The subtitles were helpful for me as an American who’s not too familiar with Scottish slang, but I did notice a lot of times when they really didn’t need to change the words since they’re used in American English as well.
My biggest regret is not memorizing the characters better in the opening part of the game. Like something terrible happens to one of them and I’m like who was that again? And it messed up my experience a little bit lol
I was thinking they could have spent more time with the characters in the beginning because it was hard to care about characters aside from the other main 3 on the rig. I don't think it's easy to do because you can't do a whole hour of setup and then the danger happens. People would complain about it taking too long to start.
@@JustapErson yeah, I think the main 3 are the emotional ones while the others are more shock value and inflict a feeling of despair. Your point is very valid but I think the way they did it works out the best for the game personally.
Did anyone notice his slight voice change before he got on the helicopter? Like I could *just be slow but it sounded like his voice was distorted just before they got on and crashed
This whole video is like a 9.95/10. The only thing bringing it down is the fact Mk keeps sprinting everywhere when he isn't crawling, like bro the things can hear the sprinting 😂
And I think sprinting all the time is what cut about 2 hours of play time out of it. It took me about 5 hours to finish and I got the achievement for barely ever running. I think I would prefer that experience more to the accelerated one. The game is all about the atmosphere and the immersion.
The game lends itself to either playthrough. Like, if you think about it, if you were in that situation, you would either run to safety or crawl yourself there. So, two different experiences of the same story.
@@UberNoodle MK's walkthroughs are not what they once were. Too much rushing, not enough savouring. He gets to some vistas and some graphically very impressive parts of some games and just sprints through them, completing ignoring them. Absolutely kills the experience.

This game was really good. I liked how most of the crew mates all treated each other like family, felt kind of sad watching them die, especially Innes and Roy.
While the game is on the short side, I can forgive it because the total package is incredibly well made. Games and stories such as these tend to benefit from a shorter run time, as soending too long with it can result in it feeling drgged out. Fantastic and very real voice acting. Everyone felt like somebody you'd meet in real life. And the ending? Heartbreaking, but tonally fitting with a Lovecraftian story such as this.
True, they were doomed from the very start. The part you mentioned about the game feeling dragged out and repetitive could definitely still be felt throughout playing some parts of the game, albeit it being rather short. Since there could only be so much going on on an oil rig, after all.
I hope we get a dlc where we can play Brodie/Finley/Roy so we can see their perspective through all this and maybe get a better idea on what that weird fleshy mushy stuff that was spreading across the rig and crew members
"Incredibly well made"? It's got a shtton of glitches, the facial animation looks emotionless and the protag can't stop saying "jesus" every 5 seconds which is irritating. It's overall good sure but far from perfect.
Tbh, the game was a little glitchy during that part, and it sort of ruined the immersion, just by a little bit tho. Also, every time when Caz opens a door, it fades into a black screen but then flashes a screen of the door again, but that is just small issue, quite consistent though.
@@Cringility I think they can't load everything in the game and when opening a door, in the middle of it was loading a new map and unloading what you have been through
@Scarf215I’d assume the original monster, whatever it was, snuck onto it somehow before it took off. One would’ve just had to hide in there and wait. Once it took off, everyone in the helicopter was a dead man.

@kubzos I noticed that, too, and I think it happens occasionally when someone gets called a see-you-next-Tuesday (because I don’t trust YT not to shadowcensor my comment if I actually spelled it out).
They censor the video multiple times by zooming in so you can't read the subtitles, and by cutting out the audio. Funnily enough, they entirely glossed over a "cvnt" mid video. Easy to miss it amongst the thousands of "fuck"s, "fucking"s, or "fucked"s being said though.
The voice acting is phenomenal, like for example: I didn't notice this in the first watch but i noticed it during the second watch that when Rennick is arguing with Archie to leave the crew behind, Rennick has a slight hint of struggle in his voice because he's fighting for control but doesn't want to make it obvious that he's turning into one of them, it's so realistic and believable.
