KAIJU FIGHT! KAIJU FIGHT! KAIJU FIGHT!
Tom, Rhi, and Kim: "alright we've gotta play this smart"
Trott: "BLAST HIM WITH ALL THE COOL SHIT!!"
Mark is a fucking amazing DM, fueled by early 90s pop culture and cuteness, supported by some awesome players, but still a fucking amazing DM.
A 500-600 foot high monster would translate to a "mini" that is 9-10 feet tall!
Basically around 160 meters or a 13 storeys building 😨
The DM gives his party a badass mech with a ton of cool features but the dice just decided "No."
I'm a podcast listener but I just had to hop on to check out these big big big bois. KAIJU FIGHT KAIJU FIGHT KAIJU FIGHT!
Same
I love the irony of Tom getting on Chris for not reading the special ability before choosing it and now he's stuck with a CON ability. These guys crack me up! Very exciting build up in the first half! Came here from the podcast to see the figurines!
Same
Just love when Mark laughs.
The cliffhanger from last weeks episode was awesome!
I'm super excited to see The Stormchasers take on Kaiju Atelicus!
I just love how they have to take five to get all the memes out before every serious scene 😂
I'm not even into mechs or giant fights but the group's excitement is so contagious I can't help be thrilled too!
The chanting was necessary and welcome. KIJU FIGHT!!!
Kiju
Agreed
For a moment I thought Sayana was bringing Dannica, then I thought it is ZimZam for the lols, but Tassidar and Sayana as traveling buddies is THE BEST 😂
Zim Zam will return when he's needed most, appearing through a Doctor Strange portal to fight Hadar in episode 200
It's Merlin and Archimedes owl 😂❤
Always great to see a new episode of Aerois being released , and happy birthday and many happy returns Rhi😁😁🎉
When Kalus said he would help with Atelicus I just knew Quill's vision was of it being sent to help them lol
I was a lurker when this was live, but I will just say, goddamn I love mecha anime and tokusatsu and kaiju fights. I love all of your beautiful lil nerd hearts, especially Mark, you delightful weeb you :)
Remember for next time: in Kaiju fights, the butthole is considered part of the torso.
Rhi angrily pawing through all her dice and then yeeting the d4 at 2:11:24 is so funny
And then more d4 rage at 2:24:50
That freaks me out. Anybody who has ever stepped on such a die, a.k.a. a cantrip, knows that Lego ain't got nothing on them when it comes to pain.
Mark is an absolutely legendary DM, the custom mechanics for all these awesome boss fights are inspirational af
Aerois: Rhi-birth
I don’t think mark understands just how deep the open ocean is, still a great fight though
Great video. Love the penultimate fight.😊 I bet Aila would be bored in a cockpit not having the ability to rage or hit things. Pushing buttons, wheee. 😮 I am disappointed the Stormchaser is not there. More Stormchaser please. 😊 Love the team effort mechanics. 😊 Also, so many good one liners in this episode. 😊 Love the kaiju chant. 😊❤
That's a consideration I didn't think of. I was thinking that it was unfortunate that Katie was too sick for the Atellicus fight.
KIM was born to manage! NOVA is heading for beyond middle management.
I didn't expect the episode to end with a Smiling Friends punch, but it was perfect!
This episode had everything we needed: a giant mech, a giant monster... and MAX. *Sighs dreamily*
Shoulda put Alia in the legs! Although I guess the crew didn't know the legs would be making Dex checks to dodge all the time.
I love seeing how excited the table is for Mark's kaiju/transformer fight. They're like giddy school kids.
Transformer? It's a mech. There are plenty to choose from but Transformers, cool in their own way certainly, aren't mecha.
I have been waiting all week! Cant wait!
Happy Birthday Rhiii!
Glorious episode as usual!
I don't know what's going onnwith Katy but it sucks that she isn't here. I bet she would love this.
I wasn’t in the country for this unfortunately. And I was sick the week before. Sucks but sometimes life stuff happens
@LittleNommer hope things line up better for you in the future. You're always such a delight.
This is quite epic! This will be very funny utilize or something else I'd be really cool to be an outlaw Star grappler Shepherd also be cool .
I don't know if this ends up mattering as I watch them decide on Voltron, but all I'm thinking is: if they're all separated by a hundred some feet, it's gonna be harder to throw a heal or a bless or a shield of faith or an aura of vitality or, or, or...
