My mind is blown. I remember watching Tim in his first videos, all nervous. Now look at him! Truly amazing Tim, thanks! What a bad ass video this is and so helpful. Skipping like that, smooth as butter! Once again, thanks Tactical Bassin for the awesome videos and making my life just that much better!!
I just learned to skip lures a few weeks ago. The biggest help for me I only saw mentioned once in all the different videos I've watched on skipping. Leave about 2 to 2.5 feet of line out between your lure and the rod tip. It's sounds and looks like too much, but it's not. Try in a few times and see if it works, it made all the difference for me.
Wow Tim, mind blown! This video is heads and shoulders above any other video on the subject of skippin docks! Tactical Bassin has definitely become my #1 source for fishing info, and for good reason....you and Matt are the best fishing instructors on UA-cam. That being said...one view and this is already my favorite video from Tactical Bassin! Your technique, instruction skills and technical prowess makes me want to drop what I am doing and go skip some docks! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I skip docks a lot here in Tennessee. I had two custom spinning rods built that their whole purpose is skipping. Both are 7 foot medium action rods, one has an extremely fast tip because I like to skip a variety of Baits weightless ( worms, creatures and crawls) the second is just a fast tip for skipping jigs and swimbaits. In Tournaments I can move a lot quicker with the spinning rods and no worries of a backlash if I make a bad skip. I use Lew’s 30 Crush Mach spinning reels on both. Spinning rods may not be everyone’s choice but they work well for me for both speed and accuracy especially when you’re searching for that last good cull late in a Tournament.
These videos are super excellent ,Great for the fisherman ! I’m like all the other people that follow you guys ,super great videos excellent knowledge you guys are awesome!
Thanks Tim. Never done it. Still learning some other techniques and I don't have a boat. I watch you guys a lot. You-all taught me to fish. I have about 75 days of real studious fishing experience. My PB is my profile picture.
Great video Tim with good info as always. Those shots with the camera at water level, under the dock were so cool. More importantly, to me they showed better than the camera shots from behind you, that your bait was hitting the water well in front of the dock and skipping 2 or 3 times before finally going under the dock. Really well done. And as has already been mentioned I appreciate the tip about adding tape to the spool at a normal cast distance to keep from messing up all your line when learning to skip.
Finally a video on skipping!!! I am going to practice this till I get it now. Very interesting on which baits you mentioned skip better than others, I would have though a stick bait would be harder to skip being that it’s pretty floppy. I will use the tape method till I get it down pretty good. Great idea by the way, who would have thought there would be training wheels in bass fishing!!
Remarkable! Tim you are awesome at skipping. Thanks for the electrical tape suggestion, that's worth two thumbs up! Great information, love this video!
Phenomenal!!! What an incredible shot from the dock skipping all the different lures. I can not say it enough. You guys are great and Thank you for all you do.
YES IVE BEEN ASKING FOR THIS!!! I’ve known you guys have been skipping swimbaits and just didn’t know in what instances you would! Great video guys, best fishing page on UA-cam BY FAR!
My problem is i'm short. So I have to use shorter rods than most people do just so I can get a good angle to start skipping. I'm still learning it and you video is great! Part of my problem is I am trying to start my skip to far out. I'll start practicing beginning the skip closer to my boat. Thanks for taking time to show us this!
i needed this tip 3 years ago. lol. was fishing some docks with a ton of fish and i couldn't get in to them...Of course thatschanged now, but Im sure it's be helpful to many anglers, new and experienced. Awesome job!
