The Pac tried to do the same thing with private equity. I get it, we don't know the details completely. This influx of cash is not going to be long lasting and then 15-20% of the revenue is going to be cut right off the top. So the conference has to win as was stated. Win a lot. How do you do that with the current recruiting classes compared to the other conferences? The money is nice, but these kids will get the money elsewhere too. They'll also get to play for a popular brand(the blue bloods of college football). I'm sorry, the Big 12 doesn't have those brands. This is why I don't think private equity is going to be a good idea long run. I don't think the revenue will grow to where it needs to in order to out pace the debt owed each year to this private equity company, because I don't think the teams will compete with the best of the other conference's with the recruiting disadvantages.
West Virginia & Cincy know exactly how it feels to have your conference blow up like the PAC 12 schools. We went through it with the Big East. West Virginia had to fight to get the invite to the Big 12 and Cincy had to get relegated back down to a G5 conference before being brought back into an autonomous conference with a Big 12 invite.
The Big 12 and ACC will survive. Pretty much! A couple of schools might get taken down the road. But if you think the BIG and SEC are going to invite a few of these schools down the road, you have been smoking too many of those funny cigarettes. They don’t need really any of them. And the schools will not be willing to slice the pie more ways. I think these conferences have just about maxed out money on their new contracts. Disney would love to unload ESPN. They could bankrupt themselves trying to pay all that money. Don’t know much about FOX sports. But do know Disney feels ESPN is a weight around their neck.
yes football is fun and draws eye balls but the students also love the popularity of all other sports also. If you rid of girls sports and maybe some men sports it could hurt schools, jobs, cities, states. People would move away where the action is. Hearing schools might eliminate some sports and thats plenty to alarm me.
I see a push back from private schools in Big 12 on PE. Their may be others as well. This will not happen in ACC because of so many privates. The P2 don't have to worry about it @ this time. In closing the Big 12 is only conf.in this crossroad. If the contract is written in a way that is acceptable to all, go for it.
We are on a path to second class athletics. This money could make the conference much more valuable than the loan amount. Without it, we are living on the edge of obscurity. With it, we will have a chance to be relevant.
The Big 12 doing all the work to get corporate sponsorship for naming rights is great for SEC/B10. Firstly, once the B12 does it, it’ll draw heat away from SEC/B10 when they do it! Second, and more importantly, it sets a floor on how much SEC/B10 naming rights will be worth!
Its a resume builder for him. It must/should be a minimum of $10mill per year per school to make it worth it. Dont just sell out for the sake of selling out.
Not on board with private equity for all of the downsides that you outlined. It seems unlikely that the Allstate 12 can defer a sufficient amount of the risk to the capital investors. The Allstate 12 cannot guarantee that their media contract will double in value unless we pull in teams from the ACC in larger tv markets in exchange for a 20% stake in the conference, if we get halfway there what happens or worse? How is the Allstate 12 protected. Will they have an escape clause that lets the Allstate 12 out of the deal if it does not achieve the rate of return that the capital investors will be demanding. Concerned about the longevity of the University Presidents and the Commissioner making this decision as they may not be around if it implodes. It seems that we need to wait and see if we can pick up some additional large tv markets like Miami, Louisville, Pitt and Virginia Tech.
Is the future really at stake? It is finances… the Big XII will be strong regardless. There needs to be a cap to NIL payments… it is getting ridiculous and shifting too much money to pay individuals.

Excellent content from an understanding fan! All fellow Big 12 fans can relate to your take.
If Brett gets his ideas shut down here and now, of course he'd be willing to leave. If old ideas prevail thr Big 12 wii die. It happened to the Pac.

54:54 If Big 12 becomes the Dr. Pepper conference, I might get a little salty
What about state legislatures or Congress potentially objecting to private equity and stopping it for one or all the schools?
Very informative video. Many questions to seriously ponder for these universities.
It’s all about Brand Value and Viewership.

ACC "coastal" loves their conference.

"4, 5 How to stay alive"... PE Sounds like a deal with The Devil but if you dont...maybe it's all over.
Any game against KU at home this year take KU minus the points. Those stadiums are going to be a huge positive factor for KU.
I don’t trust any of these commissioners.

USC could market their name easily without changing anything to get a few million a year. THINK ABOUT IT???😮😅😅😅😅😅

Bold predictions.
Putting a pin in the Trojan Conference seems unproductive, or maybe that would actually be reproductive.
