On a recent return from Germany I was coming through with only a carry on and my 33c and R41 I bought there as a souvenir and I’m convinced that the only reason they weren’t both confiscated there was because the TSA guy was a DE shaver himself and knew what it was. Even congratulating me on my nice razors! But since then I’ve decided to take only cartridge razors if I’m not checking a bag. Side note, the Mühle store in Berlin is a wet shavers paradise.
You're fortunate that you caught a good agent! I've heard stories of them confiscation safety razors even without blades in them, which makes no sense at all. I guess it all depends on who you come up against,...
I fly way more than I like, and I have found that the rules change to fit the mood of the person doing the search. I have flown with zippos, only to have them confiscated at the connecting flight. I have learned to just ship everything to my address and not carry anything but clothing.
When I flew last year, I threw a 5 pack of razor blades into my zip lock bag. The TSA looked thoroughly at my safety razor to make sure it didn’t have a blade. But completely ignored the 5 razor blades right next to it. The TSA is an incompetent joke.
It’s a joke but it’s partially because TSA isn’t paid all that much above minimum wage, maybe a few dollars more, which is a lot for many but that line of work should be paid more and trained more
Geo, Have you ever looked at sourcing out a supplier for a disposable safety razor for those of us that fly weekly for work? It is such a pain using the garbage disposables currently on the market!! A throw-away model with a Astra or Gillette SB that we could carry through TSA would be a hit with wet shavers I would think.
Good and timely video. I recently traveled and I have been checking my bag with my Dopp kit. I did see the man ahead of me get a thorough check because he had a leatherman small skeletool with scissors and a very small blade. TSA guy took it and helped him mail it back to himself. I was impressed.
Thank you Geofatboy! This is a helpful and informative video. I travel a lot and just stared wetshaving this year. I have been trying to learn about all the products that suit the travel needs. Awsome!!
I have a plastic razor box that I ended up with from one of the Chinese TTO razors (the razor was horribly aligned and tossed). It has a spot under the razor handle for a 5 pack of blades. I had forgotten the blades were there and packed the box in my Dopp. Got to the hotel in NYC knowing where to pick up good blades (Pasteurs). I opened the box and had a "merde" moment. Luckily, I only had a few blades to toss since I wasn't going to push my luck on the return trip. Since then, I use 1 or 2 blade disposables I call my TSA razors for carry-on and I only bring my DE when I check bags.
Predawn Precipitation wouldn’t be surprised. TSA is the most incompetent government agency ever created. TSA stole my moms applesauce because they said she could only have 1 instead of 2. Meanwhile I get by with razor blades.
Thank you for sharing. Conditions may vary when travelling out of country. Sometimes from Canada to the USA can be a nightmare. But then again I would rather be safe while snoozing at 30K feet. Happy travels everyone. 😎🇨🇦
8:43 that”s exactly what I am about to say :))) Funny and informative video, thank you! Needless to say I won't risc bringing my de razor simply because I don't want to risk getting it confiscated.
I travel a crazy amount. Water quality and hardness can sometimes come in to play. I prefer a good lather so I bring what I want to use and also throw a stick of Arko in my bag. It lathers every time I tell ya! Ps- I love my Simpson’s major. 😀
6:21 I think 💭 I should take safety 🪒 without blades at the airport. However, I’m done buying cartridge razors from Gillette or Barbasol ultra 6 plus as I’m starting to like shaving my safety razor for a close shave.
I went through TSA with a carry on that had my Parker A1R travel razor, they never took it out of its case to even look at it, I did mail a blade at my hotel which arrived a few days after I got there. I think he could’ve confiscated it if he wanted to, another comment below stated that he almost had his taken away, like Geo said it depends on the TSA agent.
