  • Dearest Friends :-D !!!
Thank you for your patience and time.
    This video is...
depiction of how a 24hr trip at Ochanomizu-Akihabara area CAN be very fruitful and complete.
1: my stops and usual planned chronological stops
2: meet a great nice friend from Switzerland (he is Italian)
3: this time I reveal the best vinyl record cleaning solution/combination I have been using since January 2016.
The Vinyl Record cleaning combination can all be bought at AudioUnion at Ochanomizu. Story: I was there in January 2016, facing two ultrasonic machines : AudioDeske and Klaudio, deciding to buy one between the two of them. But Kuno-san advised me to get this combination (as shown in the video) that works even better than both the ultrasonic machines. And indeed, the Japanese combination works WAY better than Klaudio and AudioDeske (which I have tried at my local retailers' demonstrations but both Klaudio and AudioDeske do not clean as well as this Japanese method)!!!!!
    1. AnalogRelax Brush:
    updated 14th Aug 2017:
    zootcommunication.wixsite.com...
    2. LeiQwa Balance A and B solutions,
    www.amazon.co.jp/LEIQWA-BW-33...
    3. Visco33 cloth,
    www.amazon.co.jp/LEIQWA-VISCO...
    4. RecoBase from AudioUnion Japan,
Or an alternative is the Arté one:
    www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%A2%E3...
This method has been devised by some hard core scientists and chemists, and has since become the secret, best method, used amongst hard core Japanese record collectors.
AND because it is less than 40,000yen, it does not "feature" on audio magazines. So friends, you know the usual me, and how many of us know the usual hifi industry: advertisements on audio magazines, and salesmen's commissions, "make the world go round".
The Analog Relax Brush is extremely finest, at 0.03mm. And is made of a material that does amazing destat and discharge of statics...thus cleaning up and clearing up the vinyl replay and presentation!! Audible and it works!
    Special mention:
Vinyl records that look very clean and devoid of dust... you really think so? You put one such record on your turntable, and you look confident and smirking and grinning to yourself: that the records are squeaky clean, and you are ready to lower your stylus.
    Stop.
Use the AnalogRelax Brush... give just 2-3 light sweeps, and...
Lo-and Behold: YOU SEE A PILE OF MICRODUST GATHERING AT THE ENDS OF THE BRUSH STROKES💪😄✌!!! The common carbon fibre brush and whatever brush and bristles i have used, are not able to match this AnalogRelax Brush in efficacy. This truly is an amazing brush. I kowtow.
It is stated on the label that is distributed by the Zoot company.
Don't worry about language... it comes with a comprehensive instruction manual on the features and science of the brush, the science of statics on records, the fineness of the brush bristles, its material...and how to use it (there are steps)... All in English and Japanese😄.
Short of showing you the very nice insert in the product itself.. This webby describes how it works and how it is different from all other record brushes in the market :-D !!!... its outer and inner conductivity, the materials used, how fine it is, the science of it all, and how this brush's slower conductivity has its reasons.
    analogrelax.com/post-708/
    analogrelax.com/en/page-206-2/
    • 静電気を除去するブラシをテスト
When you have it :-D ... how you use it, is described above. Dab at 4 corners perpendicular to the record surface, (better as recommended in the product inset, better to do a Union Jack, 8 corners dabbing, i do that personally too.)
    • Analog Relax 除電ブラシ 使用説明1
The above shows its amazing effect in a simple short demonstration. The real shock is when you use it yourself on your own records in the "flesh" :-D...
    Warmest Regards,
    ~ ian

Worlds best quality vinyl, hi-fi equipment, accessories etc... Man, you are killing us all with your videos, my eyes will jump out of my head of watching all that goodies at one place. It's a hi-if & vinyl paradise..! We can only order via Internet such kind of things now in these "modern times". So few good shops exist in last decades in Europe, but Japan and Asia are still holding with and keeping same old good traditions we little older are familiar with. THANKS

Amazing shopping. There seemed to be everything you could imagine available stocked in depth. Here in London and possibly the rest of the UK, such deeply stocked shops do not exist. We have very few retailers in that sense. Rather, we tend to read reviews and shop on line. The major retailers are now few and we can still audition equipment in salons but, most shopping happens on the internet. Tokyo for gear shopping and records is legendary. It must be good to be able to fly in and shop sometimes. Thanks for sharing your shopping trip. Fantastic!

