*Vader takes the final swing at Obi, who begins to fade into nothing* *Vader stops before the blade connects and Obi returns to normal* 'What. The. Fuck. Are. You. Doing?' "I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine, Darth." *Vader proceeds to move his blade closer to Obi again who becomes increasingly transparent, before returning to normal again as he draws back* 'This is total bullshit Kenobi. I've been drinking fucking liquid ramen through a straw for 20 years. Let me have this!'
there is actually an ability like that in the expanded universe that was used by a jedi that survived order 66. good one though, would have been funny and practical if he could do that
KingExituS I'm not the most well versed in Star Wars but I think, him trying to not taking anakin as a padawan was a hint a of selfishness, and when he went against the wishes of the Jedi council and went to save the duchess even when they said he could not. Also he held on too anakin like a brother even though that was not allowed. Idk it's my opinion you're of course entitled to your own
get iced Well, from my point of view what you mentioned were not really out of selfishness. Unlike the rest of the Jedi council, Obi Wan believed his master's assumption that Anakin was the chosen one, taking Anakin as his Padawan was a great responsibility, it's not a decision you would make without thinking it through. As he rushed to save Satine, he didn't put anyone in danger but himself, so basically it wasn't a selfish act either.
Didn't Obi-Wan once say to Anakin, "Why do I have the feeling you're going to be the death of me?" - I want to thank all of the people who liked and commented on this post. I never got more than 400 likes and you all make me feel knowledgeable. I'm gonna go back to drinking and partying like I was doing three years ago when i made this comment.
"Vader's fighting style was completely retooled, and would've been impossible to predict" * cut to two old men cautiously poking at each other with sticks *
So to put into perspective just how powerful Anakin/Vader was in the force, it took Qui Gon 10 years to partially return from the dead as a force ghost, Obi Wan a few years to fully return (Not just voice form which happend immediately) Yoda a few days/weeks, while it took Anakin without any training at all just a few hours. That is how powerful he was.
And how do you know this? Jedi only will return to the corporeal world if they see the need to do so. Just because we didn't see Ben or Yoda return immediately after death doesn't mean they couldn't. Most of them probably could, after dying, knowing the secret of immortality. Is there a legends/canon text confirming this theory or is it just your assumption?
Anakin overthrew Palpatine in the end. Literally. He did what was foretold and tipped the favor in that of the Jedi in the e.u. Plus, as a character in the books and films, Anakin seems....different, by a long shot. He did enough right until he was broke by Palpatine. He then undid Palpatine. Not unheard of for a Sith to redeem themselves in the light. Anakin was also vastly powerful for his age and when he lost his one hand, he still continued to kick ass.
I think Anakin could only kill Palatine because he was close to him. Keep your enemies closer is the ancient adage. He always wanted to over throw the Emperor even in the original trilogy. He was able to hide his ultimate feelings from the Emperor due to the emperor's flaws with the darkside...it seems the Sith has power but their character flaws are a their inherent weakness.
I can't remember where I read/saw the theory, but there is a theory that Obi-Wan gave his life to signify the ability to accept loss and forego attachment. “Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.” - Yoda “The fear of loss is a path to the Dark Side.” - Yoda Darth Vader throughout the series has the inability to accept loss and death. This is seen with his mother and with his wife. He turn to the dark side to avoid loss. It is not until the end of the movie, that he accepts loss and transform into the force like Obi-Wan and Yoda.
So what you're saying is that Obi-Wan, in his last moments... Trolled Vader by not giving him the kill ? Wow. He died as he lived. As a true Lord of the Trolls. Edit: Welp that's a first ! I never expected to reach that much likes. Thanks guys !
Vader: When you left me, I was but a learner, but now I am the master! Kenobi: Master at getting caught! *disappears and becomes force ghost* Vader: >:((((((
I was like 5 when I seen star wars back in the day and I’ll admit I cried when Obi faded away( thinking he died) His character was very loving and charismatic. At the tome none of us thought what this meant till the end of the movie and then later in the films. To this day Obi wan Kenobi is my favorite hero of all time .
Kenobi was absolutely manipulating Luke to hate Vader. He lied to Luke about his father to advance his own agenda and knew that Luke would not kill Vader if he knew that Vader was his father
I disagree. Obi-Wan could not accept the choice that Anakin had made. They were nothing alike, the Anakin he knew compared to the Vader in front of him. He had to believe that Anakin was dead and replaced with this souless Vader because the pain of that revelation was utterly soul destroying for him. The the truth was just too painful for him accept. It was easier to believe a lie and avoid the far more painful truth. His decades of lonely rumination simply over-flow onto Luke. Fortunately, Luke didn't carry the same pain about Anakin that Obi-Wan did. He trusted the force, trusted what he sensed, and it paid off for both Luke and Anakin. Good boy Luke.