I'm not sure I'd call it consciousness by the end. McClearly recognized him. Probably knew him. He didn't identify McCleary. Just because he saw a person doesn't mean he saw it as anything more than meat. I suspect it got him only recently, given it hadn't gotten... Out of hand.
@xwarockx3959 not really I played it and the suspense only lasts as long as you're own ability to recognize how telegraphed everything is. The checkpoints are too generous and the methods of traversal and stealth are too linear for suspense.
Well of course, when you're just watching it and not playing it. You've got to be in it to experience it, and this definitely is a game that is miles better when playing than watching a passive video.

Why didn't Caz at least give the insulin injection and then try CPR? What could it hurt? He has no idea how long ago Roy's heart stopped. Maybe it doesn't work the same when you go in to "diabetic shock" or whatever. But I would have tried CPR for at least a few minutes.
Speaking as both a type-1 diabetic and an endocrinology nurse educator Roy was likely not taking his insulin for a very long time if he was lapsing into diabetic ketoacidosis that quickly. Caz did say that Trots had finally gotten Roy's insulin shipment in. Since he was in DKA, he was long past the point where a single dose of insulin would have done a damned thing. Once you're in DKA, you're looking at several days in the intensive care unit on an IV insulin drip. If you're in late stage DKA, you're likely already in a coma and/or dying. I've been there, it's agony and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies.
Not everyone's trained in CPR, and as we can see from the frankly embarrassing state of the *emergency escape lifeboats*, the rig was rundown and probably fudged a few inspections by way of pounds under the table. It's probably mentioned in some corporate rule log here or there that employees are required to know it, but -- Hell, you'd be shocked -- or maybe not -- by how many that flaunt their own requirements and just keep them to look good for the feds. Not to mention, uh... Can you really say McCleary was in a rational state, clearly thinking? I wouldn't have made it half as far as he did.
I love the game mode provided in the earlier part. For someone who enjoys game with storyline and not a fan of challenges much, for sure I'll choose story mode!
I love the development that The Chinese Room studio has had. Witness its evolution from Dear Esther, Amensia to Machine for Pigs, Everybody's gone to the rapture, and this excellent game. I wish they continue like this.
I NEVER watch any videos of gameplay of any games because, tbh, I find it boring... BUT... I was perusing the Xbox PC app and came across this game. I didn't get much as far as the pictures and videos on the Xbox preview went, so I turned to UA-cam. Your video was the first I came across. I've been so engaged in this video that I've sat here glued to my screen. It plays out like a thriller/horror movie - and I love it.
When you got fired and trying to figure out what to explain to the wife and conveniently the company got blasted.
Phenomenally annoying!
Roy dying had me 5 stages of grief bro
real
The ending got me messed up
Me 2 I'm crying so bad

So truth...
Love to watch games played with no goofy commentary
He has some of the best walk through videos. He plays in a way that you don't have to add commentary
but some time is lonely
People who make quality playthroughs with no commentary are underrated. They deserve tons of respect.
*screaming in pure terror*
"What's up wee man? Are ya hurt?"
*Still screaming, gets liquified.*
I made 100 likes bruh

Of all the monsters there, only Roper was able to maintain his consciousness.
Feels like it would've made a better movie than a game.
Yeah, it's very reminiscent of John Carpenter's The Thing.
I feel like it would be vastly different jf one was playing it than watching someone else playing it
@xwarockx3959 not really I played it and the suspense only lasts as long as you're own ability to recognize how telegraphed everything is. The checkpoints are too generous and the methods of traversal and stealth are too linear for suspense.
Nahh I'd rather experience it in the game because I feel like I'm in it than watching a movie version.
Well of course, when you're just watching it and not playing it. You've got to be in it to experience it, and this definitely is a game that is miles better when playing than watching a passive video.
Just the thought of being in the middle of the ocean while dealing with a collapsing rig and a parasitic bio-organism is absolutely terrifying.
the voice acting actually sounding fire.
And good writing too. The game development is on point.
God the way Caz talks so sweetly about and to his wife goes straight to my heart, he’s the sweetest
Crazy when the Addair dude seemingly got stuck and you just waddle right past/through him lmao 😂
10:53 He doesn't know that one Screwdriver kept him alive the whole game.
