Absolutely. Iowa State had no business being on the field with that Nebraska team, which was the predecessor to their 60-3 five year run. Or so we thought...The weirdest thing about that game was that it wasn't some weird fluke where the Cyclones were lucky to win. They simply outplayed the Huskers, who had just beaten two ranked teams (Colorado and Kansas) by a combined score of 101-14, thus providing a preview of the dominance to come. To this day, they say that Marv Seiler (sp?) is still running. A real hard pill to swallow, but give Iowa State all the credit - they earned that win. Dammit. The only time in Osborne's legendary career that one of his teams lost to a squad that finished with a losing record. Still boggles the brain. Cheers.
You mention that Barnett’s win over Notre Dame was the first time Northwestern beat ND since 1962. Northwestern also beat ND every year from 1959 through 1962 - 4 straight. It was a bad period for the Irish. After another bad year in 1963 (that did not include a game vs Northwestern), Notre Dame hired a new coach, Ara Parseighian, the Northwestern coach who beat them 4 in a row. Ara returned the Irish to glory, including multiple national titles.

NC State over #2 Florida State, 24-7, in September 1998 is without a doubt, given the circumstances, the biggest win in NCSU school history, and an upset that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves outside its area. FSU had gone 47-1 since joining the ACC in 1992, and some would still argue that the lone ACC loss to Virginia in 1995 wouldn’t have been a loss had replay review been available at that time on the last play of the game. The 24-7 win in 1998 left no doubt, as FSU scored their lone touchdown within the first 30 seconds of the game, as NCSU’s defense pitched a shutout the rest of the way, in part to the future 2000 Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke throwing 6 interceptions. A 1998 Heisman Trophy candidate, Torry Holt for NCSU, would score on a 68 yard punt return for a touchdown, the first punt return TD given up by FSU since 1988, and he would torch the Noles for another TD on a 63 yard TD reception.

MSU led most of the game but Ohio State began coming into its own by the 4th quarter, finally going ahead with a touchdown. But after OSU's kick off, a Michigan State back broke off a 75 yard (untouched) TD run, putting MSU up by what turned out to be the final tally. you didnt talk about ohio state rose bowl loses 71 by stanford 76 by ucla andother big ten teams michigan in 72 by stanford and illinos in 84 by ucla and miami beating nebraska in the 84 orange bowl and the 87 fista bowl penn st. 14 miami 10
BYU vs. Miami
The "Bear" was coaching Texas A&M in 1952 so no Nova did not beat him when they won over KY.
Thanks for watching but Bear Bryant was at Kentucky from 1946-1953. then he was at Texas A&M from 1954-57
@@WrongedSports Thats what I thought the site I looked at was wrong
But Nova beating The Bear may just have been the bigger upset though KY was not that good in 52
Memphis over Tennessee in 1996. It's still the only win the Tigers have over the Vols.
I have that on another upset list. I believe the strangest upsets list
No disrespect intended ...but can understand why some of those early upsets aren't talked about...
The 65 game is why Rice plays Texas. Too bad JFK didn’t live to see it
One that should've been included: Arkansas-LSU 2007
That one hardly gets talked about.
Thanks for watching and please share. The 2007 season was a very wacky season for upsets
That was a crazy game.
@@KevinPayton-fq8gd Definitely one of the greatest games in Razorback history. I feel like it's forgotten because the SEC has grown so much and big games/wins are a regular thing in the SEC.
@@finchborat Well with Texas and Oklahoma, we can expect to see more big games within the SEC.
Another upset noone ever talks about Georgia Tech ovet #1 Virginia 41-38 in one of the best game Ive ever seen. Tech went on to win the national title.
…not one reference to the Kennedy speech when you brought up the Rice upset. I mean, Kennedy made that speech only a year before this game: a short bit away from his assassination in Dallas. Kennedy chose to go to the moon “not because [it was] easy, but because [it was] hard, and used the annual Rice-Texas football game as an example of an impossible task that Rice continued to attempt year after year, despite losing most matchups. One year later, Rice did the hard thing, and five years after that, we landed on the Moon
That’s the greatest part of that upset, and you didn’t mention it. BOOOOOOOOO
Yeah check my most important ties video
Alabama was already 1-2 with a loss to Vanderbilt when that played Villanova
Thanks for watching. The game was a mid November FCS game and Bama got crushed. Don't think they lost to a small college or a school that was basically an FCS team until Mississippi College beat them a few years later.
How was Alabama a "fantastic" team in 1951? They went 5-6!
Thanks for watching. Alabama was coming off of a 9-2 season in 1950 so that is why I said they were a fantastic team. The Villanova game was an early season match up and bama hadn't lost to a small eastern school like Nova in years
