    I tried this out on a child’s bumper car and it worked great! The original wheels got virtually no traction and only worked in one room of the house (and even then it needed a push to get started). It was so frustrating! I followed your instructions, except I used adhesive instead of screws and it now works perfectly! I’m a 59 year old woman and I was so pleased with myself! Hahaha Thanks so much for sharing this!!!

      I love this! That’s what ours was doing and every 3 mins the kids wanted a push. That’s when I started to dig around the garage to see what I had. At the time I was not thinking adhesive but I will say I also didn’t have any adhesive. That’s awesome that you made it happen. I’m proud of you too! I’m going to try the adhesive on the next ine

But I will say so far the old tiers and screws are holding up, my kids ride this thing all the time. The one tier does move a little once in a while seams more on cold days. I used hex head self-tapping screws into the plastic and did not over torque them and they work great they're actually extra little knobbies. They've been on one of my power wheels for over a few years. If rust does accumulate on them as soon as they take it down the street they're shiny again

    Did this to my daughters jeep years ago, for us it wasn't the traction but more for the noise! Stops that plastic rock popping sound instantly. As far as the traction goes, it is great to the point of fault. Her favorite game was going vertical in the ditch and rolling it over backwards, lol

    I just found ur video. I have been playing with these power wheels for my 3 yr old, he started @ 2 yrs old. I built him a custom monster truck. Its frkn awesome. Ive never seen any videos. I got tired of him getting stuck spinning, so i had old lawnmower tires that i cut the tread off one inch below outside, looks like low profile tires aand covered the entire tire. Unbelievable. What made me do it is i atarted putting my 20v dewalt batteries in. It is unbelievably fast and last. Its the thicker batteries not the slim. Awesome video

    • @AL-xx2dw

      Yes these people miss the point of just using glue only. The screw heads could wear off and remain lodged in the tire. Which is an issue. Also using glue you can get an more even and stronger bond to the tire. Especially where the two ends meet together. You don’t want them overlapping causing a bump every time you roll over it.

    I have a 24v li ion battery pack powering my sons power wheels and it hauls ass. My main concern is that there is absolutely no traction with that amount of power on these power wheels. Especially turning on concrete and the back tires are getting ate up. Now not only does my son ride it, but I ride it too and it's alot of fun. I want to do this but I do not want to destroy the gear box. I've ridden it up and down hills with no problems, still runs strong. I'd def like to do this but still a tad bit worried but I feel like with my riding I would have caused some type of damage to the gear box by now, so I doubt this added traction will harm much.

  • @chart2006
    @chart2006 7 років тому +27

    It might be better to use strips of neoprene rubber. It'll give you additional traction just not to the extend of what these tires will which would reduce strain on the gear box. Also instead of putting a strip down the middle of the tire put one along the outside edge but glue it on. The current tire uses the inside section of the tire for contact with the road. By moving a strip to the outside, which slopes down, you increase the area of surface contact, increase the overall wheel base lowering its center of gravity, and provide additional traction without messing up the gearbox. That's the theory anyway so haven't tried it yet but it hinges on the idea that both the plastic center of the tire and the neoprene strip are both touching the road.

    I don't like these screws. The heads are small and the rubber underneath is soft. They may just pierce trough and let the bike tire loose. Then, the plastic material is thin and these screws will not hold very well. Very quickly they will become loose and go lost in the grass. Then the child may step on them with bare feet... The other idea was glue. The plastic wheels are made of HDPE (high density polyethylene) or PP (polypropylene). Both are the most non-polar polymers known and there is no known solvent for them. They repel glue just like paraffin candle repels water. Of course, I may be wrong. There may be some breakthroughs. For example, if you drill many little holes in the plastic tires, then the glue will go through the holes and the strength of the glue will be because of the semiliquid material that goes trough the holes and solidifies there. Not the adhesion to the plastic surface itself.

    Just did this and the back tires seem to be doing ok but the front ones keep coming off. I’m not sure if it’s bc they are damaged already or bc those are the wheels that turn with the wheel.

      They're plain household chicken shears. I prefer tin snips, but those seem to work great and are really cheap.

      @outdoorjunkie2483  2 роки тому +1

      Almost, if your wheels are a bit smaller the a 29” wheel tire would yes but not a 26”

    I haven't done this mod yet. I keep hearing that it will strip out the gears faster..... more grip means more stress on the gears.

    • @outdoorjunkie2483
      @outdoorjunkie2483  5 років тому +1

      toolman101476 Iv here that too but it’s been awhile now and our gears are still fine. It’s not likes it an over kill of traction here just enough to medic the bold tire problem

      The factory wiring is wired so that any residual power created from momentum, once foot pedal is released. Redirected back to the negative side of motor so it immediately stops motor.