Roy’s death hit really hard. It was sad how cat got the Insulin for Roy and Roy still dies.
I freaking live for cosmic horror. I will die in a cosmic horror event leaving a diary of the events that occur. It has been a while since we get this good of a game. The voice acting, the visuals, the concept and athmosphere, also the story telling. Everything is just perfect.
That heater thing at 36:37 is so 70s/80s Britain. Remember my grandparents having one.
2:28:58 "Aye...I want off this fucking rig"
Oh man that line was so FIRE its like Caz just awakened his beast mode after Roy's death
thanks for all of the game play, this one entertains me to no end with just the dialog being different from the translated sub-text.
This is horrifying.
I've been underestimating the Whales and Abnos, but they must be more or less like this as well. God... I'm really grateful these things aren't real.
Great video, by the way. Great game, too. It feels like watching a movie.
Woah, nice to see a fellow PM sleeper agent here.
Currently playing, just restarted the generators and avoided Addair. This game has fantastic audio design with stellar voice acting and some really good atmosphere. Superb quality
The voice acting, music and sound design of the creatures is amazing.
I like that the subtitles even translate the slang they say lol
I laughed everytime Caz was running😂 his flailing hands are too hilarious
52:12 - 52:48
i swear my soul left my body when i heard the "thing" running from behind.
This game is so aggressively Scottish, I love that about it
I love how his memories are like signs of him becoming part of the hive mind , like how the other guy was talking about his wife and kids , and caz remembering his as well plus addair knowing what caz was doing it’s like them all having their own unique individual memories getting brought out of them and each time caz has them he had to have a stronger will each time to get out of it
I love how the subtitles translate the slang used in this game
Why is it that games have better storylines than Hollywood movies today ? Hollywood hasn't got any imagination or integrity.
MKiceantfire has to be omnipotent, making a full gameplay video for games in one try right after their release before the time that anybody should even have loaded in
29:05 - A ladder drops down right as you pass this area. I skipped it as well and went straight for turning off the steam pipes.
So FYI to those going to play it.. a ladder drops down RIGHT here and no one has a clue what's up there lol
Quality over Quantity gameplay. Great story, Voice Acting and Graphics are all well brewed. Hope another amazing game comes out in the following years.
I was actually said when Roy passed. They did that well, and the ending wow. Loved this. 😍
AND SEEING ROY'S DEATH IS TERRIBLE and Caz and even more. Rest in peace 😢
The protagonist has excellent physical conditioning, he would easily join any military special force. 😂😂
He also could've exercised to lower his BG if it was THAT cripplingly high.
This was in the 70's, things were different. Youd be surprised how many people still cant perform proper CPR, even offshore
I love the game mode provided in the earlier part. For someone who enjoys game with storyline and not a fan of challenges much, for sure I'll choose story mode!
Standard mode is fine. It's not that challenging. You've just got to take your time.
VERY EMOTIONAL. also, Caz is HECK of a HERO. he Was the LAst 1 to die and he died making sure he KILLED that Disgusting Monster Bastard.
I love the development that The Chinese Room studio has had. Witness its evolution from Dear Esther, Amensia to Machine for Pigs, Everybody's gone to the rapture, and this excellent game. I wish they continue like this.
Give those voiceactors a raise
Feel like I’m watching a Netflix or Amazon movie - Been glued to this from the start - Good action and good script writing 👍
The part that the Rennick-thing keeps saying Mcleary's name, all I hear is McCready instead. It does give John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) vibes.
That was definitely intentional
I appreciate the whole no commentary upload, cheers
Indie games devs absolutely cooked oj this game, a well crafted story, I shed a few tears.
This game was put together really well, and then with the gameplay by MKIceAndFire, it kept my attention the whole time.
52:24 ''Does they even notice the mess?''
*throws cup*
''Uaagh! Ah-haaaaaagh!''