Dammit Tim you make this technique look so easy. I know when I practice on the driveway at my house with my baitcaster I'll prolly make a temporary home for the Bald Eagle pair that live in my neighborhood with the huge bird nest I know I'm getting. Wifey just bought me a brand new Shimano Curado DC yesterday and I hope that will minimize the bird nesting.
I skip pretty well, but no where near as well as Tim! Excellent video! Practice Practice Practice! Its all time on the water. Thanks for the great videos, keep it up
Great video Tim !! Been looking at a lot of videos on this technique and after years of fishing, I need to put this in my arsenal of "moves." This is one of the best I've seen on UA-cam so far. You keep it really simple. Practice is key on anything. BTW .... look at the homes with ramps right to the lake !!! How cool is that?! :-)
Bad ass video. I loved the slow mo skipping. Skipping docks with a spinning rod is something I do on the regular being a saltwater angler. But a baitcaster has been difficult. Did it couple times without trying then was able to replicate with a chatterbait. But I will definitely be using the tape trick. Again, awesome video
This is definitely something I need to work on. I could've skipped on some big bed fish this year that were in tight spots. Thinking about getting a curado DC just for skipping.
Daiwa Tatula hands down. The Mag Force Z magnet is killer for skipping. You can dial it in so fine, it's amazing. You can get the previous model 100HS on eBay for less than $100 now.
Skirtless buzzbaits and GMan Ballin Out jig, set up the way the man himself fishes, are what I would recommend to learn on using a baitcaster. They've been some of the easiest lures to skip.
Loved the video! You guys should try the googan baits and give your opinion on them, I'm curious about these baits and wonder what you guys would think.
Great job! Your a dead aim and called those shots...wow. I need to get some practice in on this. I've done it but I'm not even close to that good..lol. I just use the few rods I already have 7'6 for everything but plan on getting more stuff soon.
Great video. Going to start trying to skip. You and Allen should come to Los Banos since your in California. There's lots of water and different conditions. The bass are different in each one. I've caught 7lbs but the locals say there are double digit beasts out here.
Yeah...the instant my lure hits the water, it's a nest big enough for the whole flock, and I"m sure I've got my breaks set tighter than yours. This is just one of those things like a Bob Ross video. You can tell us what you are doing, but, you are going to make it look FAAAR simpler than it really is. The truth is, you have umpteen hours practicing it and we all need to put in similar time to even come close to what you demonstrated. I'm sure people asked for it, and your production quality is great as always. Enjoyed your presentation and skills. I just wish it was a little more realistic. Just tell people they need to dedicate a lot of time to this and not to give up as they learn. The tape trick is nice for when they are going to do that, but I wish you had made the context of that tip clearer. There is no shortcut to advanced skills like this. I think most people who have ever skipped a rock know intuitively what they need to do. The problem is HOW to accomplish that. I don't envy you attempting to discuss that, because the truth is, it is an intimate feel and touch that is only developed over time. It is like explaining to someone who is fishing for the first time how to tell the difference between a "heavy feel" that is a bite vs pulling through weeds, etc. Only time develops that sensitivity.
Good stuff. Watching another video on skipping they mentioned slightly raising the rod tip as the bait begins to skip. Looked like that was happening here to, right? Also, no mention of how close the bait should be to the rod (doubt you want a foot+ of line hanging off the tip)... thoughts?
I’ve always wanted to master skipping a bait caster but was always worried of bird nesting the reel but ima try it with the electrical tape tip and see how things go

