Just wanted to say thanks for this video. You are the ONLY person that was nice enough to give all the information on this. I just did this on my son's f150 raptor and I can confirm it's almost exactly the same. The only difference is on the raptor it only has 3 screws holding the wheels together instead of 6 however the outer rim has provisions for all 6 still in the casting so you just have to drill the inner rim to run the extra 3 screws and then the rest is the same.
I just want to say that this modification is legendary. What a great way to go full pneumatic while using factory parts. I am planning on doing this when I make my son's F-150 Power Wheels into 4WD!
@@charlesrg the raptor can. Not sure of the others. I just did this to my son's raptor. Only difference was the raptor had 3 screws holding the wheels together instead of 6 BUT they had the provisions for 6 you just have to drill 3 holes
@@ddeblaz1446 Yep. I've order some jeep hurricane wheels, and the new ones are 3 screws only. The Dune Racer issue is not the screw, but the size of the rim. It's too large for a 6 Inch and too small for a 8. So a 7 inch tire with that width is really hard to come about.
Thank you so much!! I just did the modification following the tutorial and it worked perfectly! It is now that I noticed how noisy the original plastic tires were!!!
Anymore update on this awesome ride? Just picked up a hurricane for my 3 and 1 year old looking to do the tire swap with the Premium 16x6.50-8 4Ply Directional X-Trac Snow Tire!
Good morning, wish I had another update. Projects fell to wayside. Woth the 24 volt set up my two older girls would ride around on it all day without any issues! Will hopefully have time to post new projests in the future. Thanks, Art
Hi Art, I've already did the 24v conversion on my 4 yrs old son's jeep hurricane. I've installed an ecm along with a variable speed pedal (slight modifications to where the old pedal was), headlights and taillights along with a red under dash led lights. After burning up the motor's, I purchased some peg perego 24v motors and installed it by making some modifications to motors without affecting either the housing or motor. It seems to be working perfectly but it's missing something. So I am now getting ready to do a tire swap similar to what you did, just wanted to know if you could share the exact tire size you used. Thank you,
yes it is addictive. I have three kids and another on the way. but I have built 2 custom trailers. we have 2 jeep wrangles. 1 hurricane. 1 extreme machine dune buggy. 1 Ford monster truck (old style). 1 24volt Polaris ATV with working suspension. and I have had like 6 other ones that I either parted out or sold.
I know this is an old thread, but I am doing this for my son. I got 16*6.50-8 tires with the same inner tubes. Did anyone use 16*6.50-8 inner tubes? or did everyone use the 4.80-8 like in the video? If I used 16*6.50-8 instead will that cause a major issue?
Doing it following your directions! My rims have only 3 screws, not 6 like yours. Hope they hold lol Update: they didn't. Had to nut/bolt them though the 6 spokes.
Can you give me the exact size of the longer screws you used for the wheels (I know you said 2.5" long), and where you sourced them? Thanks in advance!
This is such an awesome idea..we just got our kids a Jeep similar to yours, for Christmas..I'm looking to modify it..we got it used..it is excellent shape..but I want to make it a better ride..I also am.plannig to do the 24v upgrade as well
this is a very good idea. thanks for posting it. I am going to try it once I have some money. how did the gearboxes take it having the rubber tires? how was the steering as well?
Gears were doing fine. My 13 year old probable put about 2 miles on it and no problems. I put about 10 psi in the front and my 7 year old had no problems steering it. I am in the process right now of painting, light install as well as converting to 24 volts using a electronic scooter control. That will be the next video so we will see how the jeep does!
I have twin 4 year olds and a three year old who all pull trailers with their jeeps. I just got a hurricane for free cuz they didn't know what was wrong with it but they had snapped the drive gear
I just purchased 2 steel gears from ML toys. When doing the upgrade to 24volts I didn't want to take any chances with the stock gear. Very easy to install! I have had way to much weight on mine in the past. When I dissassembled I found out my rear axle was bent. I upgrade to a slightly heavier one from Home depot. I was surprised to hear that the gears could be weak since I never had problems
Hi, finally decided to upgrade the tires on my child’s hurricane, after I modified and mounted all of the wheels I noticed the keep is considerably slower than the plastic wheels, this is even with running a 18v battery. Are you running a larger power source, like a 24v? Thanks!
Hi Art, I am about to start my rubber tire mod and was wondering if you had any issues with your mod or if you would have done anything different? I am going to go with the Sno Hog tires and the same tubes
worked great no issues! Didn't hurt the gears and a real smooth ride for my girls. Decided to get carried away with a 500 amp controller and variable pedal. but they love it now!
Hi I just got that same pink sheep that you have at the end of the video for my daughter the tires are completely busted before I run out and go order the plastic tires and do the rubber Traction Tire around the plastic one I thought I could just save some money by just getting her some rubber tires and actually having them inflated install them on the car it's cheaper to as of now to buy four new tires for her would be around 60 bucks those are the stock tires or I found some used 8 and 1/2 inch about the same size golf tires that have the rims on them and inner tubes already inside them is there a way that you could recommend me to install them using the same Metal rims would that put too much pressure on the axle or should I switch out the metal rims with the plastic rims
Merrisa Hauptman The wheels on the small pink Jeep do not come apart like the hurricane Wheels unfortunately, the least expensive way would probably be to find a set of hurricane Wheels and do what I did otherwise you'll have to find hubs steel wheels and modify the axles
art klobucar turned out very well. I think I am going to make it power steering once he grows out of the rc mod. Thank you for sharing your Modified Power Wheels.

