It's poetic that in death, Askeladd became the hero his mother dreamed of and saved Wales himself.
Wow I’ve never thought of it like that 😮
Very true! Kinda goes back to what the priest was talking about in s1 ep18 with "death perfects a person". Same with Thors too imo. There's just so much interesting stuff to think about with this show.
@@hansfriedemann4194 Also goes back to what he was saying in the previous few episodes "someone has to do it, not a god, not a hero, just a person."
i remember when i saw this awesome episode, that thorfinn dagger drop is so meaningful and so moving. You will surely love the second season. Is totally more deep!
Thorfinn reaching out to Askeladd's dead body as he's being dragged away always gets me, he even dropped his father's dagger for it. Reaching out to his second father as he drops his real father's memento.
And also Askeladd telling Thorfinn; "Stay back" as he's approaching is often overlooked but it shows his care for Thorfinn. He knew Thorfinn would defend him, and he didn't want him to get involved in this mess by killing Floki or even Canute as he stabs Askeladd, therefore being an accomplice. He wants to take all the blame, not incriminating Canute and Thorfinn.
Thank you! The "Stay Back!" is one of my favourite Askeladd moments, it shows his true affection towards Thorfinn that grew over the years.
Vinland Saga finales are one of the best in anime. Each in their own ways. Brilliant show.
I didn't think season 2 would hold my attention after how incredible season 1 was, but it's just as good if not better. I teared up a lot.
In episode 23, to answer your question; my interpretation of the bars being closer to Leif than Thorfinn is it can be symbolic of how far in the darkness Thorfinn is having lived his life as a warrior. Leif is the little bit of light and hope he has to salvation. Even though Thorfinn is stuck in the life of a warrior, there is still a small chance that he can change his path if he decides to.
Still till this day one of the best anime episodes/moments ever askeladd was a phenomenal antagonist. One of the best first seasons in anime and season 2 is even better
Season 2 is definitely a 180 to season 1 and very intrigued about your thoughts once you watch it cause it’s my favourite arc of the whole manga so far.
Can't wait for your reactions to season 2! Probably some of the best character development of any anime series I've ever watched.
Thorfinn learned to love Askeladd. He hated him so much but also loved him. That's normal human behavior, I mean he spend much more time with Askeladd than his real father
What a journey my friend. Thank you for y our reactions and can't wait for season 2. It really goes deeper and just gets better imo.
And I'm happy that Thorfinn did not proceed with the finishing blow because like you said now: He has no purpose so what will he do?
"That's your real fight, Become a true warrior, son of Thors."
Yes, the production is under MAPPA but it is the SAME team that worked on it at WIT, so the style and passion of the production team is the same. The production team LOVES this material and you can see it in the quality of the story telling, the pacing, the art/animation, the OSTs, the OPs/EDs, the sound design, and story boarding are all peak. Looking forward to your second 2 reactions.
Thorfinn refraining to kill askalad in his sleep was him choosing to be a true c warrior
Well, it is true that Thorfinn thought he as acting by honor. And that's what he did back in Episode 5 when he refrained himself to kill Askeladd in sleep. Then, he lost any trace of honor, at least starting from the betrayal of the good woman who helped him in Episode 6. He became an hypocrite who murdered many people, some innocent, some heroic, some as bad as him, only to get his highly-desired honorable duel with Askeladd. And all for nothing. Because he did not realize that, somehow, he did what he did mostly to appease Askeladd, to show him he was a great warrior. In a way, he become affectionate to the man who killed his father. Subconsciously, he knows that, and that's the reason he kept repeating he is not one of Askeladd's men, but an enemy: He tried to convince himself of that. His rage grew exponentially, because he was not able to cope with his feelings, to the point that, while in Episode 8 he might have been some treat for Askeladd because he was still able to think straight, in Episode 22 he lost his cool head entirely and was badly beaten by Askeladd in few minutes. Now Thorfinn has learned he would never be able to kill Askeladd, not because he wants to do that with honor, but because he does not hate him enough. And that is making him unable to think straight.
Indeed, the true difference between Askeladd and Thorfinn is that the first one was old enough (11 years old) to be able to design the way to kill his father while faking love and respect for him, while the second was too young, and found a father figure in the man he kept saying he hated so much. Plus, the teaching of Thors are still there, somewhere in Thorfinn's mind, making him blaming himself to have started a path of vengeance against his father's will. Askeladd, instead, was only exposed to the delirious tales of his sick mother about an hero who never came helping them, making him to take a nihilistic perspective in his life.
In other words, Askeladd had no remorse in killing anyone, his father, the man he respected (Thors), some innocent villagers, his only friend and even himself, while Thorfinn is still able to feel the loss of someone, including the man he said he hated so much.