I think the product that really hammers home the slight unreality of Japanese audiophile culture from my Finnish POV is the display box for 12 cartridges. The idea that not only is that a commercially available product, but one that's popular enough to stock at a physical retail space is kind of mindboggling. The target audience for it has to be incredibly narrow, essentially limited to extreme cartridge collectors who don't recoil from the idea of paying thousands of dollars for a Clearaudio or Koetsu cart and want to give it pride of place on their shelf, only to be decanted for special occasions on particularly treasured vinyl.

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  6 років тому

Amazing buddy.... yes.... that display box for 12 cartridges!!! I think the brand is called Belldream. :-D....
      1) "give it pride of place",
2)"only to be decanted for special occasions".
      INDEED.
:-D Warmest Regards Buddy in Finland!!!!
      Enjoy your weekend~~~

A perfect balance of "techy" and a normal enjoyable trip report, so beautifully done, never overwhelming or boring. So much to say here - first, as a big believer in ultrasound record cleaning I need to see your method in action. ... disk union Ochamizu Metal store - they have a very limited amount of vinyl only, I remember from my visit in March. ... I really have to check out your food recommendations :) ... for those who have Euros, no better time to visit Japan than now, the exchange rate is incredible right now! I can't wait to visit again. ~ Josh

Another great nice video makes me want to visit Japan again... you have to follow-up with your cleaning method... better than audiodesksysteme...very high claim... I have bought a few Japanese records (from japan) via discogs and so far they looked great, but sound was only ok until after I power washed them and scrape the grooves a few times (i.e. play them with a Shibata diamond).
Very eager to see your new method... the secret must be in the cloth.
looking forward to more of your great work.... happy spinning

Another great vid! Now I know what to do with a day if I ever find myself in Tokyo! I'll be keeping my eyes out for "Analog Relax" next time I'm in Yongsan. I haven't found a single High end store quite as big as Audio Union in Yongsan or Cheonggye yet. On the other hand, both districts have numerous specialty shops in larger buildings. Some shops with a more narrow focus than others. Haven't checked out the Kangnam district yet, probably because it is notoriously expensive.

Lovely Video Ian. Been waiting a few days for a day off from work to sit down and relax to take it all in and watch it. Was worth the wait! I'd love to visit Tokyo one day. Brother, thank you... it is because of you and fellow friends' support and suggestions before that i have added snippets of my daily life. Roger brother, on that cleaning method i have been "secretly" using since Jan 2016. I just couldn't find the time to do the video earlier... it really works better than Klaudio and AudioDeske... my friends who tried them too, came over to try this method which I use, and they too, found their records were cleaned much better than Klaudio and Audiodeske. Their records, used to be still littered with clicks and pops and whatever irritants, became cleaned, detailed and playable AND enjoyable after i cleaned their records with the method I inherited from Kuno-san in Japan.

Loved the video, especially the info on record cleaning. The Analog Relax brush looks a lot like the AudioQuest carbon fiber brush. I am looking forward to a vinyl cleaning video from you (I recently posted one with my own home made hybrid system), saying that it is better than ultrasonic is quite a claim! I will be visiting some friends here in the states that have ultrasonic cleaners so I can do some comparisons.

Yes, a big claim, but I just have to steer from untruths.... moderately unplayable and irritating audiophile grade records (EVEN after subjecting them to Klaudio and Audiodeske!!!) my friends and i have, were subjected to this method (LBA&B,V33,Base,ARBrush) and these records after ARE cleaned so well, so much better, and playable and go back to the "stash" or "compartments" of PLAYABLE records within our Ikea Kallax shelves!!!! Hahahaha :-D you know what I mean... the "unplayable" and "playable" compartments ...
      Best Regards Brother Bill!!!