Had me laughing 😂
12:31 THIS PART LMAOO HIS ACCENT MAKES IT FUNNIER😭😭
This is the best voice acting I have ever seen in a videogame since Red Dead Redemption 2 and it’s not being discussed enough
I appreciate your videos so much yo. You play games my anxiety can’t handle
The rate of failure on the lifeboats makes me think that they weren't inspected.
Cheapskates they are, cannae afford to get inspections despite having probably millions of pound in that bank of theirs!
*Just came to check the video after seeing an "explained" video on the monsters of this game. Man, I really love horror games with grotesque/terrifying design like you see in RE games. I wish there were more horror games out there with creative monster designs*
Nah man, I was REALLY hoping Roy would make it DUDE!!! Damn game got my hopes up.
The Scottish accent makes this game great a horror with a few giggles aswell
Jesus the voice actors really pulled out the stops for the emotional parts. The moment with Roy hit like a brick to the gut.
Never thought I will cry to the ending. He deserved to see his wife and kids after all he went through.
I've never even heard of this, but it looks incredible. The voice acting is fantastic 😮
I love this game so much bro no one can change my mind especially the main character Cameron Caz Mcleary. I WAS FUCKING SHOCKED SEEING HIS MODEL (Aka his full body and his face.) I DID NOT EXPECT HIM TO LOOK LIKE THAT I'M GONNA CRY?!?!??? 😭😭 But it's alright tho, i still love Caz (kinda.) His wife is beautiful i kin her so much, i also loves Dalgleish idk why he's just cool okay... He didn't get enough screen time yet. (?) I even put the Still Wakes The Deep cover game on my bedroom's wall. I love this game so fucking much it makes me happy and whenever someone mentions Still Wakes The Deep i immediately scream and jumps happily because they know this fucking masterpiece of game i've never been happy before. This game makes me happy and un-depressed :) PLEASE DON'T THINK I'M WEIRD. I found this game cool and amazing alright? I just love this game. 10/10 but if i can rate this more than 10 out of ten i'd rate this out with my heart like infinity
AND anyway i love the Scottish accent i love Scotland because of Cameron Caz Mcleary thanks to him. Still kinda creeped out because i saw his model. I still CAN'T believe he looks like that i'm gonna fucking cry but IT'S OKAY I SWEAR (kinda.) Ok bye :D
Seems like a fun game to play. Loving the dialogue between the crew.
Thst ending gets me every time. I've never cried over a video game before this.
Can we talk abt how mk was like what the hell happened at the glitch at 1:14:30 around. LMAO
Recently I have found myself watching loads of play throughs and every game I think of, nostalgic or just my type of game you always come up,, big love for that
I really like the dialog in this game
Coming from a Gaswegian they fuckin nailed it.
@@calummclaughlin7464idk who they or anything but they sound great considering I'm half way done with the video, any suggestions from them ?
@@menaceofnorthmemphiswhat, Glasgow?
I actually love that the subtitles translate all the slang!
Damn, what a sad ending...and it's not even clear, Idk if it was worth it or not, maybe the thing's still alive killing the whole world lol
I mean if you want to be nihilistic I guess, but the tone of the ending doesn't imply that he failed.
He probably didn’t kill it but damaged it to the point it retreated back into the sea and considers oil rigs a sign of great pain.
Kinda like the ending from the thing.
😂Caz flipping Brodie off was hilarious. @2:05:54
"Prick" 😂
Even in the face of death humor is important
The humour is amazing in the game. There's one line where Roy says on the phone, "Remember, Jesus loves you. Everyone else thinks you're a c__t." I almost choked on my coffee when I was playing that.
The voice acting in this game is out of this world
This game could have a scenario for a great movie
Been looking for this one, thank you.
The act of voice actor for Cuz and Suze.. damn real cool..
SCOTLAND FOREVER!!! 🏴
Very pleasantly surprised, just started playing today voice acting is probably the best I have heard in any game. Set in 1975 very refreshing I hope this style of game is not a one off.
Really kills the immersion when you sprint every waking second and bunny hop for no reason...
Offshore worker here…all of this could have been avoided if the HSE protocols would have been in place. Lol.