Your reaction was awesome🔥🔥🔥 Hope you will like the S2 👊🏼😁
Thorfinn’s journey truly starts from here I’m dying to see your season 2 reactions
This might be the first time i see someone wanting Thorfinn to actually kill Askeladd, it's interesting... But IMHO, i think Thorfinn having revenge on Askeladd would have been really bad for him.
I mean 1.- That would prove to Thorfinn that he was right about killing people, that's the way of living. 2.- Then, what? He might have been living without a purpose and probably never would have been able to find one (or even not wanting to), since he knows nothing else but to kill. That's the whole point of Askeladd final words, i believe.
I'm just sharing my thoughts, i loved your reaction anyways and i hope you react to S2~ Greetings from Chile.
You made it through the prologue!! Hell yea!! Eager to see what you think of season 2 when you get to it✌🏻 thank you for the journey this far!
The exaggeration of the characters and their strengths are actually straight from the 13th century Icelandic folk stories "The Vinland Sagas".
Interesting!
“That wasn’t a vital area right?” nah just the heart
アシュラットの最後感動しました、シーズン2も終わりましたが良かったですね。
I think the framing of lief being closer to the bars while in the light could be him being bound by his obligation to Thors?
i just finished first season, it was beautiful
Watching S1 the first time I was rooting for Thorfinn to get his vengeance, from when Askeladd first killed Thors to even later on as Thorfinn changed and became the very thing his father never wanted because if he didn't it felt like it would have all been for nothing.
So my first reaction to the finale was a mixture of shock, confusion, frustration, and immediate curiosity to know what comes next so I just jumped straight into the manga. The following arc became my favorite of all manga/anime and I was desperate to see it animated, and now that it finally did this year I couldn't be happier with how it was handled.
But to bring it back to this finale, Thorfinn not getting revenge was frustrating at first but as you said it set him free. If he had gotten his revenge like Askeladd had done with his father I think Thorfinn would have continued being trapped in the cycle of violence. Like the way I'd see it play out in that scenario is he'd be in disbelief that he had finally done it, then that disbelief would change to emptiness and he'd probably continue as a warrior in Canute's army or in some other mercenary group just to fill the void.
So as rough as it was for Thorfinn in this moment and for awhile afterwards, I think it was the best thing that could happen to him for his true journey to begin.
33:49 but that's what would have trapped Thorfinn in a never-ending cycle of violence. For all of Askeladds faults the one redeeming thing he wanted was for Thorfinn to let go of hatred and move forward with his life. He was far from perfect but I think his journey with Thorfinn made him finally realise that its a waste to live with hate in your heart.
I look forward to seeing your reactions to the next season!
"He's just trying to get in your head" yeah and Askeladd is about to take HIS head
I just want to say that season 2 is life changer
LUCIUS ARTORIUS CASTUS💥
I want to be a real man like Askeladd : Patriot, caring people who trust him and straight like a Celtic Hero. Hail Lucius Artorius Castus, The hero of Cymru (Wales) and subs father of Thorfinn.
LOL. it's just thorfinn is laying down
Asklad hated the Vikings and was consistent in defending his mother's country, "Wales". The King was sharp enough to see this in an instant, but the sacrifice of Asklad's life was beyond the King's expectations.
The last episode was so fast-paced that I read it over and over again in the comic.
Congratulations on completing the prologue.
And... I think the correct translation would be.
【I know he is your vassal, But dog should be handled by his own masters.】
【I know he is your vassal, The wrongdoing of a vassal should be ended by his master.】
28:13 literally my same reaction back when i watched it 😂
The characters at the end are new characters that are yet to be introduced don’t worry if you didn’t recognize any of them
In episode 24, the invisible onion-cutting master constantly pounces on the viewer.
Ah, so you've become one of the victims, just like the other streamers.
Just wait until she gets to S2 E9 😅
We need S2 reactions it’s peak😭😭
poor thorfinn lost two dads.
The best advise comes from the best enemy and one of the best ending in anime history.
First season is 10/10 and more action
Second season is 12/10 and more depth
I cant wait ur nxt season
too bad you missed the episode title, I love when reactors react to that haha
I didn’t! My reaction to it is there
I think you're a little confused, Thorfinn never wanted to kill Askeladd, he cared for him.
Wrong
He cared for him but he still wanted to kill him with all his heart. He would just be sad and extremely confused if he did kill him, but he wanted to kill him, he hated him.
@@niftylittlename In the end, he didn't hate him at all, if it was true, why didn't he kill him when Askeladd proposed to Thorfinn? He care about him, no discussion.
@@iremainteague5653 No
@@niftylittlename If not true, why did Thorfinn attack canute? what you say doesn't make sense, Thorfinn hated Askeladd at the beginning of the show but not at the end
"Just DO IT, Thorfin"
Damn, she really misunderstood the show like that.
_seek revenge there's nothing you can achieving, it's never enough, it's cost what you lost._
Season 2 is goated
Daddy Slayer 3: the last slay
Season 2 will break your Heart
Season 2 next 😊