Can the f150 wheels be opened like the hurricane ?

Cool, had a similar idea and was looking for tire sizes, thanks for doing the leg work!
You are a legend mandou made my day! Thanks no more getting stuck and noise wheels!👌🏻

You sir deserve a beer!
Fantastic idea.
Just did this to my son’s hurricane. Thanks so much for posting!
Christopher Reuter no problem! Great mod!
Thank you much...looking to do the same for my daughters along with the 24v upgrade. Think I'll enjoy more than them
Thanks for sharing ... I have jeep hurricane that I am turning into remote control. I will do this next
Great video, I am going to try and do something similar to my kids Preg Perego RZR 900
Brilliant! I am following your footsteps!

Super cool mod. I think I’m going to do this to my son’s power wheel.
how did you grind down the plastic? did you use a sander? plastic knife?

Gotta do this! Great video thanks!
Did you use the narrower tube size for a specific reason?
Did not want to put excess pressure on the rim

I believe the first gen had three then they upgraded. Did the bolts do a better job?

I believe I picked them up from Home Depot, they were the same width as the originals
Would this work on a wrangler?
Cool idea. Thanks for sharing.
Ok this is from 3 years ago. I'm totally going to do this to our hurricane. How did the motors hold up to the extra weight
They worked fine, even overvolted the to 24 volts
How about a nut&bolt + cpl washers to hold those 2 sides of the rim?
That would be stronger, I wanted to keep the factory appearance on the outside of the wheel. Next Mod I will keep that in mind!
This is such an awesome idea..we just got our kids a Jeep similar to yours, for Christmas..I'm looking to modify it..we got it used..it is excellent shape..but I want to make it a better ride..I also am.plannig to do the 24v upgrade as well
the_professional18 they love it! Tgabks!
It is an addiction!
Where did you purchase the tires and whats the brand? Thanks for your reply in advance

I have a post on modifiedpowerwheels.com that has prices for the tire mod. New tires but you can find used tires cheaper
Let me know how it turns out! It's addicting!

hope you can make more videos

@@johnlabonte007 show us what you got
no problem glad it worked! show some video!
whats the cost break down?
This was a while ago, i believe around 50, but there are cheaper tires on the market now
anyone have a source for these tires, they are now 35/each on amazon best I can see.
Damm, new dune racer rims only use 3 screws
Fucking genius bud!!!
Great
If you're gonna record vertical, make a vertical video. How frustrating...
Would have watched the video but can't stand watching a sliver of a screen, grow up.
