If both the dollar and yields were up today, why did XBI and IWM rally? Really confused by these moves today.
Yields dropped, and IWM ended the day -0.3%. sure, BTD crowd bought the lows, but this is hardly a rally
is there any relevance to the major market movers getting economic data before the public a few months ago?
When is comes to the sales going down but margins are increasing, what I am seeing on the MFG side is that raw materials suppliers have started to cut some (basically incentives to get numbers / sales up) to increase sales, but that savings is not being passed along as of yet. Thus margins are still strong overall; margins will get tighter as competition for sales increases. I believe the interesting part is that the cost of doing business will not go down (labor, rent, etc..) and this is when we could stagnate or start to see cracks in the economy. Just my 2 cents, time will tell.
What I wanna know is why is the market rallying when the 10 year and the dollar are going up like it seems wrong
Not if 10 year was previously going lower because of recession concerns on the weak data we were getting
What part of the market is rallying? It is the big tech on AAPL news, and AI names. These names don't care much about the 10 yr yield.
Yield sensitive names are the IWM and home builders. They have been dropping.
Dollar sensitive names are commodities, industrials, financials and precious metals. They also have been dropping.
It all makes sense if you look under the hood
I see the margin vs sales vs EPS graph a little differently. The graph is not absolute margins or absolute sales, but rather what contribution each is playing in the trailing YOY earnings EPS. Sales could actually be increasing but playing less of a role as margin expansion if the role of margin expansion is increasingly more impactful. Margin growth in the graph always seems to start to turn a corner from negative to positive at the height of economic uncertainty when companies may be decreasing capex, laying off workers and etc which may increase margins in response to flat, declining or slower-than-expected sales growth. Hope that makes sense.
