Nice clip from the 2002 Kennedy Center revival production in Washington DC... See: www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/index.cfm?fuseaction=showEvent=TCCMP
Ms. Ripley - I have not been lucky enough to see you onstage and pardon me for watching this bootleg video but your performance of this number has given me so much pleasure. Bless you.
I frickin' LOVE LOVE LOVE Alice Ripley sooo much! She is soo awesome in this video! and may I add that I am loving that hairstyle and color on her. She looks gorgeous here.
I was so lucky to have seen this production in DC. I like that it's posted to re-live the memory. The afternoon I saw this, the applause at the end of this number was long, and I remember just about the time the applause started to die down we all gave it another HUGE rush and it lasted more than a full minute! It was a wonderful cast! Alice and Emily, Matt Bogard, John Barrowman, Lynn Redgrave, Walter Charles. Magic, pure Magic. To top it off, Barrowman performed during the Millennium Concerts.
This is the best performance I have seen of this song. Alice did such a great job, I did not recognize her at first! This woman: one day I want to sit down and have coffee with her, or maybe an herbal tea because of... the wedding.
With the exception of Heather Laws (revival) and Beth Howland (OBC), I've never heard someone articulate the lyrics so crisply while maintaining the fast speed of the song. And I think she has the best breath control. And... it's fucking hilarious. Love Alice!!!
I'd say this is the best version of GETTING MARRIED TODAY I've seen just about anywhere. And probably the best actress who ever sang it! I've been looking all over for that, but now I think I've found her! ALICE RIPLEY, probably the best Amy I think I will ever hear, and now a Tony winner as well!
I must say, though I didn't like the opening number, this one was amazing! One of the best! Alice was so well spoken with the song, I could understand everything! Something hard to do.
@RIPLEYTHEBAND I know this is illegal, but i am thankful for it, because without it i would never be able to see how wonderful you were in this! love from a poor british broadway fan ;)
HAHA WELL I TRIED AS USUAL TO BE AS DIRECT AS POSSIBLE. EXCUSE MY BRUSQUE MANNER, BUT YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO ASK FOR MY PERMISSION ("MY" WOULD HAVE BEEN IN CAPS FOR EMPHASIS). ALSO, WHY ARE YOU SITTING IN A THEATRE FILMING A SHOW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO IT? IT IS A SERIOUS SIGN OF DISRESPECT. HOW MANY OTHER ILLEGAL VIDS DO YOU POSSESS? PUT DOWN THE CAMERA AND WATCH THE PERFORMANCE WITH YOUR OWN EYES, HEART AND MIND. JUST DO THE RIGHT THING.

I felt exactly the same way. I love how she takes it up at the end, it makes the song so much better!!!
I love that last note!!! I was surprised (in a good way) on a song I've heard 1000 times
Still gives me chills. This was the first time I ever experienced a mid-show standing ovation.

How cool is it that Alice commented on this!?!?! Thank God she is "allowing" you to leave this up, because it is just what I need.

I loved Alice in NtN, and didn't even notice it was her! Brilliant. Testament to how good an actress she is, I think.

Emily Skinner is singing Jenny's part, and Alice Ripley is Amy. I don't know who Paul is, though.

Is that Matt Bogart playing Paul?
