- We continue the journey home. In Keetmanshoop, Namibia Andy shaves off his beard. We cross the Orange River into South Africa and drive all day, arriving home in Hermanus while it is still light.
In this series we are on safari filming in Savuti, Linyanti, and the Chobe Waterfront. Savuti is part of the Chobe National Park in North-Eastern Botswana. It is famous for its lions and elephants. The Savuti Channel cuts through the area between rocky outcrops then empties into the Savuti Marsh. The channel is currently dry (and has not flowed for nearly 2 decades), but there are pumped waterholes for the animals, and the roots of the large trees along the banks of the channel can reach the water deep underground.

Filmed and edited by Robert Hofmeyr and Andrew Caldwell.
Behind-the-scenes shot on a GoPro Hero 10. For the telephoto wildlife shots we used a Canon 200-400mm f4 lens on a Red V-Raptor camera. Moving shots were done using a Red Komodo 6K with a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 or Canon 14mm f2.8. Aerials filmed using a Mavic Air 2s.

"It's been a wonderful trip." Yes, it has Robert. It's been fabulous for all of us all of the way.
I was surprised by how good Andy looked without his beard... he just looks gooder with it.
Feeling sentimental this morning and looking forward to catching up with you both again soon.
Thanks for following along Joan. It will not be long before we have a new series: Camping at Rooiputs in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Baby Andy, the new "Face" of Moving Pictures Africa! Brilliant!
Don't worry. The beard will be back on our next trip.
Thank you for a wonderful series.

Thanks so much Noelleen. We were so tired when we got home we didn't film the reaction. I very much regret it now though 🙂

So, what did the wives think?! 😂
They thought it was hilarious 🙂
Too bad you couldn’t paste Andy’s beard on your face! 😉 How did the wives react??? Inquiring minds want to know. 🤔😎
Question: Hot in Botswana in October? Isn’t October the beginning of or mid Spring? (Asked by one who lives in the northern hemisphere.)
🙂 The wives thought it was hilarious. Yeah, it's technically spring I guess, but Oct/Nov are the hottest months in Botswana. The rains usually arrive around late November and that takes the edge off.
@@MovingPicturesAfrica What was their vote? Is Andy regrowing his beard? Do you still have a beard? (Inquiring minds, you know.)
Great episodes and recap, by the way!!!!
@@J.Dibble Andy's family told him to grow it back immediately. My wife liked my "beard" but I couldn't bear it for long. So for the next trip we will be back to normal 🙂