Hi Ian, Just wanted to say thanks for the video. I got back from a week in Tokyo a couple of days ago and it was so useful for me. I visited all the places you mentioned and a couple of others I came across. As I am in the UK I was limited in what I could carry back but picked up some super cheap and great quality vinyl from the 2 Disc Union sores (Shibuya and Shinjuku progressive rock store) and also went to Recofan and saw even more I wanted! Then I went to pick up a Nagoaka MP110 cartridge and replacement stylus, a HS-3 headshell and a record weight at Yodabashi Camera. I also picked up some Reika Balance 33 fluid, Visco33 wipes and an Onzow Zerodust at Tereon as they were slightly cheaper then Audio Union.
I wanted to ask if you could possibly do a video of how to use the Reika Balance 33 as the instructions are only in Japanese? It would be so appreciated. Thanks again for all your videos and look forward to seeing more of them soon! Sorry for the long comment :-)

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  6 років тому

Wow! I have also picked up the HS-3, a Nagaoka MP-110 replacement stylus as well! Hi five!! So similar!!! The record weight i have was also bought at Yodobashi Camera, a year ago! What coincidence!!!!!!!!!!! I bought my Onzow at AudioUnion too, a red and a green one :-D...
      Brother, here it is:
      * Clamp your vinyl record on the RecoBase, followed by the following steps :-D...
      1. Apply 5-10drops of LeiQwa Balance A solution around and onto your vinyl record,
      2. Visco33 cloth to wipe, the record grooves,
      3. Leave to dry for 10minutes,
      4. Apply 3-5 drops of Balance B solution,
      5. Use another piece of Visco33 cloth to very lightly smear it over the record,
      6. Leave to dry for 10minutes,
And now you can store your record in its sleeve. I hope you have gotten the AnalogRelax brush too brother!
Very happy to see that you have enjoyed your trip!!!!
      :-D ~ ian.

Many of my friends (from all over the world, of various nationalities) got the "treatment" from them. It is not a matter of "poor service"... there is no service to speak of, but bad treatment. I repeat: not poor service, but bad humiliating treatment.

Hopefully somebody else with a LOT of cash, and even more time, than me, is able to buy up ALL :-D the competing decks at the higher price ranges of $k-$8k e.g. ClearAudio, Rega, Pro-Ject, MobileFidelity, Avid, Soulines, AcousticSolid, etc decks and appeal to another section of the public, perhaps even indulging them with all the $3k-$6k cartridges from SoundSmith, Lyra, Dynavector, ClearAudio, Ortofon, Transfiguration, etc and make honest comparison videos too to benefit fellow consumers.
Brother Paul of "barakapdub" channel is doing an excellent job on record and music reviews. Sure hope you know him :-D!!!

    Dear Ian..........
I just love your these Videos on your trips to Japan! Though the theme is vinyl and analogue audio but punctuating the video with tit bits on the local life and road side life, adds more "life" to your videos. Japan is having amazing audio hi-fi stores - they really do have huge and beautiful collection of analogue audio rig. But the video turns out to be a bit covering everything on fast pace.... perhaps you wanted to cover everything on a 30 minutes slot. Would have loved to have it on two parts at a much lesser pace with more details ...
Thank you so much for the video - its only because of you could have a glimpse of such lovely Japanese analogue audio and vinyl world.

Hi there, a great video again from my favorite town Tokyo. Continuosly checking your videos and this time the last part got me interested, your choice of record cleaning method. Definitely I will buy the package when I'm back in Tokyo end of august. Just want to share my experience regarding record cleaning. As for cleaning records I've been using "the Vinyl Vac" wet cleaning method and it is working very well even being very rudimentery having a small vaccum cleaner type Shopvac and the Vinyl Vac wand, it does the job pretty damn good. For the price aorund 150 USD which includes the shopvac it's a bargain. It may not be for everybody since it is all manual but compare to pricing for most other wet cleaning machines it is definitely worth the money. As for cleaning fluid I use higly purified distilled water and non perfumed dishwasher detergent 1:200 ratio. Nevertheless the method your describe needs checking out and be tested.

