    I really like the step by step, detailed procedure of the presentation. This is the KEY to skipping, (including the shape of the lure). Best tips on the tube that get right to the point.

    That’s an excellent intro to skipping a jig. I started learning this last summer and really committed a lot of time to it. Had a lot of backlashes early on but as the summer went by it got to be a normal routine with very rare backlash. Definitely a great feeling to put that lure under overhanging branches, docks, and areas I would have totally avoided in the past. Heck sometimes when I’m fishing rocks with a crank bait I will finish off my day with some jig skipping just because it’s fun and keeps me in “tune”

    Comparing skipping to hitting a baseball is the best piece of advice I've honestly heard. I seriously feel like I'm going to improve on my skipping after this video (and I'm not bad). Also finishing your retrieve after a backlash is just phenomenal advice

    It’s my opinion that no jig skips better than the 1/2 oz Denny Brawer structure jig. Use 25 lb test to cut down over spool. I have a fenwick pole that’s like a pool stick, good for nothing else , but great for the skip

    Great vid! You mentioned setup one time, but what type rod and reel do you recommend? Length, stiffness, ratio, etc...

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  2 роки тому +2

      My current setup is a 7’2” MH power rated rod with an extra fast action. I have it paired with the Lew’s SP skipping and pitching reel. It is a high speed gear ratio.

    Excellent teaching video!!!👊🏻 Good instructions on what & how to skip a jig!!👍🏻 I use a 7'3" MH ModF rod do you think this is the right rod for this application? I've had success with it but wanted your opinion. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors

      @@Eyesofthasouth Thank you! It really adds another dimension to how many fish you can get that lure in front of and is so satisfying when that bait skips under something and the line takes off. Good luck!

      Steve Rogers Outdoors I’ve been practicing the past few times on the water, when the fish seem really turned off. Lol. Told myself this is the perfect time to put in a few hours of practice. And your right, a sense of satisfaction when you start dialing it in and start getting more skips than backlashes haha... I feel my 7 footer is a little to long for me right now. Gonna try a 6’8 or 6’10. Thanks Again

    Are you thumbing the spool at all while skipping?

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      Usually only during the last half of the cast. If I'm really having trouble on a particular day I will keep it there through the entire cast.

    On a Lews BB1 for crankbaits, there is like 27 settings on the brake system. Where to start?

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  Рік тому

      Great question. This is how I start off. Turn the brake completely off. With the lure that you want to use tied on, hit the thumb bar release and adjust the spool tension knob until the lure falls slowly and when it hits the water's surface it stops without overrunning the spool. Once you have that set, put the brake system halfway and start to cast. You can then make fine adjustments one way or the other with the brake. If you change lure weights just repeat the process. I hope that makes sense.

    On the weight of the jig. You say no more than 1/2 oz. Is that total weight of jig and trailer or just the jig?

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors lunar cycles, best baits, chatter baits?, do clearer, lakes, produce more opportunities for night fishing, or bass for likely to be on structure or just suspended and open water, I can probably pick up some other topics that might be that you apart from other UA-camrs. It’s a great opportunity to showcase your experience and ability to teach. It still drives me crazy that you don’t have a lot more followers or a bigger presence on UA-cam. Let me know if you are interested in more ideas that might send you apart from other nighttime fishing videos but again it’s a heck of an opportunity, since there are so few videos that are produced well and don’t go over a lot of things that a lot of people are interested in. Again, lunar cycle, then water, quality, what do bats eat at night and what should you try to imitate, are cents more effective at night.
