I never thought the much loved British beans on toast to be appealing or appetizing. Nothing about it sounded good. But I am currently sick with a respiratory virus and too tired to cook and for some reason I can’t fathom I looked in my cupboard, saw two cans of pork and beans in a tomato sauce and immediately thought of beans on toast! I’ve never had it yet but my brain went there. So I decided why not? Even when heating and putting it together, much like you did here, I couldn’t fathom what people saw in this pairing. Well I am here to say this was surprisingly good! I can’t put my finger on it but it definitely went down like comfort food! Then I did something that seems more disgusting and put a teaspoon of mayo on each bean covered toast and this became something I would definitely eat again and again.
Kingsford Beans. Boiled down with brisket broth or liquid smoke. Boiled down to a syrup like. Liberal butter on toast.. Add the beans.. Serve with milk.... 😊😊😊
I'm American and I just bought my baked beans so I can try this dish. If I can't go to the U.K to try this then I might as well make it myself lol. Looks really yummy 😋
Use Showboat or Van Camp's pork and beans. Also put some Lea and Perrin Worcestershire sauce on the beans, and sprinkle some shredded cheddar cheese on top.
@@johnathankrage83 I’ve been living in America for just over 3 years now and the American beans are definitely NOTHING like the baked beans back home. They’re sweet! 🤢 I pay just over £2.40 for a can of Heinz baked beans. Daylight robbery but it’s got to be done.
@@ESKATEUK Never heard of it til recently. I’m from Ohio. Beans and toast is strange and kinda funny to people from Ohio. Usually those kind of beans we use for cookouts: brats, hamburgers and potato salad. I like some stuff you might find strange: ketchup on eggs, and biscuits with sausage gravy and hot sauce.
I can't believe I am watching this. Since I soak my beans and cook them from scratch. But I learned something anyway. Using a vegetable peeler for cold butter. I use a cheese slicer and the slices are to thick😊
Try this instead: Butter 2 slices of toast and place on a plate, cutting each slice into 9 squares using a pizza cutter. On the stove, pour a small can of cream style corn into a small pot and heat, adding a dash of sugar and a dash of black pepper or cayenne pepper. Pour the heated corn onto the buttered toasted squares. Enjoy!
Yes, you can get branston beans, you could get Waitrose baked beans or M&S baked beans. In fact you could even get baked beans with gold flakes, but they're still not as good as Heinz.
I'm pretty sure some chopped bacon fried to crisp and add some chopped onions to the bacon and sautee until tender, ketchup, mustard and brown sugar will perfect the beans.
Ok, let's have a proper beans on toast recipe. I do the same except I cook the beans on low for about half an hour to make thick. I use a lot of butter. I'm lazy I use sliced bread, and room tem butter. For a treat I add mushy bananas to the beans.( just joking)
Oh my word, you can use pre-sliced bread. And a toaster works just fine. Also, you do not need to use a vegetable peeler to shave your butter, just use a knife and for goodness sake, spread the butter! This recipe was almost like “how can I make a simple recipe so much more difficult!?”
I love seeing how people whine about doing beans on toast and oh mate you whine good! MY biggest whine is that I put the beans on the side of the plate so the toast doesn't go all soggy.
Remember you want the British variant of beans if possible, most American cans of baked beans have loads of added sugar and it tastes really bad and sickly, much better with the unsweetened version trust me.
This is so wrong it's painful to watch But you got the best beans, so well done on that. Using a toaster would be easier. Reducing the beans more would make the dish more tasty and thick and luxurious and easier to eat due to less sloppiness. Leaving your butter out of the fridge would make it easily spreadable so no need for that crazy peeler business. I eat beans on toast using wholemeal bread because it's nicer. I also eat beans on toast at least 3 evenings per week so I'm a seasoned bean head.

Gluten intolerant here, will the recipe still work without toast?
What kind of baked beans? Are baked beans in the UK the same as in the USA?
Ok, let's have a proper beans on toast recipe.
Ingredients:
Tin of [proper UK] baked beans
2 slices of bread (whatever you prefer)
Butter
2 slices of bacon (back or streaky, preferably smoked)
Light olive oil (or sunflower oil)
Freshly ground black pepper
Frying pan
Method:
Remove excess fat/rind from the bacon
Chop the bacon into bite sized lardons
Put a little oil in the pan and fry your bacon until just short of crispy
Toast bread the way you like it
Remove bacon from pan but leave a little of the oil
Empty tin of beans into pan (careful if oil is still hot)
Add generous amount of black pepper
Stir beans until oil incorporated
Add back the bacon lardons
Remove toast from toaster, let cool for a while, then butter generously
Cook beans until sauce starts to reduce and thicken (you'll find the consistency you like)
Remove pan from heat
Pour beans & bacon over buttered toast
Enjoy with a fresh cup of breakfast tea (or coffee) and/or a glass of orange juice
Alternative method:
Do away with the toast
Don't cut up the bacon
Throw in 2/3 breakfast sausages when frying bacon
Enjoy bacon, sausage & beans with a couple of slices of fresh bread to mop up the sauce
My Dad taught me this way of cooking baked beans or bacon & beans many years ago. He was a big fan of Western movies and he used to call them his Cowboy Beans.
