group from any other country. their management and group format may be based on kpop, but their concept and branding would still go viral despite it not being from kpop. nwjns takes advantage of kpop's huge amount of passionate (and sometimes fanatical) fans, and takes advantage of the already existing pool of kpop groups. also, mostly only kpop groups do singing and dancing performances. but im sure if the singing and dancing was brought out on the western market with english lyrics, nwjns will still be popular and groundbreaking on the western market. you can even the current fans of new jeans are also mostly non kpop listeners, so that says a lot about my statement thst new jeans does not feel like a kpop group. they can honestly be their own independent thing.
@@Vivian-ho1xu they are kpop but they don't feel like kpop at all. They feel like the perfection of what has been going on on the west. Their sound is toned down and more simple.
I notice that their choreo is not always synchronized, which I find it fresh. They are marketed as a group but with their own individual charm. It's like breaking off from this collective cliche...allowing the audience to appreciate the individual members' quirk
I think you nailed all of this. New Jeans appeals to every girl because they dress like every girl. They have that youthful energy permeating through everything they do. The approachable cute image makes everyone feel welcome to join in as a bunny in a time when everything feels so divided and exclusive. New Jeans is light, fun, unassuming and welcoming with an energy that makes you want to jump in a join them rather than just watch and listen.
i dont even consider newjeans to be a kpop group. theyre so beyond the status quo that the genre has been for the past 20 years. theyre pushing for the industry to change and i like it
Tbh l, my cousin was playing their song one day and I told her they were a kpop group it was a whole argument until she searched them up herself. This is because their songs are easy to listen to and for everyone
The surprise no teaser debut was actually just an idea Hyein had. Min Heejin asked the members how they wanted to be introduced but Hyein just said to not have any teasers. People assume nj dont have a lot of agency and choice in their career when they do
@@hmmmk7630 Yes they did? They released teaser photos of the group and individual also multiple practice videos. The members were also teased individually for years prior to debut such as being in other idols mvs, featuring in songs, performances etc. Jennie was literally on Inkigayo with GD in 2014. Everybody knew who the members of Blackpink were well before debut. Also what's with the weird comparison? Not everything is about your fav
The fact that they just started their journey with lots of achievements already, its only 1 year since they debuted but their music song and mv is now brings you in different cinematography like in Cool with you, and Hyein voice in Get up. That's giving you Goosebumps all over your body. They're gifted just like IU said they really a good singers, watch them in Iu pallette show. This group will bring us in a new genra of kpop. I always worry about the prospect of a very successful strategy and concept becoming overdone and mass-produced. I think it works for NewJeans because it starts with them and it was built for them. But the minute other groups and companies try to replicate this concept, aesthetic, and strategy, the whole thing might crumble. You can't manufacture relatability or authenticity. You either have it or you don't. I think it's important that each group finds what works for them.
im gonna explain really quickly why they are so good: their songs are ambiguous, and they use tons of modal mixture and 7th/9th chords. it's repetitive enough to be liked by pop fans, but uses jazz harmony. other than that, their percussion is always very interesting, in contrary to other groups that use a standards 4/4 drum, slap, drum, slap beat.
I wouldn’t say their music is “ambiguous” per say, anyone who listens to R&B from the 90s/2000s knows their sound is not “original” the chords are very jazzy which is what R&B stems from. As for as the percussion goes, New jeans utilizes a genre called “Uk Garage” which has elements of R&B as I mentioned before. The drum patterns are very different then the typical “back beat” 4/4 kick sound we hear nowadays. I think in the midst of “experimental” music kpop groups have been releasing, New Jeans being one of the few girl groups that actually has memorable Melodic sounds that were used to helped a ton. Along with the repetition which keeps the song in your head. These girls will go very far.
@@Liebell82 r&b IS ambiguous. their chords are not original. that doesn't mean that are not taken from jazz harmony. ii - V - i - vi/VI is all over the place. ambiguous just means that they use chords that dont belong to the key. usually that would mean modulating, but, in pop music, it usually means 1/2 chords are from relative major/minor or closely related keys. and i know what their drum pattern is.. i know the garage style, it's getting real popular within the Y2K aesthetic that's coming back. they aren't doing anything 'new' for music, but something refreshing for kpop that we havent seen for a while. (most 2nd gen was influenced by r&b which still carried a bit until 3rd gen).
Salt on caramel is the perfect description for this group. You did a great job on this video. To give my perspective as a westerner they caught my attention because they took r&b and pop from mid 90s that was smooth and emotional, and salted it with early 2000s beats of pop and hip hop, and wrapped it in k-pop. The sound is just so appealing to multiple demographics. The marketing and promotion around this group is just genius. With their new album the really cater to their generation with shorter catchier songs and are just hypnotizing people with video after catchy video. Because they have subverted expectations and done their own thing in so many ways in just a year they can do whatever they want going forward and it will be considered a "New Jeans" sounds. To me they have the longest staying power potential of any group from this 4th generation. Oh and the fact that they got all this material out before their big appearance at Lollapalooza music festival in front of musically diverse crowd in August was also genius.
I would also mention a statement I saw someone else say, that “new jeans is manufactured to look UNmanufactured.” all this natural makeup, teens being teens, the vibe of a group of friends having fun is part of the producing team’s vision
They definitely have a new and refreshing vibe. I was never a fan of kpop but i fell in love the second i listened to them. They are also around my age so I feel like I can relate to them.