Shave stick and a synthetic brush is 100% the way to travel. Easy to use and dries quickly. 👍 I liked this video alot you should've showed off the break down travel DE razors you sell though!
There are disposable razors that are good to use as a safety razor replacement, at least for a short trip, and those are BIC One Blade or BIC Metal. There might be others, but I've heard of those, and actually used the One Blade twice, and it does provide a good enough shave. Another thing that freaks me out is having an expensive razor, and simply because the TSA agent is not in a very good mood, decides to confiscate it even if you are not carrying a blade. It might happen since as you say, the last decision is on the hand of the officer. So, to avoid that unpleasantness, I purchased a Merkur Bakelite safety razor. It won't tag it as a metal object on the X-ray machine, reducing the chances of the TSA officers doing extra screening on your stuff. And if you happen to find blades at your destination, you can still shave the right way. I'll also carry a couple disposable One blades, just in case.
@@dan_mer I can put a straight razor in a checked bag, but when I'm traveling light and I don't want to check a bag, this solution is the best for me. If you put a disassembled razor in your hand bag or personal object, even without a blade, there is a possibility that the officer confiscates it. I've seen it happen.
Another helpful video Geo, THANKS👍 I’ve lost count of the number of times DE blades have been in my carry on bag. My DE razor is always checked to confirm it is empty. Also, I have found my old Schick Injector is UNBEATABLE for flying. Leave the injector blade in the razor! How are you going to get it out? Take care, all the best. Zac.
I made the mistake of going through Las Vegas airport/ TSA with my 1958 Gillette Fat boy today. No blades, of course. But the young girl going through my bag held it up and looked at it like she was a cave woman discovering fire for the first time and wanted to confiscate it. She started to say, “I’m sorry but…” and I stopped her mid sentence to explain that it was a vintage Gillette razor from 1958 and that there are no blades in it. (I forgot to tell her Geofatboy said it was OK) 😂 After a little back and forth she finally gave it back to me. But never again! I’ll ship it back home. (I trust UPS or FedEx more than the airline’s checked baggage system) So yup- just because it is allowed per TSA guidelines doesn’t mean you won’t run into somebody clueless that will take it with with zero repercussions. If anything, next time I’ll bring something I don’t mind being confiscated by a poorly trained Tub Stacker.
Do not rely on finding double edge razor blades at any dollar stores. You might find, if you are lucky. Better bet is Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, or Target. Or maybe Rite Aid.
I disassembled my DE razor and had it in my carry on (no blades). The automatic (unmanned) x-ray scanner at IAH picked it up anyway, set off a loud alarm, and they TSA guy started shouting "WHOSE BAG IS THIS??". Man, was the TSA guy PISSED. He let me through with it, however, but told me next time it wasn't allowed, even without razors. I tried to mail the razors ahead of time, but they never arrived in the mail at my destination.
Wallgreens have "wallgreens" blades. They are not very comfortable, at least not for me, but they do the job until you can either purchase the right kind that works for you, or you return home.
Hey Geofatboy, I'm using the Reuzel shave cream but I see that the cream doesn't create lather. Is there a solution I can use the cream or any other cream that doesn't lather?
How do you keep straight razors away from children? You probably know you can prohibit, threaten or bribe, but you never fully know what they are up to.
make a cabinet with latches and mount it up on a wall where they can't reach it. If they are old enough and clever enough to do so they deserve the consequences.
Just had a trip to France to visit my parents, mailed the feather blades ahead of me. Good advice here. Cheers George.

