Appreciate the sequence of attempts with success in the end! Looking forward to watching how you use your diamond saw to cut off the rim! Thank you for the journey!
Thanks for the summary of all the lessons learned. Here are a couple from my experiences that you might consider: (1) for the proper thickness of the disc I have moved to not just filling up the ring with glass but to use the formula to properly calculate based on the desired thickness and ring circumference (2) I believe there are formulae for the amount of glass needed based on drop distance. (3) try making a ring of thin fire on top of your mold. It might help with the roughness on the top underside. Amen to your comments on anneal time - after several breakages, i spend the time with extra annealing.
Hi Nancy. Yes there is a formula. Bullseye specific gravity is 2.5. Just me being a bit lazy. Don't know about the one for the drop distance. If you have some idea I think we'd all love to know. Thanks for all that.
Thanks for posting the vid, looks like you're making some great progress each time you try this. Good luck with cutting the rim off, hopefully you'll have a nice vessel at the end!
Yay! Success 😀👌 Dropped beautifully! Love your willingness and persistence to get this perfected. Everyone should watch the first 2 videos to get the complete experience! Nice work Jeff 👍
Hi Jeff, it was timely that I saw your videos….I must subscribe! I’m just starting to investigate ‘drops’. I have a regal fear of open my kiln! I have an Evenheat ‘coffin’ kiln which sits just off my floor. So not only is the lid heavy, I have to open it a good distance to see inside. It terrifies me! Anyway I’ll have to ‘put on my big girl undies’ and give it a go. Thank you so much for all you share with us. I hope you are happy with your final drop vase. It looked lovely.
Close to the floor sounds really awkward. I've seen large kilns with a pulley system to open the lid. I think they have a counterbalance. Can you set up something like that?
So glad to see you had success with this one! I have a small one sitting on my tile saw that I need to remove the rim from yet. I look forward to seeing how you do this!
I love how the blue came through! This vase is gorgeous
Hi Twylah. Really glad you like it. It's growing on me. 😁

It’s along the lines of one extra layer of glass per every 2 inches drop. So 3 layers for a 2” drop, 4 for 4”, 5 for 6”
@@tahlia077 Thank you, Tahlia. Must keep that in mind.

Hi Jonathan. Let's hope. I think it'll go okay.

Thanks Ed. Just need to cut the rim off now 😁

Thank you Steve. I really appreciate that.
Thank you for all your help!
Hi Sally. Love to help.
I think it turned out great, I love the glimpse of color on the inside.
Hi Jo. Me to, that little veining looks great.
I like you don’t give up experimenting with this technique. Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks J G

I think just with a small diamond saw in a flexible shaft. Not game enough to score and snap and don't have a large enough saw. So a bit limited.
Just about to do my first drop out, so this is really useful. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
My pleasure Anne. Hope it goes better for you than the first attempt for me 😀
Well done you👍👍👍👍
Thank you 👍
What are you using to assemble glass in. An aluminum pan?
Hi Chris. That is a ring of stainless steel I made. It has no bottom. There is just Thinfire paper on the shelf.