I like this concept cause I don't like kpop but love newjeans. Long story short: it feels the music is made by western, not Korea. Kpop is so formulaic and unoriginal. Newjeans is unpretentious and so smooth to listene too. They dont try to impress you with ridiculous vocal parts and cringey rap. They just...want you to be happy. Newjeans also makes me nostalgic for teenage memories that never actually existed
I love newjeans too but they have rap part in their song and their sounds is actually old 1990-2000s kpop girlsband sound and choreo too but Newjeans bring modernity to it. Newjeans is actuallly S.E.S 2.0 (popular old 2000s kpop girlsband in sm)
I'm a bit older than your average Kpop fan and didn't pay any attention to NJ until IU had them on "Palette." Then when they started singing their songs, I was surprized to realize they were doing 80s-90s smooth jazz/R&B grooves with synth flavoring, and they were doing it perfectly. Sometimes I think the Koreans love our old music more than we do here in the States, and it's wonderful to hear it given new life. It's also wonderful to be in on the beginning of their careers, and like Babymonster, I look forwards to watching them mature and grow as artists.
one day i was getting icecream for my brother and that was the day attention was released since then I have been hooked to them. they are the perfect group for me they are agound my age they feel like friends and seeing them be so successful motivates me its like I really found good friends. am glad nj debuted and became a part of my life.
NewJeans is a breath of fresh air that so many fans desperately were looking for so when something like that came on the scene everybody pounced in it. then the music just kept getting better and better, and that's how they became unstoppable.
i was really impressed when nj dropped ditto, like its so heartfelt for a song from a kpop group.when i listen to it i feel like im exploring all my flaws and tell myself "its gonna work out in the end" even the mv is that kind of mystical "familiar" yk???like u can totally tell its fiction but it still feels ordinary.i really like it...
I still remember the short period where Newjeans was an unknown name and I was like how are people not seeing them and now look how much they exploded T_T
The Music is good, that is the only thing that matters to me, which is why I liked the last two XG songs and that Cupid song. I'm just old school with tastes, the other surrounding stuff, I hardly pay attention to. If a song has appeal to an audience beyond kpop fans who follow this stuff thats good, if a group can do that consistently they will earn som public mindshare and will attract these brand deals, its simple in concept, but hard to pull off.
Honestly the last time I got so hooked on a Kpop group was about 10 years ago when I discovered Bigbang. And I guess the reason why I like Newjeans so much is how similarly bold their approach was with their music. They're like an anti-kpop, kpop group. When all is said and done, it all comes down to music and they sure as hell made quite an impression in that regard. After all you can never go wrong with having a great discography as a foundation.
Nice analysis! It's nice to come across somebody who analyses their music, concept and overall strategy objectively beyond any prejudice or convoluted ideas about the group! Hopefully this the first out of many videos to come :) My absolute fave tracks of their are OMG, Attention and ETA.
thank you! i figured that there needs to be more positive (?) analyses rather than focusing on mhj as a person. yes, she's problematic, but she isn't the first to have minors in these idol groups. that's a systemic problem that needs to be fixed by raising concerns industry wide, not just through boycotting one group!
@@nhisspace Exactly. Honestly, when you remember how old some second gen group members were and just what kind of concepts and choreos were popular in the past, you'd get a whiplash and yet, many of these old school kpop fans who hold so much criticism against NJs, look back at that era with fondness. At any rate, I truly believe that good music and popularity does turn skeptics into fans bc much of today's stanning culture is all about fomo and riding on a popular group's success haha.
I've been following pretty much every kpop gg (even nugu) since 2nd gen, purely bc I loved the performances, but never really felt enthused by the music (only 4walls and shadow by f(x) were songs I actively listened to). I didn't feel compelled to buy albums or merch. Newjeans was the first group that I was blown away by. I actually own all their albums and lightstick, something I never saw myself doing. Outside of K-pop I listen to a lot of electronic and instrumental genres that I was shocked to see NJ implementing into kpop, and well at that. The upbeat dreamy melancholy tickles my brain. The visuals are top-notch. All About Lily Chou Chou is one of my favorite films, and seeing Ditto embody those visuals sold it for me. Like Newjeans' mvs look like my entire pinterest board, which is normally devoid of kpop. Also the ASAP MV leveled it up again.
Because not only the right visulas talent and chemistry put together... But the songwriting that infuses retro Jazz inspired EURO-POP progression and style which gives us that super catchy breath fresh air while getting away from today’s common heavily produced Kpop
Everything . I normally listen to death metal but when I first heard hype boy , the dancing , the ambiance , the vibe , I was hooked . Then watching all their UA-cam studio stuff , behind the scenes , they just all seem so REAL . No fake . And truly seem to be having fun with eachother . The way the smile at eachother while dancing , they also all have liek a diffrent character sorta , they’re just all so adorable and easy to love .
Great video introduction to New Jeans for those of us who casually view their videos and sense there is something unique about them, and at times even mesmerizing (Ditto).
Gen X & Kpop fan since 1996 here. I stopped following Kpop after 2nd gen, normally having old songs on repeat. But Newjeans really pulled me in with their nostalgic vibe. It makes me feel like I'm back in the 90's listening to a (then) current gen group.
