When we did allot of deep sea trolling(in Pacific) we would put a "secure line to the reel(or pole) with a clip on the hardware on the rail. Very large fish could pull the rod out of the holder, but the "safety line" would not allow it to go to "davy Jones' tackle shop"

Overcooked squid goes rubbery. Cut into thin strips, flash fry or batter and deep fry.
