Streamer fishing for Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout (Creek Fishing!)

- In this video my brother Andrew goes fly fishing after a big storm and chases some wild brown trout and rainbow trout in several of our favorite creeks. Andrew used both his own hand tied streamer and a Sex Dungeon during the video with his 7 wt fly rod. I hope everybody enjoys the video!

So sad to see that trash in the stream. It's amazing how trout can thrive in conditions like that. I'm a new subscriber so I have a lot of catching up to do, but would you guys ever consider doing a 'how-to' streamer fishing video or series for the aspiring streamer fisherman? It's something I've been meaning to get into but have hitherto focused more on nymphing and wet fly fishing. Thanks for the continued great content!
I'd love to! I'm going to start a little educational series soon. The aim is to try and help out people who are new to fly fishing but would like to learn. I am trying my best to have it get pushed out by the end of the month. It'll be around 5 or 6 videos long. And thanks for the support!
The educational series would be great. Have a son in the west trying to learn to streamer fish. Some background on streamer rig would be great too ie sinking or floating line
@@tammybanachowski7580 that's awesome!! And I'll keep that in mind when I make the series for sure. I know a lot of people who watch the videos are trying to learn fly fishing.
@@hardmanfishing Fantastic! I look forward to it.
Hard to believe they do a clean up there every year!
Andrew is a beast yall, give the boy some kudos. Dude pulls torpedoes out of some janky conditions and small waters. Could you maybe show some of the accidental species that strike? I know it is bound to happen.
Jeremy Kennedy these were perfect conditions for streamers
But kudos to him
Thanks man! I'm sure Andrew will see this at some point. I like to give him crap about his fishing but at the end of the day he is a very intelligent fisherman who (usually) knows what he's doing. Thanks for the support!
lol thanks for that Nathan
That second Brown you foul hooked
You should do a trash cleanup day on this stream that you seem to frequent. Good videos otherwise.
Great idea. Would need more than a day though sadly.
Well there were 2 cleanups on 2 different streams in the area but TU had to cancel them because of the virus. Also I couldn't have traveled to participate anyway...
@@hardmanfishing Shame stuff like that, and Project Healing Waters, are all shut down. I was supposed to do an event with them this upcoming weekend in Northern PA...... shut down. Had a place on the water calling my name (deep sigh)
@@tightliningmd Yeah man it is rough. I believe they are still doing some fingerling stockings so we might do some of those.
Tied some streamers today, Just checking out this video and Wow! Nice Brownies. What State is this...?
Love your it reminds me of the same size streams I normallycaught my first trout when I was five years old on the fly rod and I was hooked from then on and it was only about a 10in brown but but I'm almost 40 years later I can remember it like it was yesterday keep up the good videos guys and I'd like to know more info on what state your fish in the end I've only been subscribed for a coupleso I really don't know where your fishing out of her a lot of background on I'm from Virginia unfortunately are trout fishing has declined over the yearsthe hatcheries release a lot less fish than they used to and a lot smaller fishthey don't release any brook trout anymore like they used mostly rainbow trout and a few brown
These aren't fish from hatcheries, these are wild trout. But I don't give away too much info on locations because of hot spotting. I will tell you we mostly fish in WV. I wish you the best and I hope you can get out there and chase some trout soon!
We are disgusting. Look at the rubbish every where and the state of those houses. Could be a beautiful place if it wasn't for that
Great video music ruined the nature feel
I apologize. I try to choose different music videos every video to diversify.
That’s a productive little river, you fished it well.
And one thing that impresses me a lot about yall is that you are not always sight fishing like a lot of fly fishermen do it's a lot more challenging when you're fishing swiftwater or dingy water and y'all seem to have it going on good man keep the videos, I noticed y'all have a lot more browns in your area me we have mostly rainbows but we do have brown in the part of Virginia I'm from what state are y'all fishing out of
Well we probably have more rainbows than browns too. If we fished some of these creeks in clear water and nymphed them most of them would be rainbows. But because we fish during high water with streamers we catch some bigger browns. And we fish mostly WV