This is my first time being hooked on a kpop group. Their music makes me feel like I'm a typical teenager who enjoys life by doing fun and simple stuffs. This girl group have touched my soft side and I'm smiling all the time while watching their interviews, music videos, and performances. I feel happy right now. Their vibe is so refreshing and im looking forward to discovering more from them. Gosh this is really my first time get excited and giddy about a kpop group. I'm so freaking happyyyy.
To me, NewJeans has that kind of vibe that can make us relate to them on a friendship level. Especially with Ditto and their music videos, people can feel like they're in the Ditto school universe
One thing about new jeans is that not only the members of the group are talented but even the team behind them , i know this goes for a lot of groups but new jeans mangement and creative team is just top notch
Talk about their details and storytelling in their mvs, tho. It just makes u want to know what happened and get u thinking u want more, lol. It just hit different from other group mvs.
Another small detail that you sort of touched on was the amount of english lyrics. Three of the five members (Minji, Hanni, and Danielle) are fluent in English, and the other two (Haerin and Hyein) are somewhat proficient (not fluent) in English. As a result, when they sing the english lyrics in their songs, their pronunciations are really strong, which is very attractive to a western audience. For example, "Cheer Up" by Twice is not immediately understood by Western audiences because of the group's poor pronunciation of the english words "Cheer Up". Of course, over time, this hasn't really affected Twice due to the cute dance performance of the song as well as their marketing in general. But my point is, that moving forward, the fact that the group is not shy with English will open up so many opportunities for them. They already have brand deals with Coca-Cola, Apple, Chanel, Gucci, Armani, Burberry, Dior, Louis Vuitton, etc. They also did a collab with Warner Bros with Powerpuff Girls, where, as a millenial who grew up on that, I was very pleasantly shocked. PS: Great analysis video/deep dive. My favorite NJ song is OMG.
I never liked KPop. I felt like it was overhyped and just had a bunch of nonstop in your face music that sounded repetitive. There has been a few songs that I liked but I would never considered myself a fan. Up until November of last year, I heard ETA and I was hooked. I got obsessed with the song, the jersey club inspired beat seeing as I’m from the east side of America. Then I started getting curious about the rest of their music since I am a producer. I ended up falling in love with all of their songs. What’s crazy is that I remember hearing Super Shy and absolutely hating it, but after getting to listen to the other songs and getting obsessed with the members, it grew on me. NewJeans is the group that has officially gotten me into KPop and currently are my favorite group. I haven’t liked a girl group since Fifth Harmony so this means a lot to me
Yeah I use to not really pay attention to kpop. I preferred gangster rap and heavy metal. Then I heard NewJeans and I’m literally hooked. I’m flying from California to Chicago JUST to see THEM at Loolapalooza.
they become Artist of the year in 2023 for Mama & MMA awards...winning a total of 7 Daesangs in less than 2 years leading the 4th Gen group ....becoming a big powerhouse name❤❤
I think she’s just edgy and a lot of stuff has been mistranslated. Idk I kinda think that if the male ceos get a pass, I’m at least willing to give her a chance until the newji girls are proven to be mistreated. So far they seem to be handled well.
There’s nothing more weird about min heejin that jyp yg and many other entertainment ceo, y’all just pick and choose. Plus most the things y’all accused her off were denied by the agency and the girls themselves and were misunderstandings created by y’all. In fact they did way more good to newjeans than groups in other entertainment company, giving them money a month after debut, letting them have their own separate platform, having protective outfits on stages, giving them gifts and showering them with love and good rest, she takes care of them like her daughters and she did way more good to them than y’all faves ceos.
I think the reason they're music is appealing is because they stray away from that EDM sound a lot a lot of groups steer to. Also a lot of K-Pop is loud, it's gets exhausting fast.
Yup understand how unique new jeans like..they’re the first K-pop group to do the things they’re doing right now! I swear they are something else I don’t how to explain it😭
Im a 43 yo m , I picked up on this group from a 20yo f colleague , we were working together in London and my first comment to her when she put on "new jeans" was "Is this a new UK garage tune?" (look it up from 20 years ago, it emerged from the London underground music club scene). My point is, everyone my age I've shown songs like "new jeans/super shy/hype boy" have loved it. it's very retro yet fresh at the same time so it's going to reach older ears as well, anyone who used to go clubbing in the late 90s early 2000s
Their dance choreo is so unique in kpop nowadays, they have their unique style of dance with more fun, look at each other, hip hop moove mix with fun moove, i can say, this is Newjeans style of choreo! when people spoiled super shy choreo before super shy was released, i can tell this is Newjeans style of choreo
great analysis. The strategy of Min Hee Jin is awesome! To add to your analysis, I think their appeal is transcendent, It's UNIVERSAL. Not only die hard kpop fans can enjoy their music but a wide range of market. I see a lot of 30+ and above enjoying their music as well.
In 2018 when gen 3 was approaching its later years I ended up naturally falling off the kpop bandwagon. I never thought I'd find a group again to make me feel the magic that the wonder girls, girls generation, red velvet, twice, exo, seventeen, bts, got7, and some standalone artists like iu, hyuna, and taeyeon made me feel as a kid. But new jeans takes it to a whole new level for me. After some 2018 comebacks that made me think my time as a kpop stan was ending forever and the genre was outgrowing me, new jeans has suddenly pulled me back in full force. i'm so captivated and excited to see what's next!
