Dear Shaykh Hamza, jazakAllahu kahyr. You've been very helpful to myself and countless youth around the world. May Allah bless you immensely, thank you so very much :) BarakAllahu feekum
Having grown-up in the upper middle class outside of DC, my dad always asked me what did for a strange today? It caused be to dedicated my life as a building/design firm in concert with NGO's. We build, remodeled future group homes in Maryland. Homes for the disabled, both physically & mentally, drug rehab & battered spouse shelters . . . I caused me to land in South East Asia to live for short periods of time. Seeing life from the other side and the oppression driven by goals of US hegemony. Hope is a word I don't use. I work against the super-structure of entrenched power because it speaks to my ethos, my soul as a humanitarian. And it reminds me of the words of Jones- "I regret I have but one life to offer . . ." I do these things out of love and empathy for my grand kids and the kids I will never know. I am my brothers keeper.
You are so right about American 'hope', which goes hand in hand with the equally American emphasis on optimism, happy endings and progress, as was pointed out to me by Europeans years ago. It is an indoctrinated hope, and it keeps people complacent, unquestioning, comfortable with the status quo and acquiescent. Nobody means it should be replaced by hopelessness, but with faith, independent thought, the accurate observation of reality, and the search for truth.
i have recently discovered Chris Hedges only two days ago, and have watched his speech entitled "the ultimate Trump takedown" on UA-cam. i was so blown away by him, he's truly amazing. i believe it would mean a great deal for us if Zaytuna can upload the full conversation here. thank you.
I think that there’s something to be says about how important the physical world is in the sense that it is a representation of a spiritual or metaphysical world. Being mindful of that to means that we can have a balance between human society and nature and also understand that I will never be perfect and that that is necessary for grace. But that the distance between what we could have and what we have is vast. The distance between embracing necessary evil while working to a net good vs exacerbating and embracing unnecessary evils is the difference between despair and happiness on a societal level.
The day of judgment. When the polluters, the cruel, the despicable will be brought to justice. The people will still be dying from poisoned water, people will still bear the scars and trauma of torture, people will still be living in poverty and peonage of the oligarchy and their children. But there will be some divine justice. But those that have no such belief, but understand the reality of the current injustice, must demand the justice of the present. Injustice must be called out and a society must be shaped so that it can exact justice in this life. We must abandon the hope that those who viciously or indifferently destroy the lives of their fellow human beings will be brought to a reckoning by an imagined deity.
What a pleasant surprise to see two of the great American intellectuals in conversation, Chris Hedges and Hamza Yusus.

Wow. This had me in tears. How powerful.
Very inspiring and morally strengthening. Thank you
The power of truth and doing what is right has a spiritual implication that many never see until the end.

It is mentioned in Hadeeth that people (calling to goodness ) on the edges of society, will be standing on pulpits of light on judgment day.
"Those that help others who cannot go and get help for themselves, Allah will make their feet firm on the day of judgment"
"Hadeeth" ?!? There's about a million hadeeth can you cite it? Is it sahih? Hassan? Da'if? Most overly flowery ahadeeth are usually weak
That foursome has a hell of a lot more intellectual horsepower than any four in the current administration (you pick).
Beautiful … MashaAllah

Thank you for uploading this!
Of course. Thanks for watching.

Hope, like despair, is an illusion born of clinging to an impermanent self. As I mature I try to leave both of them behind.
I seem to remember Hope being the last thing in Pandoras Box
Please quote the chapter and verse.
Babys/ New life gives me hope even when I don’t want it.😑
Is there a video where Hamza Yusuf talks about his faith ?
Yea he has a number of videos. He is a muslim and also runs his own institute. Just punch in his name.
Not on our channel, but I'm sure you can find that elsewhere online.