Rykrai. I guess there was no way to really tell Luke the truth. "By the way, I cut off your fathers limbs and left him to get burned and die a slow excruciating death."
Obi had a good chance at beating Vader. Obi-wan had chopped down Maul, Grievous, and Vader before. Obi only lost to Dooku because Anakin got in the way. Obi-wan = the most underrated savage of combat
Yes I did So that Luke would see Darth killing me and would never join hands with Darth Vader That's the reason I said 'if u strike me Darth I shall become more powerful than u could ever imagine' So Luke would remain a Jedi
Obi wan :- *I spend years to learn how to gain the ghost formation after the death* Yoda :- *I spend decades to learn that ability* Anakin :- *Wait . Did you guys learned that ??*
Anakin somehow learns how to come back as a force ghost with Kenobi at the end of ROTJ but its not clear as to how he's able to. I mean hell, he turned to light side enough in time to kill Palps. It still doesnt tell why and how he went from not even being aware that coming back as a force ghost is possible to doing it along side Yoda and Kenobi who actually did learn it and know about it. My guess is that Jedi who can return as force ghosts can guide other fallen force users and teach them. Perhaps Yoda and Kenobi summoned Anakin to Luke at the end of ROTJ and his being there was because of Obi Wan and Yoda?
I got a question why did Palatine want the Death Star cause even Vader seemed against the idea of it by saying there is no stronger power then the force. I don't know I always got the feeling Vader didn't care much for the Death Star and that Palatine seemed obsessed with it
Palpatine was a coward. Incredibly powerful, but feared losing that power. Palpatine thought it was a way to instill fear and be the ultimate weapon. Vader saw it as a big weakness confining people into a smaller place granted it was huge.
Chernbyl STALKER I was wondering the same thing tbh until I read the recent Rogue One Novel 'Catalyst'. It basically explains that during the Clone Wars, the Separatists try to build one but the Republic get the plans (through Palpatine/Sidious) and build one instead. Obviously it doesn't get completed until the Empire is formed and by then Palpatine is only interested in using the weapon to cause fear and stop any uprising against his Empire
zachyj94 I knew about that the whole separatists having the death Star it's actually in the clone wars movie too for a brief moment they gave the plans to Dooku I believe
Anakin was aware of the potential of the Living Force, though not aware of Force Ghosts. Palpatine was steeped in the Dark Side, which principally says that if you corrupt you can control the Force. By creating the Death Star, palpatine hoped to create more Dark Side energy for him to manipulate, by doing evil acts he thought he could control more of the force. Meanwhile Anakin, a pawn his whole life, cared very little for control. He knew the power of the dark side, he stated it clearly over and over, he wasn't lying. There is real power in the Dark Side - personal empowerment. He allowed the Dark Side to control him completely, even palpatine, and in doing so gained a semblance of unlife beyond when he should have died - he felt its potential beyond Palpatine's ambitions. Rule the galaxy with an iron hand, literally, but he personally was a slave. This wasn't just a lack of ambition - Anakin's power in the force controller him his whole life. To him letting the force guide his actions was natural - the order had stopped him from doing so, and to him the Dark Side represented freedom, a chance to really use his power. It's why he was so unaware of its limits when fighting Obi Wan.
Took me a while to understand this moment. Despite being born in 97, I watched the original trilogy all the time at a young age, and Obi Wan's sacrifice is the moment from A New Hope that stuck out the most for me, not only for confusing me, but just for being a powerful scene. It wasn't until years later that I could fully grasp why he let himself lose out side of "there would be no movie".
If Obi-wan had sacrificed himself by studying years upon years how to return as a ghost, why was young anakin able to return as the same ghost on Endor when they are celebrating his death?
I think it is due to Anakin being the chosen one and so he was very strong in the force, that’s why he learned it so fast and Yoda and Obi-Wan told him how to do it
3:05 "Unlike Maul, Vader's fighting style was completely retooled and would have been impossible to predict" Vader's fighting style: **slowly pokes with stick**
Depends on which part of the Legacy you look at. Some creators have Vader taking them as trophies, others have him having to present the sabers to Palpatine as evidence he was doing his job, who than kept them for his collection.
Yeah, like stamps... but way cooler! *psssuu wa waah* *crackle* *hum* Palpatine: Vader are you playing with your toys again? *phssst* Vader: No... Palpatine: Good.