People try so hard to treat newjeans terrible because theyre underaged (which is ridiculous because it happens in the industry all the time) but theyre truly ground breaking no other groups have taken such a humble approach to music or concepts and they do it right every single time
Hasn't pure and simple been like the go to way to debut most girl groups? Girls Generation and Wonder Girls rose to stardom with that very concept, and then matured into the bigger concepts as they aged. I'd actually say a group like LOONA subverted expectations by releasing solos before the group debut, but it didnt lead them to huge success. I think you're spot on though with New Jeans going back to the roots of Kpop from the late 90's and early 00's, and how that is probably contributing greatly to their success in capturing a wide age demographic. Also in how they are presented as very relatable to current teenagers. I'd also add that they are probably benefiting from market fatigue on the strong girl crush concepts that everyone has been doing since really 2NE1, but especially since Blackpink exploded in success with it. The timing was right for a throw back to something more simple and innocent.
I'm mostly a fan of punk and hardcore music, but also have a love for great female vocals (in terms of more recent stuff, I love Japanese Breakfast and Beabadoobee). I've come across that OMG song a few times and it always ends up getting stuck in my head. Based on that I gave the new New Jeans EP a listen and have found it pretty great with more of a chill vibe than other K-Pop I have heard. The singing is also very nice on it. All of that is to say; watching/listening to the "Cool With You" It's Live video a few times made the algorithm direct me to your video. Knowing next to nothing about K-Pop it was nice to gain a little understanding about how the genre works. Other thoughts: 1) I love coming across content where someone is very enthusiastic and knowledgable about something that I know little about 2) I'm a 35 year old white dude lol and I can agree that this stuff has a very Y2K feel to it, which is probably why I can connect with it. 3) ASAP is one of the weirdest simple song structures I have heard in a pop song 4) Sorry, this is the longest comment ever.
Their videos are much more than the studio ones we see in Kpop and seem more like indie movies. They feel like great videos by international groups in the 80s and 90s. And they also have multiple stories (like Cool With You Part 1 and Part 2) and Ditto. Ditto containing a very profound message about the nature of Kpop idol worship.
LS is also like your everyday Kpop: high note and cringey rap. Nothing new. What "fresh take" about them? They have the same formula as any Kpop girlgroup
@@yellowlightnightMusic probably true even if they are the only HyBE female group Bang Si Hyuk produces and the only hybe girl group that Bang Pd is heavily involved in. FYI. For fresh take it’s their concept it’s beyond typical girl crush and female empowerment. Name a Kpop girl group who made waves on their work out. le Sserafim workout is everywhere. name a girl group whose workout is effective and being followed. Name a girl group in 4th gen better styled and an advocate for being fit
I have been around since tvxq, snsd and super junior. And just like you i am not easily impressed anymore. But new jeans has me bobbing my head when listening to their music and enjoying their performances. They are one of the few groups that I actually save in my playlist’s. They dont have a typical girl group concept and their songs have like a dreamy vibe on them. I love how they used British grime with cool with you.
They bring me faith in why I fell in love with K-pop in the first place. The music. The catchy, fun, and easy-to-sing-along kind of music. K-pop these days almost abandon the "good music" part and only focus on the tiring, complex choreography and idol's visuals. No need for an "out of the world" concept, sparkly outfit, expensive mv, or noisy music with too much rap within a song for an artist to be successful in Korea. There is a reason why Taylor Swift is the biggest pop star in the world right now without the need to be able to reach a whistle note or do acrobatic choreography. It's all about the music. A good one. Min Heejin understood the assignment.
From what i see what makes newjeans special is the fact that every single thing about them *stands out* The beats in the music is different compared to most kpop groups Their song structure is different compared to other kpop groups Their choreographies are more groovy and has them interacting with each other (as if youre vibing with your friends in a pajama party) WHILE being complex at the same time (footwork) Their makeup and styling is simple compared to bold and loud which is often what kpop is known for In their mv/storylines they're not the only main characters sometimes they're not the main characters at all They have Side A and Side B to showcase same plot from different perspective Even their albums? The packaging i mean.. A lot of thought is put into it i feel like I'm not a stan but one of their recent album had a beach bag version or something.. Like...an album in a bag? I don't think I've seen other kpop groups do something like this Some other factors : Timing - the fact that everyone in the kpop community around mid 2021 was kind of tired of the girl crush sound and dark aesthetics... Sure some mid/small company ggs were doing brighter sounds like weeekly or stayc but yeah no Big company group did this.. At this same time the Y2K sound and aesthetic was slowly coming back and ADOR or atleast Hybe could read this well (since im engene i can prove this by saying how Enhypen released Blessed-Cursed which was an era literally defined by the 90s-2000s boygroup from the sound to the music video itself) so they shoot their shot at the perfect time Hybe is good at reading /predicting the market/general public The fact that they're from a big company - they have budget to pull off all of this.. To invest in good /unique song writers, producers, mv directors etc They're good at marketing newjeans... To be able to get them all these deals, Lollapalooza performance etc...They're doing what companies like Cube Or SM cannot do well (even if their ggs are so talented they dont care about pushing them forward at all which is sad) Even if I'm not a fan i enjoy some of their songs and i wish them good luck in their careers.. And i hope that they'll be okay in the industry since they're so young rn Also another thing that somebody in the comments pointed out and which i thought was interesting is that ALL NJ members visuals fit their concept perfectly... Nobody's visual looks out of place? In the sense that since their aesthetic is bright and cute all the members fit it well unlike most groups where theres at least one member with the "sharp" features or "girl crush" type of visual.
