Moved to tears by the depth of emotion of this absolutely exquisite rendition by this hugely talented clarinet player who does not seem to have got the recognition he deserved. Up there with Benny Goodman I believe. Would love to hear more recordings by Mr Shu. Any chances Evan? Would also love to read some more of his biographical details if possible.
First of all, I want to say how great it is to connect with fellow musicians like Evan and to share, remember and enjoy music and musicians, in this instance his legendary dad, Eddie Shu. I am a huge fan of his. My parents saw him with Louis Armstrong and his All Stars on tour in Europe, March 1965. Eddie joined the All Stars on July 1st 1964, on July 2nd they played the Newport Jazz Festival, Tanglewood Music Barn on July 4th and on and on it went. Eddie signed on for one year. By the way, this performance was filmed on June 3rd, 1965, in London. Tyree Glenn (tb), Billy Kyle (p), Buddy Catlett (b), Danny Barcelona (dr). Here is the complete East Berlin concert: ua-cam.com/video/okYPiP7K8OQ/v-deo.html