Ben: "Ah yes... the Princess... remind me Luke after we get off this space station to tell you something very important... you really need to know it before you get too obsessed with her"
I've always felt that Obi Wan could have defeated Vader/Anakin again on their meating on the 1st Death Star. He let Vader kill him so Luke and the others could escape the Death Star. At the point of their duel on the Death Star there was no way Obi Wan could have escaped even if he beat Vader. He was trapped and he knew it however Luke and the others still had a chance to escape and they did because of Obi Wan's actions or inaction.
It's dumbed down to the will of the force. Obi Wan was trained to be tranquil and accepting of any fate the force was going to give him. One way or another Obi Wan couldn't have killed Vader if he tried
No way man. Vader had far surpassed Obi-Wan at that point. In the original Ep.4 novel, Obi-Wan is basically being pushed back by just the pressure of Vader's Force power. When he says "your powers are weak..." He means it. Obi knew he couldn't win and sacrificed himself for the greater good.
Eh...I don't really buy into that. Anakin was ALWAYS a much better fighter than Obi Wan but Obi Wan was the smarter more focused of the 2. The downfall of the Sith has always been their unabashed arrogance and in that sene we see that Vader hasn't changed in that regards. Obi Wan was playing him so Luke could get off the Death Star. At this point Obi Wan is still protecting Luke from the Empire and his father. I'm not saying Vader isn't bad ass because we all know he is but Obi Wan is smarter, he always was. At this point Obi Wan has been on his own doing almost nothing but engulfing himself deeper into the Force. This is why he took out Maul in 3 pathetic moves. I'm almost certain that if this fight happened somewhere else like in a different setting and Luke wasn't present the old man would have won again. All just my opinion of course.
What an interesting topic. I am somewhat in the middle as I love both of the characters. But you are correct Moses, he spent all his time their training and studying the force, he definitely wasn't a weak old man. In a way he needed to die for the story to progress but I would love to see a modern fight between the two. I can't make my mind up on who would win but I slightly edge it to Obi-wan. Especially because he was unhindered in his force abilities and could have really showed us some amazing moves.
Moses Garner I think we will always side with the character that we like, but if you go and research exactly where their power levels were at, Vader had exceeded him substantially. He also was not a fool anymore, he was being cautious with Obi Wan, not wanting to make a mistake again. I do understand your point of view, but Vader was just too powerful and intelligent by this time. Also as the video points out Vader's fighting style was something new, a hybrid. plus his cybernetics made his blows incredibly powerful. I'm not saying that it is absolutely impossible for Obi-Wan to win, just unlikely.
Matt Thornton because he wanted to be great like Yoda and obi wan Look at the smirk on his face at the end of this video It's literally saying "Haha nah nah nah nah boo boo I'm one of the greats and Kit Fisto and all the other Jedi besides Qui Gonn, Yoda, And Obi wan are not HAHA in their faces"! 5 seconds later All the other Jedi appear and Anikan gets exposed
When my time comes Forget the wrong that I've done Help me leave behind some Reasons to be missed And don't resent me And when you're feeling empty Keep me in your memory Leave out all the rest Leave out all the rest
I think it was slightly manipulative of Obi-Wan and Yoda to try and make Luke destroy Vader, but tbh they did see him murder younglings, destroy their order, and side with the Sith. They knew things they could never tell Luke, and saw him as their last hope for the galaxy, so I understand why they did it. As Yoda says when Luke finds out Vader is his father - "How unfortunate this is...." because they need him to kill Vader, and as much as they would have liked to turn him back, they didn't think it at all possible. I always thought this moment was strange but I kinda understand it now. Especially how, Obi-Wan knew Vader would be searching for him and it would be hard for him as an old man to adventure around with Luke and teach him, this way, as a Force Ghost, he could always help him with all risk eliminated. That is some trust in Qui-Gon's teachings tho lol.
You know peoples logic just makes no sense anymore these days. What is more likely: Obi-Wan letting Vader kill him to distract him and prevent him from noticing Luke? Obi-Wan fighting Vader till the death thereby distracting Vader and maybe even killing him for good? How can Vader be stopping Luke if he is busy fighting a "Master" Knock yourself out!
Exactly correct if you think distraction was the goal. I don't think so. The ONLY reason I can think of for Obi Wan to allow Vader to win at that moment was so that Luke and the rebels wouldn't try to rescue him and risk getting caught. It wasn't about distraction because clearly the battle was distracting the soldiers quite well. If they (or just Luke) attempted to save Obi Wan instead of fleeing everything could be lost. So he clearly let them(Luke) see he was beyond saving, forcing them to run while the tractor beam was down and they still had a chance.