For me, new jeans feels like an actual girl group, not just a K-pop girl group. They have a distinct identity and sound that can’t be imitated. It’s refreshing and innovative. The sound is trendy, but it’s done in a way that elevates the genre rather than follows it.
As an outsider that has over the years seen & heard lots and lots of kpop I can give you an observation of what separates Newjeans from all others, including Leserafim. Honesty. Consider Attention, you see a bunch of young women singing and dancing and honestly asking for attention. All girls and young women(and women) want attention, but most are never honest about it, especially on stage and especially so in kpop. Then came Cookie, that was a bit controversial because of the girls young age, but mostly because it hits hard into the minds of thirsty kpop fans. Then it was Hurt that many never cared about but says a lot more about the woman producer behind the scenes. Abd in the end Hypeboy. Where they honestly admit theres this boy that has that chemistry and makes them all hyped up. Nothing malicious in it or having all that animosity or making enemies of opposite sex, just a simple statement by honest group of young ladies.
I don't think this is quite mentioned a lot but usually kpop groups are focused on producing great singles, while in the case of New Jeans they are an album-oriented group. I dont know if I'm making any sense, other artists like New Jeans that are focus on producing great albums rather than singles would be Lana del Rey, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles etc. Single oriented would be some Nct, Twice, Red Velvet, etc albums (note how i said "some" lmao). Some albums in the kpop industry sound so incoherent between the mood and style of the songs, they put the single banger on it and 6 filler songs that they found in their archives, doesn't even matter if it's coherent with the concept of the album or the sound of it. Meanwhile, the songs in an album oriented artist have a consistent sound, vibe and theme and some of the songs doesn't even need an mv for them to turn into a fan favorite, very popular and streamed. I love that about New Jeans, that I can dive into their EPs enjoying all of their content, there are no skips.
I love Newjeans but i don't agree, Newjeans isn't album oriented, they're more single or ep oriented but they didn't produce a full album like Twice etc
The thing I love about New Jeans is that everything about them from their songs to their music videos to their concept to even their own visuals and personalities, is youthful, fun and pretty. Their simplicity is refreshing especially in an era where experimental sounds and concepts seem to be common. Someone mentioned that even in their debut, none of the members died their hair or had any crazy, funky hairstyles. Again this adds to how refreshing and natural they are. They are true to themselves. You can even feel it in their music. Their music has their name written all over it. It feels like their songs, their creation. With other groups it just feels like they were given a song to perform and they completed the task. New Jeans' music feels like the girls were actually hands on and involved in the song-making process and the fact that 4/5 members are songwriters for their songs just makes it better. You can even tell from the way they love and talk about their music, that is their baby. So even their music feels true to them. When Hype Boy came out with multiple music videos, I was thinking these girls really do not care about views and THAT is the thing about them. Nothing feels forced, nothing feels performative. They are what they seem, a group of young girls just having fun, enjoying life and making great music. The girls are funny and talented and get along so well so the secret is just be AUTHENTIC, be true to yourself in every way and make music that is enjoyable.
I'm not even a member of the fandom and I know next to nothing about the group other than Hanni being Vietnamese. But the fact that I know all of their title tracks and I love them speaks to the quality. Their music is always fun and at the right energy. NewJeans and XG dominate my girl group mindspace these days.
I discovered NewJeans last year in the summer (thank you Spotify for the daily mix playlist!!). When I heard Attention for the first time it was so different, but so good! I was hooked right away!
For me the reason newjeans is doing so well: 1. The music is good, all across the board. Their vocals are great and the production is 90's/Uk garage of the 2000s which NO kpop group did before 2. The fresh creative concepts. They have side A/B videos to showcase a story from different perspectives 3. Breaking the fourth wall, they aren't the stars of the videos they are always observing or taking part of the story 4. The members have great chemistry together and can stand out alone 5. Great visual direction 6. The members are very young and in Korea youth is something they treasure.
they literally have a iPhone commercial like that’s so big for them to only be rookies
fr it's super cool! and it's always unexpected too like the WORK they put into these girls!
Right !! They will be going places
this! people will say its payola but if apple really did commission them it is huge. being featured by apple is a privilege and honor because apple rarely features artists. nwjns rly

Totally agree with you, but unfortunately SK netizens were being so harsh on them for advertising their national brand’s (samsung) biggest competitor. It’s such a backwards mindset but I’m all in for newjeans in changing the kpop commercial game. In fact, all members are iphone users so why bother pushing a brand that they don’t use 🤷🏻♀️ same goes to other groups who were samsung’s ambassadors
woah i had no idea this was happening? i mean it just fits bc they all have iphones in these mvs like whaaaat
Whenever a group explode in popularity like this the members are overwhelmed and overworked but it seems like management is doing a really good job at treating them well
They might just be lying…
It’s called acting
Maybe they are "lying/acting" but you can truly see in their faces and body language that they are truly happy and comfortable with what they’re doing and are being treated good, and that’s what makes them so appealing
I think this also related to their stage presence as well, I love how they look like they are dancing and interacting with friends rather then just perming a somg
they just seem so genuine and not like the stereotype, that does have a lot of truth, of overworked robot idols
They are slowly becoming world wide famous. Hope some day they top the us charts
maybe im missing or zoned out to your video, but one thing also worth to point out is.. their dance, they interact like they are having fun. people said like "they're like bunch of friends dancing and singing."
i didn't mention it! but yes, that's also another appeal.