Probably a good policy if you want to keep your precious items.

Ditto!!
Same here, I had actually forgotten about it, discovered it upon arriving.
Security theater
🙈

Great idea! Gears are turning...
“Bevel essentials disposable safety razor”

It's tough to work those jokes into a conversation ! They crack me up, too ! Keep the new products and jokes coming !

They confiscated my feather blade but somehow missed the .357 sitting next to it.
You brought a gun as a carry-on item?
Predawn Precipitation wouldn’t be surprised. TSA is the most incompetent government agency ever created. TSA stole my moms applesauce because they said she could only have 1 instead of 2. Meanwhile I get by with razor blades.
Dozens of documented incidents where undercover feds got guns and even explosives past TSA

I won't risc bringing my de razor simply because
I don't want to risk getting it confiscated.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the tutorial. Now I know what to take with me when I visit my brother in Georgia.
Perfect timing on this video because next month we are flying out to AZ for the Big Shave S'west, thanks👍
So for the DE shaver your blades are all that need to be in your checked baggage. Straightforward enough.
I travel a crazy amount. Water quality and hardness can sometimes come in to play. I prefer a good lather so I bring what I want to use and also throw a stick of Arko in my bag. It lathers every time I tell ya! Ps- I love my Simpson’s major. 😀

Sounds good!
$4 to mail two blades to Texas where I stayed last week... Kinda nuts for $.30 of steel...better than a $30 fee to check baggage I suppose😓
I went through TSA with a carry on that had my Parker A1R travel razor, they never took it out of its case to even look at it, I did mail a blade at my hotel which arrived a few days after I got there. Great tips! This reminded me I need a travel brush and one of those shave stick cases.
Those quart bags will hold 9-12 bottles of the 2 ounce liquor bottles. At least that's what someone told me. 🤣🤣🤣
Shave stick and a synthetic brush is 100% the way to travel. Easy to use and dries quickly. 👍 I liked this video alot you should've showed off the break down travel DE razors you sell though!
Good ideas, covered alot. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
"this may or may not have happened to me" haha
Can you review the RazoRock Wunderbar please. Would love to see you shave with it. Thank you.
Hello Mr. Geo, thank you for this useful video. Take care
What if you just put it in 1 of your bags that's not carried on?
I think that was covered in the vid.
Very important video for travelers!

But why? No one will give you an issue if you put your stuff in the checked bag or disassemble it.

Love your style and videos, thanks!
But GeoFatBoy said it was ok. LOL Good info as always Geo.

I think you can fly with straight razor in checked stored baggage. Correct Geo?
Very helpful. Thank you
Get a gillette Guard from India, ti's the perfect travel razor
I love the intro jokes. 😄
Thanks Jimi!

Cannot see what a packet of blades would pose a problem as long as it is sealed and away form on board luggage.
Do not rely on finding double edge razor blades at any dollar stores. You might find, if you are lucky. Better bet is Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, or Target. Or maybe Rite Aid.
What about my hair clipper?
I disassembled my DE razor and had it in my carry on (no blades). nope nope the only problem is when you travel light with only a carry on luggage, then you can’t take DE blades with you.
Good tips!
I just put everything in my checked bag
That's the safest way.
No dollar store I’ve ever visited has blades!
Dollar General sells 5 pack Personna blades
Wallgreens have "wallgreens" blades. They are not very comfortable, at least not for me, but they do the job until you can either purchase the right kind that works for you, or you return home.
Hey Geofatboy,
I'm using the Reuzel shave cream but I see that the cream doesn't create lather. Is there a solution I can use the cream or any other cream that doesn't lather?
You probably already figured it out but the reuzel shave cream isn’t a cream you lather up. You apply it directly to your face and start shaving
@@BlackFoxTheBest so you wet your face as normal and then apply the cream?
Good video. 😎👍🏼
How do you keep straight razors away from children? You probably know you can prohibit, threaten or bribe, but you never fully know what they are up to.

Dermaplane for carry on
I don't think that open blade will fly-pun intended!
G! Next time take a ride with me and your bike 🤘 how about that?
Love dad´s jokes! LOL
👍🏻
batteries are allowed for carry on. They don't want it checked in.
Thanks Just...
Just pack your 1890 Kampfe Bros Safety Razor, they don't even know what it is. They keep overlooking the single edge blade.
Funny!
Thanks Robert!
The TSA is so ridiculous. Talk about government overreach. Just pat em down and make sure they dont have anything illegal or dangerous.
He's Greek?
ha ha funny man !!!!!!
Now I will tell the TSA officer that Geofatboy told me that it was golden to bring blades with me in my pocket
Outstanding videos!
Glad you like them!
Thank You. Very helpful.