That Obi-Wan slow spin move while fighting Vader is one of the funniest scenes and cinema history. That whole fight looked like 2 old school martial arts masters fighting at a nursing home lol. Having said that, Obi-Wan had control that whole fight. He may not be as strong as Vader force wise, but he had more wisdom and control over himself emotionally. Obi-Wan is Vader’s Achilles heel. I do not believe Vader could ever beat him.
While I love the fact and thought that Obi-Wan denied Vader his ultimate goal I think Obi-Wan could have easily escaped the deathstar and that he could have been a valuable asset to the Rebellion
By sacrificing himself he not only pushed Luke toward becoming a Jedi, but also shook Vader’s faith in the dark side and Palpatine because he joined the dark side to try and cheat death and the lightside had done just that. In the end Obi Wan will and always will be the master of trolling.
This video is spot on with its analysis. I've always known about his sacrifice and makes sense in order to help Luke in the force rather than of just died. I figured this out many years ago but did take time to realise it was intentional
Considering the first time I ever saw the scene was when I was a 6 year old, I didn't get it all, I even remember actually saying to my mom watching it with me, "Why did he just give up?" She never answered. of course re-watching it and growing up it obviously makes a lot more sense now. I also believe that Obi-Wan very well could have escaped with everyone on the Falcon, but I assume he decided not too since he knew if he did run for it, either he'd be vulnerable from the force from Vader as he tried or that if he did make it to the ship, Vader would be a lot more aggressive in trying to stop them fleeing, Obi Wan didn't know the Falcon was being tracked, but he knew Vader would want him, As such Vader might have even 'forgot' his plan with Tarkin to track the Falcon to Yavin and may have dispatched a lot more pursuers than the 4 ties we see in the film. By that note we may have had an alternative scenario of the Falcon and crew being destroyed, but Yavin would remain undiscovered with the DS plans lost completely, leaving both sides in a middle ground as the Empire would have no idea of where the rebel presence would be and the Rebels would lack the means and possibly wits to attack the DS. In that scenario I think the Empire would end up winning in the end.
Hey man, what about a video detailing Obi-Wan breaking thru Vader and Anakin snapping out of the dark side. Perhaps during their duel? Maybe something worse happens like a lava eruption and they watch the platform Padame was on melt away? Vader would most likely lash out at Obi-Wan... Still I think that might be an interesting premise, a 'bro-demption' lol
For me Obi Wan allowed Anakin to strike him to release the anger of Anakin. We all know that Anakin has a deep anger to Obi Wan. He is blaming Obi Wan for everything. He knows that if Anakin will kill him, then Anakin's goal will be done. We saw that Vader asked Luke to team up with him to fight the Emperor. During that time, Anakin's anger is released and he wants to make everything right.
I watched the scene when I was 6 for the first time and really struggled with his decision - I couldn't figure out why he didn't give it everything he had and go down swinging? It always bothered me that he gave up - and honestly it's been decades but it still bothers me. But I also understand that Lucas was basing the story arc of Luke on The Hero's Journey and he read Joseph Campbell where Kenobi is the Mentor and the last real connection of the old life Luke had on tattoonie and so for Luke to cross the threshold in his Hero's journey all connections to the old world must be severed and the Hero must be alone on his journey (or with new friends found along the way) - so Kenobi had to die because Lucas didn't expect to be able to make more than one Star Wars film or if he knew how successful it would be he might have kept Kenobi around a little longer
i dont understand why sith cant be force ghosts, i always saw force as a spectrum, dark side users are maybe "bad" but why should the force limit them in their knowleadge and stuffs? i never saw dark side as "the weaker one" or "less prefered by the force itself" because the force is both and all between, why should the dark side be less?
Because it probably only allows you to become a ghost when you have inner peace and give up attachments. The sith are too attached to their power and the fear of losing it. Not to mention they crave conflict so they will never accept peace.
I don't think that the dark side is weaker at all. They gain more power than the practitioners of the light but all they really get is power and the need to exercise it upon others. The perfection of the dark side is power that must have an exterior object to overcome and dominate. The dark side adept is always divided within themselves since their perfection does not lie within themselves. The Light side finds completion in perfect peace. The conflict within is overcome and finished and the light side adept becomes at one with the force and themselves. They may never be as powerful as the dark siders but they can achieve spiritual purity which grants them oneness with the force. The force is a unity of all things. The dark must always make a division between wielder of power and object of power, and thus no oneness with the force is possible for the dark side. That, at least, is how I understand it.
The dark side is the less preferred thogh because it twists the Force! It was explained somewhere (don't know where xD) that when users of the Dark Side use the force they twist the very nature of it, making it unnatural, whereas the Light Side molts its pure state based on iner peace!