Yes totally agree, their dance makes them unique in kpop nowadays
I think I remember hearing them mention that one reason their dance is so difficult is that they are intentionally not synchronized, not doing the same thing, making it appear they are just having fun, as opposed to dancing to a choreography. Also, dunno if it was intentional or not, but Minji was surprised when she first saw… was it Ditto or OMG? The scene they are dancing in the roof, she made a mistake and they left it in the video! I don’t think any other groups have choreo mistakes in the MV that I can remember…

This is the reason why New Jeans took my first place for my FAVORITE KPOP ARTISTS! I will always support New Jeans forever ❤
hell yeah 🫂
Fr they are my ult group they will always be my favorite!! ❤️❤️
Who was ur previous first place kpop group?
from a musical perspective, what New Jeans has that most other kpop has missing in the pursuit of maximalism is *groove*.
A final thing they do with their percussion is that they carefully place hits sometimes behind or ahead of the beat, to give it a more human feel, although the rhythym sections are clearly programmed and extremely locked.
ugh yes i love this!!! thanks for explaining it in a music perspective
The fact that Aespa and Newjeans are both my favourite kpop groups and most listened to on spotify is so funny to me

Let's talk other than music wise...
NewJeans could set a trend of healthy idol environment for the future generation in kpop, here's my points of thoughts:
Thank you for mentioning hyein lol
I LOVE THIS ANALYSIS. i totally forgot the last two points when i was writing the script so thank you for supplementing it!
GOOD POINT!!👍
Point 3 already happened in the 4th gen and, if I'm not wrong, the first group I saw with no fixed positions is LOONA. New groups are actually removing this position of a thing, and I'm glad 'cause it doesn't really make sense to me lmao (and causes a lot of "wars" within the fandoms). This also explains why they prefer referring themselves as "all-rounder" groups. I'm sure there are also boy groups with no positions like TXT. Once again, I'm glad the "roles" in a group (except the leader one) are slowly leaving lol.
Last three points apply to LOONA as well
NewJeans gets me excited about Kpop again.
I really love f(x) music but why I cannot get used to nwjns music yet? Nwjns are great but why is that, i'm confused
i definitely see the connection aesthetically, but tbh newjeans's music isn't edgy enough to consider them the new f(x)...i would put the "new f(x)" label on billlie imo. i see nj more as what jyp intended wonder girls to be!! girls with youthful energy making refreshing pop music that's very marketable in the west :) omg is to gen z what tell me was to millennials haha
New jeans is the F(X) and Red Velvet that Minji wanted to create with her whole creativity since the beginning. But unfortunately, SM didn't let her to control the whole group management. SM wanted her to work for the concept, not for controlling the group system.
YESSSS someone said it!! i've been seeing that from a mile away since their debut.
YES FINALLY SOMEONE SAID THIS. I feel Min Hee Jin’s burnout were also contributed by lack of freedom in creativity back at SM. In contrast with her managing newjeans on her own, you can see how happy she is when she finally get to do so
I love F (x) concepts SO MUCH, each album and concept is incredible, meanwhile new sm groups are lacking creativity
@@jonatastentadnv yeah now i see that they are not really giving, except for aespa

@@mimiasenofor real, everyone is making them out to be middle schoolers, when there are three teenage adults (two 18yos and one 19yo), one seventeen year old, and one fifteen year old. That means they'd all be in high-school or in college (as for the 18yos and 19yos).
I'm really impressed by newji, they're one of my fav new groups, I just wish they had longer songs and that they'll give them a proper album lol
I’m not into so much Kpop but i do really like NewJeans! If you’re into Marketing, Advertising & Arts you will appreciate this group a lot. Min Hee-Jin is a creative genius.
Truuuee
Weeekly debuted with a refreshing concept similar to NJ, unfortunately they had a concept change with ven para
I like them individually, but SM is really a mess whem it comes to branding them as a group.
imo its because new jeans does not feel like a kpop group (this isnt a bad thing) they take more inspo and reference western culture and execute it perfectly / just like the original ( most if not all kpop groups reference western trends and cultures but they still feel like kpop idk how to explain this correctly) despite her controversies, mhj is very smart and knows her ways around creating concepts and knowing how to make them just right. i applaud her direction but i applaud the creative team a lot more because they are essentially the masterminds behind new jeans' character branding. i work in graphic design, and you can tell if someone is just using references as is without any depth / only scratching the surface, but new jeans' creative team and direction really understood where they wanted to go with the girls and rly understood the depth of their references and inspiration. ngl, newjeans felt very familiar to me because this was EXACTLY how i'd make a kpop group if i ever had the chance 😂 i've had some thoughts / imaginations about what kind of kpop group i would make, and i thought of the keywords youth and raw, kinda weird but i have kind of had the same idea before new jeans even debuted. so happy because the label really brought out my vision and with the "depth" i was talking about.
speaking of my statement before where i said "new jeans doesnt feel like kpop", try and think if newjeans was a western/jpop/ group from any other country. their management and group format may be based on kpop, but their concept and branding would still go viral despite it not being from kpop. nwjns takes advantage of kpop's huge amount of passionate (and sometimes fanatical) fans, and takes advantage of the already existing pool of kpop groups. also, mostly only kpop groups do singing and dancing performances. but im sure if the singing and dancing was brought out on the western market with english lyrics, nwjns will still be popular and groundbreaking on the western market. you can even the current fans of new jeans are also mostly non kpop listeners, so that says a lot about my statement thst new jeans does not feel like a kpop group. they can honestly be their own independent thing.
honestly idk if you can consider nwjns kpop anymore (again this isnt a bad nor good thing) im just waiting to see whats next for them.

