You can just use a good organic dairy based compost and gypsum and kelp,that'll get you some nutrient dense tomatoes! Blessings to you!

what about comfrey leaves? i have clay soil, amend it with grass clippings, leaves, and straw, plus pull the wood chip paths into beds every 3 yrs...wondering if the cost of gypsum will be worth it?
Hi!!! Just came across your channel, and so glad I did!! I've seen several of your videos already, and will view them all eventually. I know this is video 6 months old, and not sure you'll even see my questions here, but, here goes.... There is no question you know what you're doing, the proof is more than evident. I wondering why so many ingredients, when it seems that some do the same thing??!! I've been using Bone and Blood Meals, Potash, and a dash of Epson Salt, with good success....not 'World Record Success', but doing well. Those have given me all the N-P-K I thought I needed. I'm just confused why you use so many ingrediencies that seem to provide some the same nutrients, seems like over kill. But again, I can't argue with your results, but what am I missing?? Thank you for your help.

Gypsum is a good source of sulfur and calcium, it's a naturally mined mineral.

I know you guys talk about bringing some of your own products to market. The blend of these nutrients would be a great thing to do and like a five or 10 pound bag there’s no way I could go through that much material buying them off your list I just have a small garden area, but I’d like to grow things something to think about. I love your philosophy on growing!!! I would love to know your opinion on biochar in the soil since you do no-till if you have an opinion. Thank you!!!
Thanks for watching! My opinion on biochar is that it's way to expensive for the benefit received! I'd put my money to something like zeolite as it stores excess nutrients for future release and it is much cheaper to buy. Hope this helps and hope you have a blessed day!

You'll want fertilizer/ amendment which is higher in nitrogen, something like feathermeal,fishbone meal,blood meal, these are all nitrogen sources.

My preferred nitrogen source is organic dairy compost,if your biology is thriving it can sequester nitrogen from the air.

Why no "Vermiculite"? I live in Southern California with mostly dry, warm to hot days. Is it because you live in a different climate? Vermiculite increases water and nutrient retention and as a plus , aerates the soil. And if you recommend, at what Ratio would you recommend? Love you guys and God Bless you as well!
Yes you certainly can use vermiculite, I had to draw the line somewhere as to how many ingredients, people have complained about the number of different ingredients so I'm glad I didn't add any more. You can add 10% vermiculite if you'd like. May God bless you!
Can I use this for all my beds/all vegetables?
This is more tailored to tomatoes. If you want a general amendment mix, we could get that to you.. 😊
What about a cover crop of winter wheat in the garden?
Cover crops do not work in my method of gardening,timing just does not work,I find I get much more benefit from mulch and compost. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
When I saw the soil prep for containers I couldn’t help but think that’s the way to get $10 tomatoes. I have 30 5-gal containers to fill. It would cost a small fortune for enough of all those ingredients.
😄Yes, the potting soil mix is "Ultimate" as the thumbnail says, so it has all the best necessary amendments for most uses. You can make a less powerful mix to cut costs, or find cheap organic mixes and add goodies to them. Blessings!

Hi there, thank you for sharing this video. Is there any reason your trellis is designed this way? Perhaps you can explain the logic behind it. Blessings to you and your family.
Yes there is a reason why it's designed this way, I can plant more densely therefor more tomatoes per linear foot of bed space and at the same time have excellent air flow throughput the growing canopy which equals less disease pressure. With this system you can see every tomato and you can access every fruit very easily. I'll run a shade cloth over them in the summer, another thing is that the row runs east/west which I have found works better than north/south. Hope this is helpful! Happy growing!

@@DanSuth-jl5mz Hi Dan, your trellia design is of much interest to me because it has poles running lengthwise. My ideal tomato trellis (who would have thought of the need to stake tomatoes in such an elaborate way 😊) would be a layered star shaped, meaning a lower star would be below an upper star. This would allow me to keep the multiple runners above 2 ft for my indeterminate cherry tomatoes.
This layered star design borrows inspiration from the well-known Blueberry grower Dr. Arlie Powell from the nursery Petals from the Past. His method of trellising blueberries uses two linear trellises. One around 3-4 ft, and another around 5-6 ft.

No, it just won't be as available for the plant to take up right away,the biology needs to break it down so the plant can use it.

Beginner question- I am planning on growing tomatoes in a raised bed. The dirt is pre bagged stuff from a local nursery and has manure in it. Would you still amend new dirt with everything you did in this video or would I risk using too much of something?
You certainly can use the recommend amendments but if your on a tighter budget you certainly don't have to, these amendments are recommended for greatest and the most nutrient dense produce but you'll certainly be able to grow nice tomatoes without them,they'll still be far better than store bought tomatoes so just use what you can afford and enjoy your tomatoes! I cannot understand why you do not include the amount used for each ingredients!!! List of ingredients is wonderful; but how much of each to add???? Is that possible to know?

Unfortunately we didn't measure everything out,best I can say until we are able to make another video is that those containers are 2 cups so if you watch closely you'll be able to get an idea of how much was put on,just remember that with these organic amendments it's very forgiving so it'd be rather hard to really hurt anything, that's the nice thing about using organic vs synthetic, you can really mess things up with synthetic fertilizer.
Do you plant tomatoes in the same bed every year?
Yes,nature doesn't do crop rotation and neither do I 😊

I have a question about my gardening method:
I am trying the no till method. I layed down some pine tree mulch in my garden that I had sent through the chipper. These chips had sat for about a year but the pile was so big that moisture hadn't gotten to the center of the pile. After the fact, I was told that its a bad idea because it can hurt the nitrogen levels in my soil. Am I still ok as long as I feed the soil and don't mix the wood chips into the soil? Do I have to pull back the woodchips every year to feed the soil then rake them back over? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