In opinion. Not so sure according to those Topps Trading Cards showing her going underneath the sith temple wading through the water with a convoree leading the way to an opening up some stairs physically. We would know soon enough what we might not expect according to Dave Filoni.
Another option though a bit unlikely is perhaps Obi-wan felt Vader could be weakened or redeemed through his death. That whole bit of Luke sensing good in Vader might not of been unique to him. Obi-Wan knew Vader blamed him for his injuries and other problems. In addition to helping Luke as a force ghost he might of felt his death would help give Vader some closure to either help him turn away from the dark side or at least weaken him. After all Sith are all about anger and hate. If Obi-Wan could remove one of the driving reasons for Vaders anger at Jedi it might make him turn on his master or just weaken him enough for Luke to stand a better chance. Because you know the Sith's true weakness will always be happiness. They love to hate, to get revenge, ove to strive for power. Too bad they kind of suck if they ever achieve their goals and have nothing to hate or power to gain. This is also kind of why the Emperor was such a weakling in the end of the 6th movie in comparison to the prequels. Not only was he getting older but he achieved his dream of ruling the galaxy and pretty much wiping out all Jedi. His reasons for power were pretty much gone.
When I was a kid I didn't understand it but as an adult having children of my own I also realize that obi wan felt responsible as he was part father part brother to Anakin and even if Obi Wan was was strong enough to defeat vader I think he still would showed himself die as he knew yes his time had passed but I'm sure he felt somewhere he had failed him but yes I also like that it's an act of defiance to Vader not allowing him win a long awaited battle but also I think it was his way of atoning for Anakins transformation even if it wasn't his fault you know Obi wan would spent much time on Tattoine wondering what he could done differently. Oh one note soo happy we get see Rosario Dawson play Ashoka she's got great face literally once they named her i couldn't imagine anyone else playing her and I ain't even seen her in costume makeup etc
I got the fact that. KONOBI sacrifices him self...not when I was 11....but. later after watching the movie 1000 times more I came to understand it. Good explanation of such a selfless act and may the force be with you.
When you're watching SW for the first time you see Obi-wan's reaction to the death star as being awed by the size. But once you've seen tESB you realize that jedi can see into the future. He probably saw that his death was going to come on some artificial moon, but really, how could you see that and believe that when nothing of that scale had ever happened before? The moment he says, 'that's no moon, it's a space station.' he realizes he's going to his death.
Exactly what I was thinking. If Yoda and Obi were such Billy Basses why didn't they take on Sidious and Vader themselves. Instead they wait for some kid to grow up and manipulate him to hate his father.
So of a sith can't achieve that kind of power n obi wan had to learn how to come back thru the force for so long then how did Vader learn it in one day..Vader became good got killed n came back thru the force all in 24 to 48 hours
If you watch Star Wars the clone wars, you will see how the grandmaster tell Anakin that he was the chosen one and he knew about the force ghost. He saw Qui-Gon as force ghost.
I think the most important line in this encounter is the "if you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine" line. 1) As a human Jedi Kenobi could not possibly destroy the Death Star by taking on all the personnel even if he had defeated Vader. 2) Did Kenobi have a way of influencing objects as a force ghost? Yes I think he did but I cannot prove this. 3) As stated by Tarkin the chances of a direct hit from a stationary blaster at the edge of the thermal exhaust port was maybe one in a million, to travel that distance from the edge of the Death Star to the reactor core would need to be perfectly straight and not influenced by gravity. 4) Had Tarkin known that the attack on the weak point would be force influenced he may have re-thought the decision of evacuation. 5) At the time of the battle of Yavin Luke had only experienced a short encounter with a remote using any kind of Force ability and would not be able to use the Force to make his Proton Torpedoes shot effective. 6) As established in the prequels Obi Wan does not like flying and was almost certain not to take part in the battle of Yavin because of this and his age. 7) As a living being Obi Wan could have no effect on destroying the Death Star. As a Force Ghost he could bring about its destruction with certainty, as long as Luke got to where he needed to Obi Wan could use the Force to ensure the Proton Torpedoes hit their mark. 8) One man could not destroy the Death Star but one Force Ghost could make that become a certainty and that is what was mean by "more powerful than you could possibly imagine." 9) In what other way could Obi Wan be termed more powerful dead than alive? Yes he influenced Luke but he could have done that alive. It is the only thing that makes sense. 10) Obi Wan did not sacrifice himself so the others could escape. He separated himself from the others on board the Death Star because he knew Vader could sense him and he knew that his death needed to affect both Luke and the outcome of the conflict. Luke seeing him die make the connection between them easier as Luke was thinking of Obi Wan a lot after they escaped. Obi Wan's death caused the rebels to win the battle of Yavin and it would not have happened had Obi Wan been alive.