The tip about the electrical tape on the reel is incredible. Great idea.
Damn Tim those were some bad ass skips dude! That swimbait looked super cool sliding across the water like that!
The production quality of these videos is insane. Really well thought out and executed. And dam you are a ninja skipper!
That electrical tape tip is amazing, so simple I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before.. Once again tactical bassin coming through 👍
Love the slow motion video of skipping baits under the dock! One even hit the camera .. a true master angler ... precision at its finest! ;)
Hey guys, DaveyJones here with tactical bassin today we are gonna talk about skipping.
*flings bait into tree*
that under the dock skip slomo camera shot was fire
These videos are super excellent ,Great for the fisherman ! I’m like all the other people that follow you guys ,super great videos excellent knowledge you guys are awesome!
I love that you hit the camera on that last cast! Awesome video and great tips. Never tried skipping before but I'm definitely gonna practice this.
Thanks Tim. Never done it. Still learning some other techniques and I don't have a boat. I watch you guys a lot. You-all taught me to fish. I have about 75 days of real studious fishing experience. My PB is my profile picture.

You're guys tips and editing are top notch. My favourite fishing channel on UA-cam.
Phenomenal!!! What an incredible shot from the dock skipping all the different lures. I can not say it enough. You guys are great and Thank you for all you do.
Great video! as a beginner to bass fishing, I have tried skipping a few times (with alot of backlashes) These tips will really help.
Great video! Camera angle was awesome, bait looked great skipping across the water!
Thanks Tim
YES IVE BEEN ASKING FOR THIS!!! I’ve known you guys have been skipping swimbaits and just didn’t know in what instances you would! Great video guys, best fishing page on UA-cam BY FAR!
This is probably hands down the best skipping tutorial you can actually see a proper skip cast
Tim, you are a stud! Great video. I am going to start practicing this.
Thank you very much!
Talent. Clear results from spending time on the water. Great vid Tim!
MAN!! I loved that slow motion under the dock.. ived used something like that in my videos but you took it to another level. Spot on performance.
My problem is i'm short. So I have to use shorter rods than most people do just so I can get a good angle to start skipping. I'm still learning it and you video is great! Just what I needed to see. I'll practice these techniques. Thanks for posting Tim.
i needed this tip 3 years ago. lol. was fishing some docks with a ton of fish and i couldn't get in to them...Of course thatschanged now, but Im sure it's be helpful to many anglers, new and experienced. Awesome job!
Epic surface footage guys. Love that slow-mo.
Some of the coolest footage I've seen and it is just in a tutorial not even some show off highlight compilation
Thanks for this one Tim. Been needing something like this.
Dammit Tim you make this technique look so easy. I know when I practice on the driveway at my house with my baitcaster I'll prolly make a temporary home for the Bald Eagle pair that live in my neighborhood with the huge bird nest I know I'm getting. Thank you for this video. Just started Bass Fishing and trying to learn all the tricks I can.
Tim you're like a sniper bro! Great vid. Needed this!
So impressed with the production of this video had to watch it twice ! LOL.. just as impressed the second time around.
Great video. Definitely gonna practice skipping docks out my Kayak more.
Great video, great information and even better camera shots. Love the reverse angle watching the lure coming at you. Freakin amazing.
This is my favorite channel to watch always such good information
Under the dock cam with slow mo shot of stick bait coming at it- sweeeeeet shot!
Great tips Tim. Thanks for the video.
Great video. Ive never heard about that tape trick before. Good stuff.
Great video, I love skipping docks and these tips will help me perfect it.
Amazing content and the footage is awesome. Tim you are a skipping master. I frickin love it.
Even though i mastered skipping back in the 1990s... This was refreshing to watch :)
Those camera angles were sick Tim, nice skips!
Awesome video! One of the rare videos that are epic without any fish being caught! Btw, awesome camera under the dock too!
love the close up footage of the skips. nice.
Thank you Tim! Great video that will help me add that to my arsenal!!!
I have to say that is some impressive skipping! Thanks for the tips! I've been wanting to learn to do this.
That was pretty good Tim, hit the camera with both baits, no better way to drive your point home then that #awesome.....love it
You got mad skills, bro
That tape idea is super smart!
Amazing shot there...like throwing a hardball into the strike zone
That first skip was legendary. Wow
Awesome slow mo. Nice shooting.
Awesome vid! Can y’all make a video on how to skip from all directions? Back hand, and pitch skipping?
Also a good tip. If you can afford a Curado DC turn it to 4 and go to town. Its changed my fishing for the better.
Just sweet Tim all I can say!! And thanks for the tips!
I skip pretty well, but no where near as well as Tim! Excellent video! Practice Practice Practice! Its all time on the water. Thanks for the great videos, keep it up
Best Channel out there keep up the great work!

Awesome skipping tips man!!! Thank you so much!
thanks for the tip on not backlashing the whole spool with a piece of tape.
You're a good teacher bro love you're vids
Great video Tim!
Good video Tim. Nice job.
Great information as always

@@DrZiggyzoo1 I actually have 3 tats, and 1 ct. They are impressive for 160 and under for sure
Great video and great information. Thanks!
Tim with that HEAVY intro!!!!
Skirtless buzzbaits and GMan Ballin Out jig, set up the way the man himself fishes, are what I would recommend to learn on using a baitcaster. They've been some of the easiest lures to skip.
Awesome video. Nice aim!!
Beast mode!!💪
Cool video, good work guys! Thanks
I needed this in my life.

Sick camera angle
Good info I skip docks at lake of the ozarks if you don’t fill your reel up to the top of spool it will help prevent those birds nest
Great video. Going to start trying to skip. You and Allen should come to Los Banos since your in California. There's lots of water and different conditions. The bass are different in each one. I've caught 7lbs but the locals say there are double digit beasts out here.
Matt caught a DD out of the creek years ago but havent been back in a long time.
TacticalBassin it would be awesome and a chance to give out some great information.
Wish I’d seen this yesterday!

Wow, great camera shot at 2:35
Thanx guys nice skippin skills
Sick video bro tight lines
Great camera set up
Thank you for a awesome video you guys are awesome
Great video you make it look like there is no pressure when you cast.
I like that advice about the tape thanks
tape tip, GREAT idea!

Excellent Video!! Ninja skippa Tim. 9.8/10 only thing that could've made it better is hooking up with a Donkey or Pig. Great Job
I’ve always wanted to master skipping a bait caster but was always worried of bird nesting the reel but ima try it with the electrical tape tip and see how things go
If only I had dock to skip. Lol I do have over hanging trees which I can apply this. And the tape idea might be useful!
You don't need just docks. I skip into over hanging trees too.
Open water skipping can be good too especially around schooling fish.
Get info as always
Do have any advice on skipping from a kayak