Hey guys, just subscribed but have been checking out your vids for awhile, y'all have some pretty dang good content. One I thing I was shocked to see is that you're using a 7wt rod for that creek, out here in Idaho I'm usually using a 5/6wt on the Snake River and catching up to 6-7lb rainbows and cutbows, sometimes bigger, so I was just wondering why the 7wt? On a creek like that for myself I'd love a shorter 5wt in the 8-8 1/2 ft range maybe even a 4wt. Thoughts??
Well I'd say that when I fish for rainbows (even big rainbows) I don't usually use over a 5/6 wt. Browns are different because they are predators and I'd say 90% of the time you're pulling them out of a log jam/undercut bank/root ball or some form of nasty cover. I moved up to using 7/8 wt because I desperately needed head control over the big fish or they would break me off. I'd even argue that it is more important to have control over the fish in a small creek where it is easier for the fish to get to a place that it could snag your or break you off. That is just my 2 cents though. I used to use a 5 wt in the small creeks and lost a few giants because I literally couldn't turn their heads.
@@hardmanfishing After a few head scratches and hmm's, that got me to thinking that's a brilliant idea. I've never quite thought about that aspect before. Thanks for the tip. Learn something new everyday. Sometimes the simplest things a person just doesn't think about. Awesome explanation.
Yeah thats gotta be north Carolina or in that region of the smokies.
That was some awesome fishing mate. Better not to tell anyone the location as people can't keep their mouths closed nowadays tight lines man awesome stuff 👍
Never have! Thanks for watching and for the support!
Honestly nothing against you man, I think the reason why so many channels have subs that don’t match their views, is because we get so wrapped up in watching the videos that we forget to subscribe. At least that’s how it is for me, and it happens a lot
I don’t think subs means as much as it used to. I don’t even really watch videos from the subscription feed anymore. You watch based on what’s recommended. You could never sub to a channel and watch all of their videos. Having said that I don’t think any channel is pulling views anywhere near their sub count. Not even the biggest channels 😂 so I don’t worry about it much at all
Great vid, great skills and great trout. As usual. Then again, I've been here and subbed for _ages_ * sniffs haughtily * 😁 Interesting how your waters remain pretty clear, even after rain. In my neck of the woods rain usually means a brown torrent, with the fish under the bank watching netflix, with a glass of red, relaxing.
Yessir you have! I recognize alot of the channel names from people who have commented for a while. Always love seeing the comments and the continued support. And some creeks stay clear while others don't, we usually move around until we find some fishable water.
I tried to hit subscribe but it was grey :) Great video as usual. Thanks for sharing and love streamers on small streams. Can't beat it :)
That's a good problem to have :) Thanks for all the support man! Hopefully one day in the future we can fish somewhere (once the virus stuff is over).
@@hardmanfishing No doubt. We will figure out a place to meet up and enjoy some time on the river. Stay safe, stay healthy, and tight lines!
Nice trouts! So desirable!
Another awesome video guys it’s getting to be a Friday norm waiting for your next video thanks for sharing
I will do my best to post a video every Friday at 6 PM! Glad you like the videos and thanks for the support!
Funny shit all these comment
So, why is Andrew doing all the fishing lately? Also, how often are y'all hooking up on the trailer hook?
Commented before I got to the end. Now I see why Andrew is doing the TROUT fishing.
@@rickrichardg2969 Yessir!! I am currently in Florida and the virus has shut down my travel plans. It is unfortunate but not much I can do. Thanks for watching!
Hey Hardmen Adventures can you please give me a couple tips on fly fishing for natives small streams such as preferred flies, wet, dry, streamer, leader length tippet length I would even greatly appreciate a link. I would appreciate anybody giving tips if anybody is curious
Hey man just wondering what kind of go pro your using?
GoPro hero 7 and GoPro hero 8
Awesome video...
Great video I'm a member of TU also and we aren't allowed to have a small board meeting! But we have to hang in there and if we are lucky enough to get out and fish we could just take a garbage bag with us and pick up a little trash as we go. That's what we are doing and believe it or not you can see a difference. Tight lines and please everyone be safe.
What kind of equipment are you using
You're going to have to be more specific...
Another great vid...not sure where you are but I see palm trees you think you can do another bass or snook video on the fly I had a lot of fun watching those ...something different too
Hi. I love your videos and or UA-cam vids are fire. Can I have the location of this river? Thanks.
Hope you guys get all those viewers to subscribe man; y’all deserve it and this channel is well worth hitting that subscribe button.
If there's one thing I like to see in a fly fishing video these days its actual fly fishing. Not lobbing jigs on a euro rod👍
Subbed after 2 videos bud, you put out good stuff!
Thank you so much for the support! It really does mean a lot.
I sub. Now please tell me witch lure is that or How to make that? Thanks
How long is your leader and what size is it for this type of streamer fishing?
Great videos! What state are you fishing in?
Nice snagged rainbow at 8:15 😂
Interesting stream. Where are you guys located?
Beautiful catching in that small but lively river. And great to see how you catch trout and with what. About the fly, purely out of curiosity, are you allowed to fish there with barbs? And is that common in the USA? Here in Europe that isn't prohibited on the more beautiful waters. Cheers
Barbless hooks are encouraged in fly fishing only waters here. When you get to larger River where Big wild trout thrive, Some fisherman prefer barbs to land the fish but still release it unharmed.
4k imagery?
Incredible video, with what length of rod and line number do you fish? Greetings from Spain !!!
The rod in this video was a 9 foot 7 wt rod. Glad you liked the video!
@@hardmanfishing thanks friend!!!
Solid Video. Guys!
Thank you Frankie!
i LOVE shallow streams for trout
Also, look forward to the day that Andrew's number of hook ups beat the brown trout :)
It may never happen... hahahahahah
Great video and channel. What leader and tippet are you using, it you can share it?
For streamers we usually just use 12-15 pound fluorocarbon for the leader. If you're using tippet use 1x or 0x
Good stuff guys🙂👍 FREAKIN GORGEOUS fish!😳 Some of em look like they could play football 😁
They could either play football or be used as a football, there were definitely some healthy fish! Thanks for watching :)
Good numbers day! All quality fish..
Yessir! Thanks for watching
Good fishing can’t control the weather
Bravo