Due to Vader's hate for Kenobi, I think another reason behind it could have been to cause a stir in Vader's emotions, perhaps even weakening his connection to the dark side with Kenobi gone.
Darth Vader wasn't even written as Luke's father until the script for Empire was being written, which was after Star Wars had already filmed. In Star Wars, when Obi-Wan says that Anakin was killed by Darth Vader, he literally meant that. The following movies retconned that, but when Star Wars was shown for the first time, Vader was not Luke's father. Also, while Vader very well may have had a different fighting style that Obi-Wan was unprepared for, that's mostly bullshit. It's a retcon to explain why in the OT they fought more like samurai in a more realistic duel compared to the acrobatic nonsense of the prequels.
Seriso, however you spell that, is made to stop any and all styles. Hence no one could defeat Obi EVER him being the greatest master of the form, except for with force powers.
Tw Fizz burn Yoda died and his body disappeared? Obi-wan died, just like yoda, but their bodies and spirits lived on. When vader died, his spirit moved on, but not his body.
He never died - he reincarnated himself into Rey. Then luke dumped him off on Jakku as revenge for his shitty life on Tattooine. But they will be best friends now that the score is even.
I know you're joking, but nerd side is itching. That would be pretty crazy and cool, but I don't think that will happen because it would be better if Rey had more of an individual identity. And it would be kinda awkward telling Rey that she actually has the soul of an old man.
Yea... but who knows, maybe Obi-Wan was a woman in a previous life as well! Circle of life and all that... BUT here's the second twist in the story - the one two punch!! Anakin also reincarnated himself as Ben Solo. It's a match made in heaven!! And that's why Luke is so pissed. He's stuck with the senile ghost of Yoda following him around the galaxy. The only safe haven for him is the sacred first Jedi temple. The ancients do not allow Yoda to enter there.
You put it all together for me on this one Man. I always pondered what was Obi 1s motive in sacrificing himself. I've watched a couple videos now. Thank you. Thank you. Your content is very on point and I love how you don't get lazy with adapting your illustrations to your narrative. Thanks again.

Selflessness of Obi Wan is unequaled among all Jedi, that's why he is my favorite Jedi of all time.
KingExituS see I think he actually made some very selfish mistakes and that is why he's my favorite. He made some selfish decisions imo
get iced Can you be more specific, give me an example!
Idk it's my opinion you're of course entitled to your own
Plus I think he died on purpose to darth Vader I think he secretly just didn't want to live anymore.
get iced Well, from my point of view what you mentioned were not really out of selfishness.
Didn't Obi-Wan once say to Anakin, "Why do I have the feeling you're going to be the death of me?"

I think it was Anakin to Obi-wan.

That is how powerful he was.
gutz1981 but Qui Gon wasn't able to finish his training unlike the other ones
Anthony Bey tf? The emperor knew Vader wanted to kill him

The shadow of greed, that is.” - Yoda
“The fear of loss is a path to the Dark Side.” - Yoda
Darth Vader throughout the series has the inability to accept loss and death. This is seen with his mother and with his wife. He turn to the dark side to avoid loss. It is not until the end of the movie, that he accepts loss and transform into the force like Obi-Wan and Yoda.
Good point
"I'm too old for this shit" -proceeds to get killed.
He didn’t even die tho
He became a force ghost
“He sacrificed himself and disappeared into the force.” That’s the perfect way to describe Kenobi’s sacrifice
Obi Wan wanted to redeploy once he noticed commander mode was available.

I loved how he denied Vader his vengeance, and flexed on him with the force.
Vader did his vengeance, because he killed Obi-Wan.

I never thougt about this. Thanks!
More like a troll. As a comment above said. Kenobi was the Lord of Trolling for many years since the early days of the Clone Wars.
I think Obi Wan could have left out that Vader betrayed and murdered his father. Even Luke thought that was Bantha Shit when he learned the truth.

Obi wan :- *I spend years to learn how to gain the ghost formation after the death*
Yoda :- *I spend decades to learn that ability*
Anakin :- *Wait .
Kenobi shits all over the notion that Darth could actually defeat Kenobi. Obi-Wan Wins every single time
I got a question why did Palatine want the Death Star cause even Vader seemed against the idea of it by saying there is no stronger power then the force.
Legends went further into explain that Palpatine built both Death Stars because he foresaw the coming of the Yuuzang Vong Empire.
They already explained it in the movie.
"if you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can ever imagine"
He mentioned it
Obi wan lifted his lightsaber to try and gain the higher ground.
Cassian H I knew it!!! Vader was ready for the bitch this time!!
