  • About The Speaker:
Vishen Lakhiani is the co-founder of Mindvalley - a ground-breaking company comprised of innovators, artists, technologist and dreamers from over 30 countries around the world.
Founded in 2003, Vishen's vision for Mindvalley was to build a company whose mission was to bring enlightenment and personal growth to the world in a scalable way using a hybrid of marketing and technology.
Vishen works with authors, thinkers, authors and leaders who have pioneered new ways of doing traditional things: parenting, entrepreneurship, spiritual growth, self-development and more. Mindvalley's team of programmers and marketers then work to build the systems to take these ideas mainstream. His goal was to bring his own passion of personal growth to the masses in hopes of creating a better world.
The result is a new kind of publishing company; one that merges software, mixed media, video, mobile apps and social networks to put authors in the personal development movement in front of the internet generation while bypassing traditional media like printed books.

I agree, if you read "Quiet" by Susan Cain you will see that work places like the one he describes are the worst case scenario for introverts, who are some of the most creative people on the planet! This guy is missing out on quite a lot of talent because he only sees the extroverts' side!!!

Sounds fantastic.... and looks beautiful....the whole idea is "Hotel California" ..."you can come anytime you want, but you can never leave."... Is that really what you want? No real private life or family investment, since all of your heart and soul will belong to the company. "Blur the lines between work and play"... easy for Rick Branson to say, but some of us would like to use our resources to build something with non-commercial value. ..."same idea as gamers to keep you addicted and hooked..."

My thoughts exactly. The concept seems ideal and clearly works, but I can't help but sense something a little ominous about it...

I think you missed out a very important component that Vishen Lakhiani mentioned. That each individual have space for Personal Growth and Goals. Does that sound like "No real private life or family investment, since all of your heart and soul will belong to the company" to you? In a matter of fact it does sound like the opposite.
"but some of us would like to use our resources to build something with non-commercial value" Well that is what freedom of Personal Growth and Goals means. That does belong to you alone and not in some company. What they try to do is that you have time for that also... in compared to other workplaces like you can't choose to do anything for yourself 40/45 hours. I do feel understand what you think, but I do also see that you are stuck in a negative thinking, and no its not called realistic thinking.... its just you are not thinking outside your own box, be open minded or get stuck at where you are now for a long time :-)

    • @markandhisgirls
      @markandhisgirls 9 років тому +4

Seems to me the idea was to spend more for the company than 40 hours a week. But its been a while since I saw the clip. I have blurred work and play for years, and it often makes it more difficult to do either; however it can be done. My basic community is not the company I worked for, nor would I want it to be. I have professional friends who collaborate on projects, but my loyalty and personal investment in family and my friends far outweigh any commitment I have for work.

I own Cain's book. Bought it several months ago; only read the first few chapters. I enjoyed what I read.
As for Lakhiani & Mind Valley, I've become less of a fan. Their marketing campaign morphs into spam after you purchase one of their products. I bought several products & now receive 'notifications' of new product offerings from every author whose product I bought. It's relentless. I've tried several times to unsubscribe, but still can't get off the spam list.
    So be warned!

LOL this kind of workplace would be a living nightmare for me. It reminds me of that movie Office Space. Jennifer Aniston works at a restaurant and they have to wear "flair" on their uniform, to appear fun and exciting. So she wears the minimum of 14 pieces of flair, but her boss is like, "you need more flair, see your coworker wears 37 pieces of flair." She asks, "okay you said 14 pieces of flair minimum, but you actually want me to wear 37 pieces of flair?" They go back and forth but basically and his response is, "I want YOU to want to wear more flair." No thanks.
F that, you get my time and you get my part of my brain for that time. You don't get anything outside the clock and you certainly don't get an ounce of my soul ever.
This guy is has major charlatan vibes.
Edit: The free audio books for employees part is pretty cool. I'd use it to get books critical of the pseudo spiritual bs that this guy pumps out.

  • @Gwen3344

I respect Vishen's passion and vision; on the surface the approach sounds great, but a moment's reflection reveals that this company doesn't recognize the importance of boundaries, a very key principle in developing personal autonomy and self-identity. It also is clearly not a place for introverts or for anyone *mature in years*.
By all means create a fun and happy workplace, but not at the risk of loss of privacy and personal identity. Mind Valley sounds like a Mind Meld Going/Gone Wrong.

! We have a level up in our organisation too. Usually happens once a year to people who have performed very well. We call it a promotion.
The bell is rung once or twice in an employee’s entire lifetime of work with Mindvalley. Which is usually 2 years, according to what I have read. So yes, once a year.

Malaysia’s brain drain was a problem for Mindvalley opening an office in KL? Am I to understand that the 1% of Malaysia’s finest engineers and doctors and entrepreneurs and scientists (Not talking about the the others who work as petrol bunk attendants and store cashiers) would have joined Mindvalley?
    Nice aspirational flex. Splendid.
Do you know why my corner grocery store isn’t becoming a Fortune 500 company? Because of the brain drain.

What exactly do the 25 year olds who work here produce and how much does it cost? Why do only young 25 year old people "work" at Mindvalley and why is the turnover 2 years or less if it is so awesome to work there? If this company is worth $40 million dollars, why are the employees paid so little? The highest paid worker seems to be paid less than $1800 a month for 45 hours of work per week.

I feel like this is modern day slavery for our upcoming generation. It sound too good to be true. It seems like work is your only life.

As an introvert this workplace sounds like a nightmare! Highly competitive, fake and insincere. Happiness? Yeah right, they wanna keep you happy because they wanna suck all the life out of you! Yes the offices are pleasant, but all style and so substance; a charade to manipulate egotistical sheep into thinking they work somewhere special. Talk about delusions of grandeur.

Thank you Lana. YT is full of his adverts.
I am not sure what he does, apart from talking about being successful. If we were to measure his success, it lies in talking about being successful.
Much like what someone said about the Kardashian, Famous for being famous.
It feels nice finding someone who finds him mildly annoying at worst and a confidence trickster at best.
I am surprised by how many people find him insightful and sometimes even profound.
Gives one an idea of how mentally weak some people are, to be taken in by someone who keeps banging on about the obvious.
I wonder why people want to think and be all the same.
Some of the most creative people didn’t have fulfilling lives, some of them live very mundane lives.
Our differences are what make us individuals.
And the fact that I absolutely despise these woo peddlers doesn’t help my impression of Vishen, and he has that smug unshaven look which is even more cringey.