It's really interesting how it's almost immediately apparent that they might have assigned the abilities partially correctly accidentally. Doing combo abilities is a lot easier if your party who is naturally worse at it has advantage on it. Lucius +2 (?) strength, for example is going to average about the same with advantage as Aila will with a +7 strength bonus.
So good! Mark, I would love a release of some finetuned rules for vanguard-ish mecha and/or Kaiju fights in your system when you make it!!!
The subtitles changing magicite missiles to manchester missiles has made my day
I can’t believe I finally caught up! I’m glad I’m here but I’m sad I’m out of content to consume lol gotta wait weeks for an ep now lmao
I think Mark is one of the best DMs around, full stop... incredibly creative and also a great storycrafter.
I feel that this fight was a bit of a let down because the players needed to manage energy, rolls (without their proficiency - which is often what makes them high level) and weapon recharging. If it had just been any of those 2 it would have been way more epic... especially considering that Atelicus didn't seem to need to roll to use their moves.
Just give them unlimited energy to try all the cool moves and if it's too powerful can always compensate by increasing HP.
I don't think prof bonus really made a difference, because Mark also set the DC's. If anything not having prof bonus makes the team much closer in ability (swing of -1 to +5 ish instead of -1 to +17ish).
But, every new mechanic is essentially being playtested on screen, so it would be a miracle if it's entirely flawless the first time. These systems are amazingly polished all things considered. I think if I were going to remove something it would be the ability checks. Or perhaps, they have to do the ability check but with different fail states? (At a minimum if you fail it shouldn't use the energy too; that's just double-dipping). Their normal characters tend to get 2-3 "tries" at action during a round, but the vanguard is all-or-nothing so it's probably frustrating for high-level characters to spend a round and have nothing happen from it.
If you do that then it becomes a resource management game: do we do the big attack and hope we can take him down, but know that if it doesn't work we are defenseless until we recharge, or do we do the lower attack that we know will only injure him, but leave us with more energy for a follow-up?
This was like punching in a dream listening to them fail one check after another. Damn, kaiju fight could have been awesome
I'll confess that the magitech aspect of this campaign doesn't quite sit easy with me, as I like my tech sci fi and heroic fantasy partitioned in TTRPG.
Having said all that, and it doesn't get more tech than piloting a huge mech, this was so entertaining. Fresh mechanics and gripping battle, all the harder for L19. And watching the team roll so badly made a great image of the chaos of the heroes taken out of their comfort zones of 9th level spells and divine smites. Excellent.
I'm not entirely enamored with the idea myself. At least magitech has been stated as a more sophisticated take on wands, scrolls, etc.
Though the mechs and spaceships and such makes that seem more of a reskin than anything.
I do however like science fantasy stuff but it works better without having thinly veiled equivalencies.
The actual tech or magic needs to feel distinct for the genre blend to work for me.
Does anyone else sing along with the into every....single.....time??? Am I weird 😂
Its time for the High Rollers Christmas Special...
I certainly do
Not me. I would at least words in English to sing anything.
But more to the point I've binge a ton of live play shows and my protocol is to cut the fat.
Intro sequences don't make the grade and might get watched a handful of times (really regret skipping the few where they ended up providing the "vocals" themselves though).
If I happened to watch live I would but I usually don't do the Twitch thing either.
Catching up so I can watch the finale, and I've gotta say that I want a Tassidar and Sayanna roadtrip show
Man those fucking rolls
So glad I finished watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam yesterday >.>
after 4 years I finally caught up
58:30 - That was cool af
Another session down. ONWARD!
Every game...these guys cannot roll dice to save their lives. Literally.
Still on the last episode but always try to like and comment for the ALGORITHM !! Love you guys, excited for this one !!
They should have gone on a quest to get Gojirra on their side! ATOMIC BREATH and down goes ATELLICUS!
I wish mark would post the rules for this mech somewhere because damn that's so cool
Mark is the dm I aspire to be.
It’s the vision coming to pass
Spoilers
Already mega Atelacus kaiju - but then it's HADAR TOUCHED TOO?!
The first half of this was especially epic - starting to have that final chapter, getting the gang back together feel with Sayana and Tassadar coming in, calling in Kallus, getting the Astoria moving in, ahhh
Um also, what's happening with Sentry? 41:38
Part of me is thinking she's truly just messing with us, but I am afraid that she's touched - didn't she have a moment where Sentry seemed to change, or am I confusing this with when she was starting to shutdown
@@simplesushichef I don't recall a recent moment like that, but I could have missed something. Rhi and Mark are certainly up to something..