Wolf-936 correct you are
Don’t try it!
If Obi-wan had sacrificed himself by studying years upon years how to return as a ghost, why was young anakin able to return as the same ghost on Endor when they are celebrating his death?
I think it is due to Anakin being the chosen one and so he was very strong in the force, that’s why he learned it so fast and Yoda and Obi-Wan told him how to do it
he didn't die...
he dissapeared when lightsaber touched him!
same thing.
Lojcs I was thinking he was already dead
omg omg ur right i just figured that out just now.
You mean he was already a force ghost when Luke found him on Tattoine? Hmm... interesting theory.
Todd Blalock that's what I am thinking, or people can literally become apart of the force at will
He knew as a ghost he would ultimately have the higher ground
3:05 "Unlike Maul, Vader's fighting style was completely retooled and would have been impossible to predict"

Another fine addition to my collection!
Depends on which part of the Legacy you look at. Some creators have Vader taking them as trophies, others have him having to present the sabers to Palpatine as evidence he was doing his job, who than kept them for his collection.

obi wan was my favourite character in star wars
Ben: "Ah yes... the Princess... remind me Luke after we get off this space station to tell you something very important... you really need to know it before you get too obsessed with her"
Need to update this now.
Here's an idea for a Video: How and Why did Anakin become a Force Ghost?
There's a video about it, but I think it's on another channel
Matt Thornton because he wanted to be great like Yoda and obi wan
Look at the smirk on his face at the end of this video
It's literally saying "Haha nah nah nah nah boo boo I'm one of the greats and Kit Fisto and all the other Jedi besides Qui Gonn, Yoda, And Obi wan are not HAHA in their faces"!
5 seconds later All the other Jedi appear and Anikan gets exposed
By killing off sideuos in the end redemption allowed him to become one with the force
Because he was a creation of the force.

4:26 Which is exactly what Shaak Ti did in The Force Unleashed once she completely lost the fight by Starkiller in the Ancient Abyss.
He took the ultimate high ground: Jedi heaven
Never really killed him. He just dissolved before he was even hit with the saber. Never quite understood that.
He still have high ground and trolling his enemy until the end
So my problem is that once i see Ewan Mcgregor at an elderly age my mind will no longer be able to accept that Obi-wan aged into Ben
m3x1c4n as he grows older I feel like he more resembles Alec, Ewan was a good casting choice.
Which is why they need to make the movie NOW, not later.
m3x1c4n simple solution to that dilemma. We just need to have Ewan Mcgregor whacked.

You know peoples logic just makes no sense anymore these days.
What is more likely:
Obi-Wan letting Vader kill him to distract him and prevent him from noticing Luke?
Obi-Wan fighting Vader till the death thereby distracting Vader and maybe even killing him for good?
How can Vader be stopping Luke if he is busy fighting a "Master"
Knock yourself out!
Ben Kenobi had no chance against Darth Vader
Darth Vader biase viewpoint mate :D
Work With Nature Huh, you forgot that Obi knew he would become more powerful than Darth Vadod if he died. Also he indeed had no chance.
I think obi was did it in order for Luke to become a Jedi since he was old and would probably die soon.
Simply put, Obi Wan knew if he kept fighting, Luke would not want to escape just yet without him.
While I love the fact and thought that Obi-Wan denied Vader his ultimate goal I think Obi-Wan could have easily escaped the deathstar and that he could have been a valuable asset to the Rebellion
Kenobi wasn't killed.. he ascended, he became one with the force.. the F XD
Ep 6 kenobi said Vader was not too much for him and fucked him up kenobi is so underrated and is the best or second best Jedi ever in my opinion
By sacrificing himself he not only pushed Luke toward becoming a Jedi, but also shook Vader’s faith in the dark side and Palpatine because he joined the dark side to try and cheat death and the lightside had done just that. In the end Obi Wan will and always will be the master of trolling.
What if Obi-Wan didn't sacrifice himself and continued to fight Vader
Lucas Northrup I think Vader will still win due to how old obi wan was at this time
He was just 59 lmao
Galaxy Gaming dooku yoda and palpatine we're all old but with the force to guide their bodies they were extremely agile
Lucas Northrup then rip vader
Battle would have drug out awhile longer but Vader would have killed him eventually.
It should never have happened. That's all, folks. Since it has happened, we have to come up with explanations.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Master of Trolling
Obi-Wan has always been the selfless one he holds onto the teachings that Qui-Gon taught him
He only let Vader kill him so he can haunt him. Obi van the Master of Trolling.
Not to mention they crave conflict so they will never accept peace.
why? why only where you have inner peace?