Dear Carl, thank you for your kind words and encouragement again :-D.
Sorry I am two hours late... just came back from the airport after sending a friend off.
:-D very happy to hear from you... hope somehow you have managed to get a Planar 3 vs 1 Xpression audition yourself. Yes, the Hana, DL103... they will be scheduled for later in the year, while the MP200 will be included in the Group E carts shoot-out and reviews happening in September - October, after I have finished the current ongoing testing, examination and audition of the Sony PS-HX500 vs Rega Planar 1 vs Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC (US$400 turntables shoot-out).
:-D hard work... i need to be diligent to give a fair assessment. Some initial findings are coming through. Many things to be talked about. We will keep in touch my friend :-D!!
      Warmest Regards,
      Ian.

Ah, so hard to find those Cartridge/Headshell Display Cases anywhere. But of course, they can be found in Japan.👍
Thanks for the heads up on the vinyl cleaning products.👍 I had to pause that part of the video though since it was edited so fast in the end.

    Hi Ian,
Your videos are awesome, i'm never get bored from watching them again and again.
i need your valuable opinion about these 2 turntables
which one is a better choice ?
    1. Pro-Ject 1 Xpression Carbon classic
    2. Rega Planar 3
    Thanks

      @HiViNywschannel  7 років тому +2

      Dear Carl,
I have not tested a Planar 3 versus a 1 Xpression Carbon Classic before, and as such, I cannot say with confidence which one sounds better. Apologies my friend :-)...
I hope fate allows you the chance to hear these two decks side-by-side in a A-B shootout and enable you to make the best decision :-D !!!
      Warmest Regards,
      ian.

Ian, a request from a new subscriber...can you do a video on your vinyl cleaning methods please?

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  7 років тому +14

I will schedule it my friend.
      But basically it is simple:
clamp the record, apply Balance A 10 drops, wipe only with the Visco33 cloth, dry for 5minutes, then apply Balance B 5 drops, wipe over lightly and leave dry for 15minutes between putting the cleaned records back into their sleeves. Before playing the record, utilise the AnalogRelax Brush to gently dust off the vinyl surface, and then tap it 10seconds in 4 different areas of the vinyl record surface to destat it via the coronal discharge method. Every thing works together like a dream.
Using it since January 2016 and never looked back.

The reason I ask for a video is because some of the products you use are not available in the UK (EG: AnalogRelax Brush) so it would be nice to one in action before trying to order it from Japan, Thank you.

@@HiViNywschannel Hi Ian - are there any cheaper alternatives to the recobase/arte version? Do you think they're essential?

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  5 років тому +1

@@JawedKarim763 dear Andy🤗 I would say yes the record clamping station is very important so that the cleaning can be done very, very well. I strongly believe there would be some other options out there that can do the job: clamp the record, cover the labels, with the record's slightly bulging edge accounted for. I believe so there are options out there other than the RecoBase and Arté ones. You are right Brother. More power to your channel and singing endeavours💪💪💪😊🎶🎵🎶

Hi man. I am from Uruguay and here the best you can buy new in stores is the audio technica turntable and AT95E cartridge at double the USA price. The rest are crosley kind. I have a pro-ject debut III that I imported and my friends think I’m crazy but I’m very pleased with it.
      Love your videos. Regards!

Thank you Ian for a wonderful video! I'm relatively new to vinyl and watching your videos are not only very helpful but super fun and entertaining!
What would be the best way for someone in the U.S to get one of those analog relax brushes? Also, can you give some more details on your cleaning method, I saw that you use a clamping base, a special solution, and cloths.

    • @HiViNywschannel

I ever bought a few and sent them on request to some friends in the U.S. last year while I was in Japan... i bought them and sent it from the Japan Post Office :-D... I do see these AnalogRelax brushes appearing on amazon occasionally. The other way which I have encountered lately, is to set up a Amazon JP account, and get it shipped by your deposit courier services in Japan, and have it shipped back to your country :-D!!
You can also visit this website: analogrelax.com/en/page-206-2/ and if you read along, you can actually email zoot communications for enquiries and purchases from overseas!! Hope everything goes well and smoothly for you.
      Best Regards!!!
