  • This area is rich in artifacts but the iron coming off the bank stains the stones a rusty red.

I’ve learned a lot from you and others. I like finding the tools more than hunting for scrapers and points. One thing that I would find helpful since I’m new at this is if you could also pick up stones that look like they might be some thing and spend a little more detail explaining why it is not an artifact even though it might have some features that appear to be an artifact. I guess what I’m saying is I’d like to understand more of the fine nuanced details so that I can become more astute at finding these tools. Thank you so much for your good work.

May I please share some information about getting the iron out. I bought some un- cut geodes from Kentucky and instructions called for buying 'Iron Out' from the local home depot/ Lowes or hardware store. Said that you need a bucket with a lid and soak for a few days. Then rinse by soaking in clean water. Warm water mixture with Iron Out works faster than cold water. Can also sit outside in the sun. I haven't done it yet. Make sure to wear gloves and eye protection. I hope this helps

I like that grinder at 7:35. It looks like it's been fired as well, because of the different color red of the surrounding rocks. I'm a novice, so I could be wrong.

It's not unusual to find stones or tools that have been close to a fire. The heat can cause color changes in the stones.

Great educational video, how old would you say your finds are, would they all be in about the same time period?

Many are from the mid Archaic through the Woodland period.

How do you clean up your artifacts without causing any damage?

A soft brush with Murphys Oil Soap mixed in water works great. It conditions stones to some degree. Don't use any harsh detergents. Just worm water for pottery, you may want to use a very soft toothbrush, but not for long!

The hunters in my area don't care about the tools. They just want the perfect, obvious points. They discount my tool findings. Almost mock them. Their ignorance leaves all the tools for me. Their loss.

There's also more art than is usually recognized. I'm more of a art and tool guy. They are sometimes combined.

I'm surprised how many you have found, I looked in creeks before and never find any, or maybe I just don't know how to spot them 🤔

Not all areas are artifact rich. Gental, east facing slopes close to river systems would be the first thing you would look for. You have to find the areas that provided long term sustainability, It's not easy! I am fortunate to have access to some good areas that had consistent occupation for thousands of years.

Even though you are a artifact fool, I still want to be your friend. You need help indentifing artifacts. I'm willing to help you if you promise to go back on your meds.