Gotrenk Comment may be a bit old but I think you got that from the MMO RPG - Star Wars The Old Republic

Ashoka will appear in Star Wars rebels zero hour tmr
She's dead.
Dave said she could come back, and its not confirmed she's in Zero Hour
In opinion. Not so sure according to those Topps Trading Cards showing her going underneath the sith temple wading through the water with a convoree leading the way to an opening up some stairs physically. We would know soon enough what we might not expect according to Dave Filoni.
No. She is dead.
No. She's not. Not according to Dave Filioni in Star Wars, Ahsoka panel Europe 2016.
Me when I was a kid seeing Obi-Wan die:
"That old guy's an idiot."
good video. I like that you get to the point

Anakin got tricked by the Sith into thinking THEY had the power of immortality, when its only Jedi that actually have that power. Damn
I got the fact that. KONOBI sacrifices him self...not when I was 11....but. later after watching the movie 1000 times more I came to understand it. Good explanation of such a selfless act and may the force be with you.
He didn’t kill obi wan, obi wan became one with the force
Luke done the same thing in TLJ I just don't know why people don't get it
I think Obi-wan was “the New Hope” and he definitely gained that
Wrong! He was the only hope. Luke was the new hope.
love these videos. listen to them at work.. keeps me sane!! keep it up
When you're watching SW for the first time you see Obi-wan's reaction to the death star as being awed by the size.
My theory is Obi was getting his ass kicked and bailed. He learned from Master Yoda, when the going gets tough, run, hide, and quit.
MATTHEW IZZI - No, he sacrificed himself to distract Vader so Luke could get out of the Death Star.
AsvpxManny if he was killed was the same thing.
Exactly what I was thinking. If Yoda and Obi were such Billy Basses why didn't they take on Sidious and Vader themselves. Instead they wait for some kid to grow up and manipulate him to hate his father.
hippybigshot Not really. They just had to put their faith in the force.
Erik Liu if they were to put their faith in the force then they would’ve encountered sidious and vader themselves, but they knew they were too weak

So of a sith can't achieve that kind of power n obi wan had to learn how to come back thru the force for so long then how did Vader learn it in one day..Vader became good got killed n came back thru the force all in 24 to 48 hours
Chosen one plot armor
8) One man could not destroy the Death Star but one Force Ghost could make that become a certainty and that is what was mean by "more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
9) In what other way could Obi Wan be termed more powerful dead than alive? Yes he influenced Luke but he could have done that alive. It is the only thing that makes sense.
10) Obi Wan did not sacrifice himself so the others could escape. He separated himself from the others on board the Death Star because he knew Vader could sense him and he knew that his death needed to affect both Luke and the outcome of the conflict. Luke seeing him die make the connection between them easier as Luke was thinking of Obi Wan a lot after they escaped. Obi Wan's death caused the rebels to win the battle of Yavin and it would not have happened had Obi Wan been alive.
Badass, no other commentary. Nuff said. Beautifully put 👍😎
The word is “Goad” not “Goat.” Smh
So, his prediction in Episode 2 came true.
That boy is going to be the death of me.....
Vader never killed him he passed the same way luke did.
Luke never passed.
@@MrParkerman6 he did he became a force ghost on his mountain
Force projection explains the dropped robe
Due to Vader's hate for Kenobi, I think another reason behind it could have been to cause a stir in Vader's emotions, perhaps even weakening his connection to the dark side with Kenobi gone.
I can't believe I am your first upvote after 6 years. This is the best comment
Obi wan didn’t die he became one with the force if he had died his body would’ve been there
Tw Fizz burn Yoda died and his body disappeared? Obi-wan died, just like yoda, but their bodies and spirits lived on. When vader died, his spirit moved on, but not his body.
tmcorey1 Vader’s body stayed but obi wans and yodas bodies both didn’t stay so they became more with the force then anakin
Tw Fizz burn Precisely what I just said. You said obi wan didn’t die? He did. It’s all good.
You know, despite this being the first film, Obi-Wan has grown to be my favourite character and I still wish he hadn't been killed off in A New Hope.
He never died - he reincarnated himself into Rey. Then luke dumped him off on Jakku as revenge for his shitty life on Tattooine. But they will be best friends now that the score is even.
Salvatron Prime 10/10 This better be the plot of The Last Jedi.
Salvatron Prime hmm... perhaps
You are so knowledgeable in Star Wars, I love your videos.
You put it all together for me on this one Man. I always pondered what was Obi 1s motive in sacrificing himself. I've watched a couple videos now. Thank you. Thank you. Your content is very on point and I love how you don't get lazy with adapting your illustrations to your narrative. Thanks again.