I notice that their choreo is not always synchronized, which I find it fresh. They are marketed as a group but with their own individual charm. It's like breaking off from this collective cliche...allowing the audience to appreciate the individual members' quirk

I think it's important that each group finds what works for them.
im gonna explain really quickly why they are so good:
their songs are ambiguous, and they use tons of modal mixture and 7th/9th chords. it's repetitive enough to be liked by pop fans, but uses jazz harmony. other than that, their percussion is always very interesting, in contrary to other groups that use a standards 4/4 drum, slap, drum, slap beat.
I would also mention a statement I saw someone else say, that “new jeans is manufactured to look UNmanufactured.” all this natural makeup, teens being teens, the vibe of a group of friends having fun is part of the producing team’s vision
nice breakdown :) they’re truly a breath of fresh air and i can’t wait to see more from them
They definitely have a new and refreshing vibe. I was never a fan of kpop but i fell in love the second i listened to them. They are also around my age so I feel like I can relate to them.
Well done. Ditto is my favorite music video, thanks to the interesting story(ies?) it depicts. My fav song overall has been Attention.
You'd love predebut Loona!!
But yet NewJeans is also popular in South Korea
cuz they're so fresh and so clean!
It's also wonderful to be in on the beginning of their careers, and like Babymonster, I look forwards to watching them mature and grow as artists.
they're genuinely the face of a new era of kpop, they're not just a group, but a sensation.
one day i was getting icecream for my brother and that was the day attention was released since then I have been hooked to them. they are the perfect group for me they are agound my age they feel like friends and seeing them be so successful motivates me its like I really found good friends. am glad nj debuted and became a part of my life.
NewJeans is a breath of fresh air that so many fans desperately were looking for so when something like that came on the scene everybody pounced in it. then the music just kept getting better and better, and that's how they became unstoppable.
Preach my sister, we are all here for the era of NewJeans because things will never be the same again for kpop after them!
Their music is just really fucking good. The members are talented and have nice personalities. Their concept is modern. I think that’s all it took.
they re the reason i got back into kpop, theyre just too good
SAME OMG
i was really impressed when nj dropped ditto, like its so heartfelt for a song from a kpop group.when i listen to it i feel like im exploring all my flaws and tell myself "its gonna work out in the end" even the mv is that kind of mystical "familiar" yk???like u can totally tell its fiction but it still feels ordinary.i really like it...
I still remember the short period where Newjeans was an unknown name and I was like how are people not seeing them and now look how much they exploded T_T
Lol when the hell was this? 😂
@@DUNGSTAprobably in the first 30 min. after the MV release
@@juliorimes844 30 minutes lol I don’t remember well but it was at least days
The Music is good, that is the only thing that matters to me, which is why I liked the last two XG songs and that Cupid song. I'm just old school with tastes, the other surrounding stuff, I hardly pay attention to. If a song has appeal to an audience beyond kpop fans who follow this stuff thats good, if a group can do that consistently they will earn som public mindshare and will attract these brand deals, its simple in concept, but hard to pull off.
Can't wait for fiftyfifty's comeback 😍
@@DUNGSTAone hit wonders. You won’t be hearing from them for a while, if ever again 🥱
@@user-zt7os6zi2r they are a super rookie group. don't be a hater.
What I really like bout newjeans is their music feels so new but very familiar at the same time bruh...
ASAP and its MV are really something else
With all the drama with Hybe, this video provides a clear perspective to NewJeans as a group.
they seem fresh and real, unlike other commercial groups(I feel like that)
Because not only the right visulas talent and chemistry put together...
They looked normal teenagers goofing off, wholesomeness and not wearing futuristic alien stuff.
I haven’t liked a girl group since Fifth Harmony so this means a lot to me
@jasmine2026 a little bit lackluster. But supernatural is my favorite. Love How Sweet as well
Yeah I use to not really pay attention to kpop. I preferred gangster rap and heavy metal. Then I heard NewJeans and I’m literally hooked. I’m flying from California to Chicago JUST to see THEM at Loolapalooza.
they become Artist of the year in 2023 for Mama & MMA awards...winning a total of 7 Daesangs in less than 2 years leading the 4th Gen group ....becoming a big powerhouse name❤❤
star wars subverts ecpectations 13:17 this is so cool 14:03 we are all in alignment
Even though Min Heejin is super weird
She is a genius
I think she’s just edgy and a lot of stuff has been mistranslated. Idk I kinda think that if the male ceos get a pass, I’m at least willing to give her a chance until the newji girls are proven to be mistreated. So far they seem to be handled well.
I honestly think she's an occultist. This is not a knock
Creative artists are
There’s nothing more weird about min heejin that jyp yg and many other entertainment ceo, y’all just pick and choose.
