My topper clips were very uncomfortable in the beginning, but my skin seems to have toughened up, and I barely notice them now. I make my toppers out of wigs (there are UA-cam videos on how to do it), so I can make the base as large as I want. Many toppers are wide enough, but don’t go back far enough, I find. Also, there are many more choices of color and texture with wigs. I’m a natural cool ash blonde, and my best topper colors are Belle Tress blonde shades in heat-friendly synthetic fiber.

@@lifebeyondlocks Thanks! It’s very satisfying to create a custom topper just as I want. Re: clips hurting, in thinking about it, I realized that they hurt more in the beginning when I wore the smaller bases because they clip into more fragile hair toward the top of my head. Since I make larger bases now and clip them into stronger hair lower on my head, I have virtually no discomfort! Another interesting tip I discovered is that synthetic toppers are substantially cooler in summer than human hair toppers. Living in FL during the incredibly hot and steamy summers, that’s been a life-saver!

The first time I tried I topper, I wore all day long with no pain at all. It was so comfortable I would forget I was wearing it. I don't have a lot of hair loss, so my topper wasn't heavy. BUT! Later I got another topper because I wanted some waves. It was much heavier and more dense. And those clips hurt.

Thanks for making this video! I struggle to find a topper that will stay in place. The reason I need a topper is because the thinning at my hairline and the top of my head. I simply don’t have enough bio hair at my temples and hairline to hold it in place. Such a bummer, I’ve spent hundreds on several that just sit in the box on the shelf! I watched a video recently where the woman had only one clip in her topper at the very back of her head, and she used a loop of clear jewelry elastic to hold the front of the topper down. The clear jewelry elastic went over her topper and around her head exactly how you would wear one of those stretchy hairbands that go all the way around your head, i.e. the elastic went over the topper at the front of her head and down the sides behind her ears, but was under the topper hair and her own hair at the very back of her neck (she'd put all the topper hair and her own hair into a ponytail to put the jewelery elastic on, and then took the ponytail out when the elastic was in place.)
Or, just use one clip at the back, and a regular hairband at the front to hold the topper in place!

Oh, I just came across this video where the woman sewed a loop of jewelry elastic to the UNDERSIDE of the front of the hair topper, which might be even better than wearing a loop of jewelry elastic OVER the topper like a hairband! ua-cam.com/video/3i51QIB8dY8/v-deo.html

Yes, I definitely prefer a comb or nothing at all on the front hairline. Wearing it does take getting used to, but I promise that it gets better with time. It took me a few weeks. I have a short hair topper. It’s very light and like some of the other comments, at first I wore it all day with no I’ll effects. The very best option to help secure my topper and having to put way less pressure on the clips. Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze (the yellow can spray from got2b available pretty much everywhere). I spray the top of my head with it than apply my topper and hold it in place a minute or so until the spray dries. Then I clip my clips but at that point, they are only for added security. I have no discomfort what so ever all day, no pulling and my bra goes way before my hair lol. Try it, its only around 10-12$ (canadian for me so maybe even less elsewhere) It has changed my life.

Hi Lisa. I would suggest spaying the cap with some water to dampen it, and then let it dry on your head- this will help it to form to the shape of your head. I also suggest sizing up in cap size if you have a 7x8 or smaller, since going up in cap size was a game changer for me. You're welcome to send me a DM on Instagram with a pic of inside of the cap and of it on your head; I might be able to troubleshoot better with a visual. 😊

Halo was the first hair piece I got I started with the regular Halo itself and then I got the fall hybrid to go with it. For me, it's about getting it to form to your head, blending with bio hair, and getting lift in the front.

@@cjw8817 honestly, I felt that my first Highline looked a little wiggy when I started to wear it, but after awhile, I found a way to blend that worked for me. Silktop toppers are all going to be heavier - it's the cap construction, so you may wish to consider lace top or silk top with lace front. They have a shorter lifespan, and knots are visible unlike silk, but they will have less hair at the front hairline. Best of luck. My DMs are open.

So I have personally purchased from the following companies: highline wigs and toppers, serenity, Halo, hidden crown. I would have to say out of all of them the serenity is my absolute favorite and my go-to because of how light it actually is and less dense than all the other brands. I sent my highline back because it was so awful I couldn't even imagine wearing it once because of how heavy and wiggy and fake it felt. And never ever buy from Halo they are just the worst company out there and I'm surprised they haven't gone out of business cuz I know they don't get return business. So I would stick with your serenity I know it's a personal choice for everyone but these are very expensive to buy so you don't want to make mistakes. It's going to feel a little heavy at first just because you're not used to it, so I recommend wearing it for a few weeks before making that decision and then if it's still feels a little too thick and dense and heavy for you take it to a stylist who actually knows how to cut toppers and have them just thin it out for you a little bit and that should help! Good luck on your journey! 🤍