Remember what Tassadar said. Both Lucius and Sentry came into some passing, but not lasting, contact.
It's from back before Sentry cleansed the Guardians across Aerois.
She tried to save one of Voracitor's minions on Horizon. So referencing a creepy moment that people may have forgotten about.
I don't think, from what was said, that it should be a problem.
the feywild was the first time she yelled at him for not telling them about kauses skycity.
Yep. They've definitely had this argument before. Though I think it's more a case of assumptions.
Some people, like Tom, generally believe that important information would gets disclosed automatically.
Kim probably needed some kind of confirmation so that she knew she wasn't meta gaming.
So it's more communication breakdown than anything. The thing that I find funny is Mark's role in all of this.
He described a sequence of people from this very sky city discovering the arch.
Which was both inconsistent with Quill's original vision and the fact that this is the arch from Kalli's Rest that Starbane's forces took and were installing in this lost sky city.
KIND OF SPOILERS:
*Pacific Rim Music plays*
Always vote Voltron.
Rhi is the Will Wheaton of this group
I thinking her and Katie share that duty
Still only at the recap, but I'm a little sad the party has been so glib about Sanna dying.
To be fair it’s been over 100 episodes since she had any involvement with them, a part from a brief reunion during the world leaders meeting
SO very Battletech
20 bucks says Starbane shows up in Vanguard Omega, 6th ranger style.
cool
ello is the kaiju fight 'ere
so G gundam in campaign nice
2:04:21 how do they only have 6 after gaining 9 having 4 from last round and using 3 for the shield? I definitely missed something
KAIJU FIGHT
I do feel like the Voltron setup is vastly inferior, the game qwop comes to mind as does a three-legged race. a central consol is vastly superior.
As a technical consideration certainly. The issue is that a central console works better with a singular pilot.
So either you give the rest nothing to do or you forgo a combination mech and give one to each individual.
All this debate about Starbane....he is basically an honorable version of Adolf Hitler. Except he is coming to face that he is wrong. Hopefully he will change and be a good person by the end of this tale.
At this point I believe he needs to be imprisoned for a few millennia after the heroes save the day. Maybe take a couple millennia off for good behavior.
All the good he has done and hopefully will do does not excuse him for the multiple billions of innocents he is directly responsible for killing. Or the mind altering torture of thousands of innocents done by those under his direct command.
I am VERY curious to see what happens to him by the end of the tale.
Before watching this, I saw pacific rim at the gym. ‘Twas meant to be!
xoxo prepare for battle
Trott taking the [spoilers]
ROKETTO PANCHI!!! just feels right to me.
48:00 and another clip for the shorts channel
So who's going to be the 6th ranger? Thalia? Maximilian? Pyri?
Why do you keep letting Tom roll for Ayla
Nobody else seems to want to play Aila when Katie is away though (except the few occasions where Mark handled it).
Though after the Hammer cracking incident you would think that Katie would have pre-vetoed it happening again on principle.
so merger of megazord,gundam,voltron bot
Man, I'm not sure about this. I guess if they're having fun that's good, but I'm not sure making a creature the PCs are unable to interact with in a meaningful and varies way is a good design.
It's kinda like 'you will partake in my pacific rim fight, and there is nothing you can do about it'. Only way is to use the starbane mech macguffin seems kinda anti-TTRPG, by ethos. Edit: Player agency is the best term. This is bad from a player agency perspective.
Considering that everyone was excited by the idea when Mark originally presented it your kind of going against their player agency not with it.
If anything I'd say that sometimes Mark's more creative mechanics almost try to circumvent using D&D as a system though. YMMV
@@MorinehtarTheBlue Definitely to the latter point. I'm not sure what you're saying with the former. You can be excited about a pacific rim voltron fight and not effectively be told your 19 character levels are all but completely useless in this fight. The heroes of being completely unable to beat something.
@@Derploop What I'm saying is despite the mechanical switcheroo player agency is about what they choose to do.
It's weird to say it's something like railroading when Mark isn't pushing at all and the party is actually making the choice to do it because they think it sounds cool.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue are they? What else could they have done? Let Itallacus consume Siaska and end the campaign?
@@Derploop There is a hell of a difference between feeling you have to an being actually excited, which it is pretty obvious they were🙄
I’m I the only one that hates this fight? Podcast listener and it just didn’t seem fun to me.
I think the rolls for mech abilities should have been reworked somehow. But having said that they did get consistently very unlucky with rolls.