@@jennkth8579 they are all super weird
Just because she is on their level doesn’t mean she is not weird
Newjeans have accomplished so much in just 1 year which is amazing!!
NewJeans and Min Heejin are doing a great job honestly. I hope they keep releasing good music
People try so hard to treat newjeans terrible because theyre underaged (which is ridiculous because it happens in the industry all the time) but theyre truly ground breaking no other groups have taken such a humble approach to music or concepts and they do it right every single time
Cool With You has taken over as number one song for me :)
Gifted girls, Simple and effective music, and Great team behind
They're really good. I'm not a fan of KPOP at all but I got hooked to NewJeans. Fresh music, unique style.
min hee jin has stated that it was hyein suggestion to not do teasers.
Other thoughts:
1) I love coming across content where someone is very enthusiastic and knowledgable about something that I know little about
2) I'm a 35 year old white dude lol and I can agree that this stuff has a very Y2K feel to it, which is probably why I can connect with it.
3) ASAP is one of the weirdest simple song structures I have heard in a pop song
4) Sorry, this is the longest comment ever.
Min heejin is a damn genius but omg she’s weird
Their videos are much more than the studio ones we see in Kpop and seem more like indie movies. They feel like great videos by international groups in the 80s and 90s. And they also have multiple stories (like Cool With You Part 1 and Part 2) and Ditto. Ditto containing a very profound message about the nature of Kpop idol worship.
I enjoyed your deep analysis video, I would love to see more !!
Thank you!
Newjeans and le sserafim are new and fresh take on kpop for this generation. I'm hype on the upcoming production
LS is also like your everyday Kpop: high note and cringey rap. Nothing new. What "fresh take" about them? They have the same formula as any Kpop girlgroup
@@yellowlightnight think you can do better? By all means producer. Do better than Le sserafim. I'll wait
A good one. Min Heejin understood the assignment.
i love watching them dance. they look like they’re having so much fun
NewJeans feels organic in a world of processed entertainment. And a lot of people had enough of that. Easy.
From what i see what makes newjeans special is the fact that every single thing about them *stands out*
The beats in the music is different compared to most kpop groups
Their song structure is different compared to other kpop groups
Their choreographies are more groovy and has them interacting with each other (as if youre vibing with your friends in a pajama party) WHILE being complex at the same time (footwork)
Their makeup and styling is simple compared to bold and loud which is often what kpop is known for
In their mv/storylines they're not the only main characters sometimes they're not the main characters at all
They have Side A and Side B to showcase same plot from different perspective
Even their albums? The packaging i mean.. A lot of thought is put into it i feel like I'm not a stan but one of their recent album had a beach bag version or something.. Like...an album in a bag? I don't think I've seen other kpop groups do something like this
Some other factors :
Timing - the fact that everyone in the kpop community around mid 2021 was kind of tired of the girl crush sound and dark aesthetics... Sure some mid/small company ggs were doing brighter sounds like weeekly or stayc but yeah no Big company group did this.. At this same time the Y2K sound and aesthetic was slowly coming back and ADOR or atleast Hybe could read this well (since im engene i can prove this by saying how Enhypen released Blessed-Cursed which was an era literally defined by the 90s-2000s boygroup from the sound to the music video itself) so they shoot their shot at the perfect time
Hybe is good at reading /predicting the market/general public
The fact that they're from a big company - they have budget to pull off all of this..
To invest in good /unique song writers, producers, mv directors etc
They're good at marketing newjeans... To be able to get them all these deals, Lollapalooza performance etc...They're doing what companies like Cube Or SM cannot do well (even if their ggs are so talented they dont care about pushing them forward at all which is sad)
Even if I'm not a fan i enjoy some of their songs and i wish them good luck in their careers.. And i hope that they'll be okay in the industry since they're so young rn
Also another thing that somebody in the comments pointed out and which i thought was interesting is that ALL NJ members visuals fit their concept perfectly... Nobody's visual looks out of place? In the sense that since their aesthetic is bright and cute all the members fit it well unlike most groups where theres at least one member with the "sharp" features or "girl crush" type of visual.
I saw Super Shy like 3 weeks ago and loved it. I'm a grown ass man but totally fan boying over them now! Thanks for the awesome video.
@@newjeansfan238 ohhh that's what I meant ep/album oriented vs single oriented sorry T-T
Honestly im so glad to be a bunnie cuz i love newjeans and their music is so soothing. They are really creative especially on ads AND music!
the audio quality makes me feel like my friend is catching me up to newjeans over the phone. and honestly i don't hate it. lol
LOOOOOOOOL
I discovered NewJeans last year in the summer (thank you Spotify for the daily mix playlist!!). When I heard Attention for the first time it was so different, but so good! I was hooked right away!
Newjeans 👑👑👑👑
For me the reason newjeans is doing so well:
1. The music is good, all across the board. Their vocals are great and the production is 90's/Uk garage of the 2000s which NO kpop group did before
2. The fresh creative concepts. They have side A/B videos to showcase a story from different perspectives
3. Breaking the fourth wall, they aren't the stars of the videos they are always observing or taking part of the story
4. The members have great chemistry together and can stand out alone
5. Great visual direction
6. The members are very young and in Korea youth is something they treasure.
The music speaks for itself ❤