LETS GO MOUNTAIN LIONS!
Hardman Fishing Adventures I know a lot of great people who’ve graduated from there. Also I use to work with the cheerleading coach so there’s that 🤣 Loving your channel.
@@aintgottime2bleed78 Yep I graduated from there as well as a lot of my friends. And that's awesome! Glad you like the channel.
Answered my question in the video..... just missed it the first time caught it the second time watching
Haha you're all good man!! Thanks for watching!
Are you using a heavy tippet in the murky water? You seem to be able to horse some nice sized fish against the current with no losses.
Beautiful fish! State?
We use 12-15 pound floro for the leader. If we do use tippet in murky water for big fish it would be like 1x or 0x
Hardman Fishing Adventures Makes sense. I do the same in warm temps, using heaviest tipper that wont spook. No pride in landing a fish that dies. Never understood that mentality in C & R.
Another solid video guys keep em
Coming........ Tight lines.........
Thanks!! Will do!
Do you think that grey brownish streamer is better or just like a black? If the water is pretty murky and maybe a little green?
We usually stick with dark colors in murky water and light colors in clear water
Thanks your THE BEST
Sweet vid! Those are some pretty browns.
Thank you!! Glad you liked the video
What size fly rod you using for small stream?
9 foot 7 wt
where is this? Palm trees and trout?? Good video!
HAHAHA its a magical place! Thanks for watching

Thank you so much for the sub!! Means a lot even if it was from months ago. Every one counts.
Love the video! Do you shoot on wide or linear on the GoPro?

MOUNTAIN LIONS!!
Looks like a great wee river 👌🏼
It is indeed a wee river! Thanks for watching
Nice trout bud
Thank you!
Love it when a trout jumps. They make it look easy and the fly fishing exciting at times. Great video from Cherokee NC.
I was supposed to come down that way earlier this month. Darn virus!
Thank you! There's nothing better than a trout going air born. It is always impressive.
@@hardmanfishing we will be glad when the virus gets gone. We don't have any here and don't want any. Our borders are closed here on the Reservation. Hope to see you on the river one day.
